Youth and Whiskey (for Valiii)
Julia Anne-Marie Smith “Jewel”:
Grocery shopping was definitely not Julia’s favorite thing to do. But, she had made a deal with her roommate. Every other grocery store trip, they would switch off. Of course, this time was her turn.
She strolled through the aisles, occasionally glancing at the list in her hand with all the items they needed. She looked up at the cans of Monster that her roommate practically inhaled every day. And naturally, they would be all the way on the very top shelf.
Julia rolled her eyes, trying to reach the top shelf with no luck. Suddenly, a large hand came out of nowhere and grabbed a can, handing it off to her. She looked over and saw a tall, lanky guy with short brownish-blonde hair and devilish blue eyes.
“Thanks.” She mumbled, taking the can from him and putting it in her cart.
He smiled. “No problem.”
She snuck a glance back up at him. He was gorgeous. “Would you mind… Um… Grabbing me, like, two more?” She asked, shyly.
The man reached back up and grabbed two more cans, putting them in her cart. “There you are.” He said. “You’re gorgeous, by the way.” He said as she began walking away.
“Oh, um, thank you.” She gave him a gracious smile before turning and walking away from him. Getting hit on at the grocery store was the oddest thing that had ever happened to her. She shook off the situation and continued grazing her way through each aisle, trying to find everything on the list.
She put the final item in her cart and headed over to check out. She hadn’t seen the man with the blue eyes at all in any other part of the store since her run in at the Monster can section of the soda aisle.
She scanned and bagged all her items herself. She hated going to the register and having to deal with the cashiers. She wasn’t much of a people person. She’d rather scan and bag everything herself.
As she pushed her cart through the automatic doors, she saw a group of guys around her age sitting outside the grocery store at a table. Among them was the man she ran into earlier.
“No, I don’t want to buy whatever you’re selling.” She muttered to herself as the front end of her cart passed through the second automatic door. She grabbed her phone out of her bag and pretended to be doing something so she wouldn’t have to interact with the guys outside. They all looked like trouble anyway. Some of them had black paint on their faces and they all wore black leather with glam metal hair.
“Hey, you! Gorgeous girl!” The man from earlier shouted at her. “Come check out our band!” He encouraged.
She looked over at him with a grimace. “I’m really in kind of a rush right now.”
“Oh, come on.” Another one with a cowboy hat, said. “Pretty girls get free admission to our next show.” He bribed. “And if you decide to show up, you could be more than just a pretty girl. You can be an official Purdy girl.”
She furrowed her eyebrows. He was a creep, that was for sure. “Shut up, Ashley.” The man with the blue eyes smacked him on the back of the head. “You’re sketching her out.”
She laughed at how they all interacted with one another. “I’m Andy. We met earlier.” He introduced himself. “This is my band. We’re called Black Veil Brides. That’s Ashley,” He pointed at Ashley sitting there rubbing the back of his head. “Jake, Jinxx, and CC” He motioned to the rest of them and each gave her a small wave. “We’re trying to make it big. We have a show tonight at Royale. You should come check us out.”
She shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“Be honest,” Ashley spoke up again. “What are you really doing tonight?”
Julia thought about it and realized her plans for that night were to go home and watch the newest episode of American Horror Story that she had missed a few days ago. Her night appeared to be very uneventful compared to what these five guys had planned for tonight.
“It’ll be fun.” Andy agreed. “Besides, it’s an age limited venue which means we won’t have any annoying teenage psychos. All we need is a little youth and whiskey.”
