Fight for F.E.A.R.

The Mourner

Blairs POV
Ive been running in the sand for a day. I have no idea if I ran back the way Audrey and I came or if I'm running blindly toward something I don't know. Should I turn back? Is Audrey even alive? I don't even knowl I didn't even look back when that thing with the horned mask appeared. I'm a much faster runner than most. I have to do something, I have no water and I'm starting to really feel it. My mouth is like sand, and I can feel myself feeling the strain and tiredness. I've been walking two full days now I think. What the heck? Is this another mirage?

I could see this big...metal looking box. It looked like a child's toy box in the distance. I continued to walk toward it. Maybe I could find some resources there. I froze standing when I realized the large symbol on the outside, was the same thing on the end of the staff that shadow thing had been holding. The dust in front of me began swirling, oh shit!!! I turned and started running but a hand grabbed my arm. Frightened, a turn to look. I was instantly confused. A girl about Audreys height was holding my arm. She had long coal black hair and pale skin. I looked down, noticing she had that same fucking logo star charm as Audrey. What the hell was it?
"Who are you?" I said as I tried to jerk my arm away.
"Listen to me, my name is Eve. Please, stop trying to pull away. Do not go to the tower. You will die if you get any closer. Run. Run that way," she said pointing in the distance.
Who was this girl? Why is she dressed in all black? And what's up with the black paint on her arms and legs? She reaches up and pulls a black mask on her face, it has horns too, but nothing like the one I had seen yesterday. She disappeared into thin air, and I was left staring at the ground in disbelief. Am I going crazy? Is this from dehydration?

I signed and began to walk the way she pointed.

Audreys POV
I am beginning to feel my body again. I feel like I've been sleeping for a few hours. I begin to shift my body. I can still feel the pressure on my hand. Sounds are starting to be noticeable. This muffled voice can be heard. Jake? Is that Jinxx?
"My God, how the hell is she alive?!" Ashley says.
"I have no idea," Jake whispered. "I tried to give her peace, and she...I thought she was dying, her heart rate become impossibly slow, her breathing was almost unfeelable, and her pulse was so weak."
"She's a strong one for sure. I've seen grown men die from the same wound," a very deep voice says quietly.
"What do we do?" Jinxx asks.
"Well, I say just see how long she stays alive. I'd bet she could probably hear us now, her heartbeat is back, strong. And I'd say try to wake her up," an unknown voice says.
"Jake?" Jinxx asks.

I can feel who I assume is Jake sigh as he still has my hand clasped in his. Someone is shaking my shoudlers.
"No, CC don't do that, she's bandaged," Jake says. He says delicately, "Pleaase wake up, open your eyes."
I struggle to find my eyes. I try to open them. They are barely opened, but I can't see very well.
"She's with us still," Jinxx says.
Im searching, trying to adjust my eyes and see past the blurr. I blink a few times and slowly my vision begins to clear. I open my eyes completely and find myself staring at the top of a tent. It seems to be made of different patches of cloth. I look to the sides to find one..two...five men, all with black hair looking down at me. They all have varies types of war paint on their faces. One is smiling down at me. I roll my head sideways, he is the one holding my hand, this must be Jake. I look back to his face. He has very nice brown eyes and a careful smile. I let out a very quiet moan as I begin to feel the pain returning to my side. I move my unoccupied hand to my side over the banadgage, feeling my face wince.
"She's probably starting to feel it again," Jinxx says.
"Get her some water and food," the tallest one with the deep voice. I recognize his voice from somewhere. He was the one who carried me away from the shadow in the desert. Andy I think?
Jake looked across the room, "Maria, please get some water. Cleansed water and some warm water, separately. Some bread as well."
I looked over to see a woman, most likely of Latino descent, with her long grey and black hair, she was aged. "Yes, Mourner," she replied as she stepped out of the tent.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked quietly as he sat beside my bed, hand still holding mine.
"Uhh, my back is hurting, can I sit up?" I said quietly. My throat felt scratched and dry and raspy. Probably the sand.
"Of course," he said. He stood and wrapped one arm around my back and the other around my waist. I know he was trying to be gentle, but any strain to my side was like a thousand knives. I winced and pulled in a sharp breath. "Sorry."

Maria came hurrily into the room and rushed up to us. She placed a pillow behind my back and her and Jake rested me, sitting up, against the metal headboard. It took a few moments to settle. Jake glanced up at Maria and she rushed back across the room and returned with a small mug. "Here, this will probably help," Jake said as he passed me the mug. I held the mug in my hands and brought it to my lips. I took a sip of the water. It was heat cleansed water, still had a spot touch of the metallic taste. I took a careful sip, knowing if I drank too fast I'd be sick. I brought it back down to my waist and Jake took it from my hands. "Better?" he asks as he set it down.
"Yeah, thank you," my throat already felt better.
"So why don't you tell me your name?" Jake said as he returned to his seat next to me.
"Audrey, Audrey Nolan." I said, trying to smile.
"Audrey, that's a beautiful name. I'm Jake Pitts, but most people call me The Mourner."
"Mourner? Why is that?" I asked.
His face became very serious. "Well, here at the camp, when peace die or are close to death, they are brought to me. Do you know about the Legion?"
"What Legion? I know about the Order. The Freedom Soliders."
"You must be from Isring."
"Yes, my three older brothers are in the order and my youngest of my four brothers is in training." His face remained serious. "What?"
"Um...Aubrey, is that why you are here?"
"What are you talking about Jake?"
"Isring was attacked three nights ago. We got word from a messenger soldier that Shadows had raided the village, taking prisoners..." I felt my face drop. Where my brothers alive? Where they prisoners? Pain filled my chest.
"Three nights ago, I knew something was wrong...My brothers and father acted odd at dinner. And-and then my brother rushed back in with Blair, the village was going up in flames and we started running. This soldier appeared in front of us and attacked her and then I pulled out my knife and he disappeared when I held out that charm I got in the market. We ran and ran for a few days when another attacked us. I was too weak to fight. And, and this woman appeared and destroyed it." I said in a rush.
"Wait, whose Blair?" he asked.
"She's my best friend. We were running together but she ran off when the second shadow appeared. Is she here too?"
"Not that I know of. She may still be out in the desert. I'll speak to Andy, ur...the Phrophet. We will have someone look for her." Jake got up and went to the tent flap. "Maria is here if you need anything."
