Kristy:













Full length mirrors were her worst enemy. Mirrors were a window in which she was able to see all of her flaws laid out in front of her all at once. Each encounter drove her closer and closer to the edge of death.

Her parents began to worry that she was growing too thin. But that was only part of it. They didn’t know what lay deeper beneath the surface. Underneath all her black long sleeve shirts were cuts as deep as a canyon. It was all she could do to make herself feel something other than the numbness she felt every day of her life. It always made her feel better, and that was the scary part.

At dinner that night, her parents had a big announcement. “Our friends from college, Chris and Amy, are coming to visit! Isn’t that exciting?”

“Sure.” Kristy stated, pushing her food around on her plate with her fork.

“They’re bringing their son, Andy.” Kristy’s dad added. “You’ll have someone to talk to. Maybe even become friends with.”

“Great.” Kristy wasn’t exactly enthused.

Her parents looked at each other with worry. Their once cheerful, upbeat daughter had turned into a slave to the darkness.

“May I be excused now?” Kristy asked.

Her mother sighed. “I suppose…”

Kristy stood up and brought her plate over to the sink. After clearing away her dishes, she ran up to her room to be in solitude. She enjoyed the quiet and loneliness. Silence was truly her only friend.

From downstairs, Kristy heard the doorbell ring, but made no efforts to get up and greet their new company.

“Oh, Amy! It’s been so long!” She could hear her mother exclaim as she most likely pulled her old friend into a sweet embrace.

“Andy, you sure have gotten big, haven’t you?” Her father marveled. “I remember when you were about this big!”

Kristy could practically envision the entire scene going on downstairs right inside her mind. Despite the fact that Andy and Kristy were the same age, her father was still surprised at how old Andy had gotten. That was something she had never understood about adults. Even with kids the same age, they still think that other people’s children never age for some reason and get surprised when they have.

“Kristy!”

Shit.

“Come down and say hello, please!” Her mother called up the stairs.

Kristy debated it but eventually decided she would go downstairs and see everyone. The hinges on her bedroom door cried as she slowly pushed it open and slowly made her way down the hallway and to the top of the stairs.

“My, she is… something isn’t she?” Amy commented.

“Yes,” Kristy’s mother sighed. “We’re both so proud of her…” Her tone was laced with disappointed sarcasm.

Kristy made her way down the stairs. When she looked up behind her hair, she spotted Andy. He was so much different than she had expected. He had raven black hair, sharp blue eyes, and wore lots of black, just like her. She began to think that maybe he wasn’t so bad after all.

“Andy, this is Kristy. Kristy, this is Andy.” Chris, Andy’s dad, introduced the two.

She smiled at him, and he smiled back. It was the first time she had smiled in a long time.

After everyone had gone to sleep, Kristy slipped into the bathroom. Her razor glinted under the fluorescent bathroom light. She placed it on the shelf above the sink and knelt down over the toilet bowl, shoving her index and middle finger down her throat. Dinner had to come up. She wasn’t about to let the food sit in her stomach and make her fat.

Andy woke up and walked by the bathroom, trying to find the bathroom, and heard Kristy throwing up her insides into the toilet. He knocked hesitantly. “Kristy? Are you okay?”

Kristy lifted her head and wiped her mouth at the sound of Andy’s voice. “Y-Yeah. I’m fine. I think dinner might have made me a bit sick is all.”

Andy didn’t buy it. The tone of her voice gave away her lies instantly.

Kristy sat on the edge of the bathtub with the razor now in hand, hovering over her delicate skin already covered in scars. She dragged the razor across her skin and it dug deep into her flesh. She winced and cried out slightly in pain but the pain was just what she needed.

“Kristy, can I come in?” Andy asked.

She didn’t answer, but just kept cutting.

Andy took hold of the door knob and slowly turned it, opening the door and walking in. He looked over and saw Kristy holding her wrist as blood seeped through her fingers. The razor was on the floor, and bloodied.

“What did you do to yourself?!” He exclaimed, rushing over to her and taking off his shirt to wrap her blood soaked arm in.

“I guess I cut too deep.” She admitted hoarsely.

“The deeper you cut, the deeper I hurt.” Andy looked into her eyes that were now filled with tears and remorse.

Andy had been the first person to ever show her that he cared. That was what made all the difference in her life from then on out.

So, I started this thread on the forums and if you guys would check it out it would mean so much to me. It's a challenge contest thing. Read through the thread to get a better gist of it. But I spent like an hour and a half writing up the instructions and all that so if you guys could participate or get some friends to participate or just spread the word, it would mean a lot to me.
