Fight for F.E.A.R.

Desert Days

Blair's POV
I saw the soldier knock over Audrey, but I ran for my life. I didn't have any shoes on like she did, but I sprinted over the still burning sand. My lungs were burning and my veins pulsing with adrenaline. I looked back to see Audrey running as fast as possible to catch up to me. I slowed down my pace and she quickly caught up. We sprinted side by side for at least a mile. The flames of our burning village could be seen across the flat land behind us. Tears stung my eyes as we blindly ran over the baren landscape. The desert wind began to blow, blasting sand into my eyes. I squinted and held up an arm to block the gale. We finally slowed down to a walk, both exhausted. We had to at least ran two miles or more from our homes. I noticed Audrey had tears streaming down her face, I wasn't sure if it as the wind blowing sand in her eyes too or if she was actually crying. She wiped her eyes and began pulling struggled breaths into her lungs. She got out her water bottle from her hip and took a big sip.
"Shit, Audrey...I don't have water," I said as I felt my empty container slap again my hip as I walked.
"Here, we need to ration this out. It's all I have and I don't know how long it will be till we find water. Zion said once its almost miles to the next one," she said as she passed me the bottle.

I took a gulp, savoring the cool feeling in my throat. I capped the bottle and she strapped it back on her hip. We pulled our cloaks closed as the wind chills us. It gets very cold in the desert at night. I had on a pair of blue jean short shorts the semesters had cut for me and a black t shirt. I was grateful I had my thick cloak, but the wind still bit at my feet and face. We wandered for hours farther and farther away from our village till we could no longer see the flames. Audrey began to slow and finally dropping to her knees in the sand.
"Blair...I need to...sleep," she huffed as she layed in the sand.
"I'm freezing," I said as the wind blasted me again. I collapsed beside her in the sand and we wrapped our cloaks around each other to keep warm. I rested my head in my hands and closed my eyes, praying for my survival through the night.

Audreys POV
My nose and lungs burned as I started to wake up. I suddenly sneezed, feeling sand raweing my throat. I coughed a few times as I sat up, trying to rid my body of the sludge mix of sand and mucus. I spit a few times and shook Blair. The sun was starting to rise and scorpions would be waking up with the rising heat. She struggled as rolled over as she wiped the sand off her face.
"Ughh, Audrey, what are we going to do, we can't live out here. We need to go back." she moaned.
"We can't Blair. The soldiers have taken it over and they will kill everyone or take them prisoner." I said.
"I don't understand any of this. What does this F.E.A.R. thing want with us?" she asked as she sat up. She pulled out a can of peaches from her bag, and we shared them as our breakfast.
"It wants total control Blair. Their leader wants to oppress everyone. What you saw last night was a soldier of his."
"I know, my arm is sore as hell." she said, pulling back her cloak. A large wound adorned her upper bicep, dried blood ran down her arm and to her fingers. "Audrey, we need help," she said she looked into my eyes.
I sighed as i stood, "Come on, the faster we find water, the longer we live." I helped her up and we began walking again.

The sun began to rise and so did the temperature. I pulled a band off my wrist and tied my hair up with an intricate braid since my hair was so long and thick. I pulled up my cloak hood to shield my pale skin from the blistering heat. I knew Blairs feet must be in fire from walking in this sand, I'm glad I have my sandals on. As the sun hits mid sky, we are both panting for breath. I can see our village ahead. Wait how did we get back here? I start running, running as fast I can to our village, but it's like I'm not moving. I continue sprinting, but it vanishes before my eyes.
"Audrey! Audrey! Slow down!" Blair yells as she runs up to me. "What happened?"
"It was...I saw..."
"It was a mirage. The heat is messing with you." she whispered as she set a hand on my shoudler.

We continued to walk, I'm guessing at least another three miles before we stop and get a sip from the water bottle, and share a little sack of nut spread with bread I had. The protein helped us trudge along another two miles I'm guessing. I looked over the horizon. My feet ached so badly, I was drenched in sweat, and starving again. My lungs and face burned from the sand that randomly blew and the blistering sun. I saw a figure walking, their form being bent by the heat waves.
Another mirage. I continue to walk. The sand in front of me begins to blow in a circle. A solider apparates in front of us, a wicked smile visible under his mask. I run the other way, but my knees buckle under the strain if the last two days and I fall straight into the sand. I can't get up. Blair is sprinting away again. I lay with my stomach on the ground. I try to push myself back up, but I'm too weak. I roll over, the soldier towaring over me, his staff in his hands. The metal staff slams into my side and i shriek in pain, He raises it high above his head, bringing it down. I grip the charm for my life. A woman appears next the solider and rips the staff from his grip. She smashes it into his head and he disappears and so does she. My arm falls back to the sand that is clutching the black rosary with the star. I can feel blood oozing from my side, the pain unbearable. I close my eyes, them burning in the desert heat. I can feel my cloak has fallen away from my body and the sun heating my exposed legs and arms. I still have on my black denim short shorts and ripped purple tank top. The sun is blocked suddenly. Am I dead? I can feel a pair of arms picking me up. Death has embrace me. I guess Death is here to take me to hell. I could feel being lightly bounced as Death carried me away, and my cloak was removed. The sun beat down on my body and I could feel my life pouring from my side.

An eerie crackle came over, like a loud speaker turning on. I could hear a violin, like what the street merchant plays.
"We expect a battle for humanity is about to begin. Within each uprising, a vague sense of safety will ignite in you and unseen shadowey sliver of a doubt, toward those who protect and defend you. But the thoughts slip away and remain calm. Stay close to F.E.A.R. Only we can protect...."
