Rebel Love Song
It’s been three days since I’ve had that dream. It’s also been three days since I felt that I loved him. We’re getting packed to head back to California. I can’t believe I’m gonna be living with my heroes.
“You almost ready?” Jinxx called.
“Yea, hang on” I reply.
I finish straightening my hair and I put on my makeup. I walk out the door to see Jinxx carrying my bag.
“I’m done” I say, reaching for my bag.
“I’ll carry it out to the car” he says.
We walk out to the car and he calls the rental place telling them that he’s headed for the airport and they can pick the car up from there.
“Is there anything left at your house that you need?” Jinxx asks.
“No, I’ve got what I need” I say, thinking of my mother’s necklace that I left at Annabelle’s.
“You sure?”
“Yea”
“We can go back over to your grandparents’ house or Annabelle’s to take one last look.” He offers.
“You don’t mind?” I ask him.
“Not at all”
“Well, I left my mother’s necklace at Annabelle’s” I say looking down.
“If you need me to, I’ll go in to get it.”
I look at him and he nods. We drive off to Annabelle’s house and park on the curb in front of it.
“Where’d you leave it at?” He asks.
“It’s either on the coffee table or on the desk in my room.” I reply.
“Alright, I’ll be back soon.
He gets out and I reach into my pocket to feel my razor blade. I really need to, but I can’t. I didn’t really promise I’d stop, but I don’t want to hurt him. Just then I get a text from Dylen.

-- How you feeling --
-- fine. And you --
-- fine. You wanna hang out today -- he asks
-- sorry I’m going to CA with Jinxx –
-- He your BF –
-- no but I really like him…--
-- then get with him! –
--I can’t. He probably doesn’t like me anyway –
-- It won’t hurt to ask –
-- yes it will he’ll leave me in Cincinnati if he doesn’t like like me too –
-- ask him! Pwease! –
I swear he acts more like a teenage girl than a teenage guy. Just then, Jinxx gets back in the car with my mother’s necklace.
-- hey I gotta go I might ask him – I say, ending the conversation,
“Who was that?” Jinxx asks
“It’s that boy, Dylen, from the funeral” I say.
“Oh, he seems like a nice guy”
Was that jealousy I heard?
“Yea, he is” I reply, looking at him for any signs.
He starts the car back up and we head towards the airport.
“Can we stop for some food before getting on the plane?” I ask. I really don’t want to eat airline food and I’m starving.
“Sure, what d’ya want?” He asks
“I don’t really care, I just want food”
“How about Burger King?”
“Sounds good”
We sit in silence the whole way to Burger King. Meanwhile, I’m enveloped in my thoughts.
Do I really like him? There’s no doubt about it and I’m pretty sure I love him. I can’t be for sure, though since I don’t know what love feels like. And even if I do love him, there’s no way he feels the same way. He probably doesn’t even have a crush on me.
“What do ya want” he says, chasing my thoughts off.
“Oh, uh, fried chicken wrap with no sauce” I reply.
“Anything to drink?”
“A small Dr. Pepper”
“We need two small Dr.Pepper’s and a crunchy chicken wrap with no sauce” He says into the speaker.
“That’ll be $3.84 at the first window.” The cashier says.
We pull up to the window and the guy inside the building looks at me.
“Your girlfriend’s pretty hot” he says to Jinxx, taking the money.
Jinxx kinda half nods so I won’t see it, but I do anyway. Did he just tell that cashier I was his girlfriend?
We pull up to the second window and the girl hands us our drinks first and then my food.
“What was that at the window?” I ask Jinxx, curious of what he’ll say.
“Do you want to be my girlfriend?” was his response.
I nod “Yes” I say, a little too excited.
He laughs as we pull into the drop off zone of the airport. This guy walks up in a rental place outfit and asks for the keys. Jinxx hands them to him and we walk into the airport. Our flight leaves in 30 minutes so we hurry through security and find our way to the plane.
Before we get on the plane, Jinxx hugs me.
“You have no idea how much courage asking you took.” He said with a little laugh.
We get on the plane to head to California.
