Broken Lungs

Nightmares, they were happening again. I had yet another one last night about when Alex kidnapped me. I haven't had nightmares since I was with Ashley. I guess I missed him more than I thought. I had woken up to the sound of two voices talking. I tiredly looked up to see Hannah taking my moms blood pressure and writing a few things down on her clipboard.

"Alright Monica, looks like everything's good, I'll be back in a minute with your medication and then I'll bring you some food" Hannah said smiling to her then looked over to me noticing I had awaken.

"Good morning Melissa, shall I fetch you some food as well?" she asked raising her eyebrows. She was telling me with her eyes that even if I said no, she still would for the sake of me being pregnant. I just shyly nodded giving a small smile, "if it's not too much trouble. Thank you, Hannah."

"Of course not, would you like anything special?" she asked me. I looked to my mom who smiled and nodded, "get anything you want honey" she said.

"I'll just have some breakfast, it honestly doesn't matter to me. Surprise me?" I said more of a question. Hannah nodded then walked out leaving the door open. I sleepily lied back down on the wall seat I had slept in, closing my eyes once again but finding it hard to fall back asleep. The images kept appearing in my head of those 2 months, over and over again.

'Don't do that to yourself Melissa, just think of something else. Think of something that'll make you happy, like the real Ashley. If you keep thinking about the terrible past then it will haunt you forever and you will truly stress yourself sick. That definitely won't be good for the baby. Which you still need to tell him about, trust me, he will still love you' that voice of Ashley spoke to me in my mind again, giving me hope.

'Don't lie to her like that, even I know he's going to run off, just like every other man. For fucks sake, he's a player. You REALLY think he's going to have a change of heart, especially for this shattered waste of oxygen?' the evil voice spoke back.

'Oh fuck off, will you? You've caused enough trouble, you vile snake. She is a wonderful human being who deserves another chance at true love. One that's finally real, that even she can feel. I know exactly what you are and I will not have you break her like that malevolent vermin did. The real Ashley actually loves her, unlike Alex who only wanted to take her happiness and ruin her life. Now leave her be, or I will tear you to shreds' Ashley's voice spat back at the evil one. I sighed while trying to relax but felt a strong headache starting to grow. I heard the sound of static and opened my eyes to seeing my mom turn the tv on with the remote. Just then I checked my phone to see the time read 10:30 and I stayed staring at my background picture of Ashley kissing my cheek for longer than I thought.

"Is that a picture of you two together?" I heard my mom ask as I started to feel my cheeks heating up.

"Uhm, yeah, he took them for us a few days ago" I said shyly looking over to see her smiling.

"Can I see?" She asked giving puppy dog eyes. I blushed and nodded handing her my phone. She smiled as she looked at it then unlocking my phone and chuckled as she saw the home screen background of me and him making silly faces.

"You two really like each other, don't you?" She asked handing me back my phone. I blushed and shrugged not really knowing what to say, "I guess so."

"Well, do you feel it in your heart?" She asked and I hesitantly nodded.

"Not like the puppy love you felt with Alex at first, I never saw the spark between you and him. But with Ashley, the twinkle I see in your eyes when he talks or even just looks at you. It's like looking up at a dark nights sky and seeing it filled with nothing but a sea of bright shining stars lighting the surroundings beautifully. You're finally in love and he feels the exact same way about you. I can see it in the way he looks at you, how he gazes straight into your eyes and smiles unknowingly even when you two don't say anything. That, my love, is true love" she said smiling whole heartedly.

"I-I guess you're right, momma. I mean, he's truly sweet to me, makes me feel like I matter and boy can he sure make my heart race. Whenever he smiles at me, I'm scared my heart's going to break through my rib cage because it ends up pounding so badly. He leaves me a bit lightheaded and has my stomach twisting in knots. I actually almost fainted the first time he kissed me on the cheek" I said chuckling as I felt the blush in my cheeks deepen in color.

"Feels pretty nice, doesn't it?" She asked as I nodded.

"More like amazing. I feel as if my heart is doing backflips everytime he calls me beautiful. Alex never called me anything nice like that. Only ever told me I was hot or sexy and it honestly made me feel uncomfortable. Ashley though, wants to always be there for me which is why he was so upset when he had to go back. I feel so safe in his arms when he holds me as we sleep" I said and paused as I felt my phone go off. I chuckled as I read the text, "speak of the angel" I said.

Ashley: GOOD MORNING MELLY :)
Me: Lol good morning Ashes (/^▽^)/
Ashley: Holy shit where'd you get that from? O:
Me: haha what? The emoticon? ﾟ.+:｡∩(・ω・)∩ﾟ.+:｡
Ashley: Haha yes, that's awesome
Me: Just google up japanese emoticons, ya goofball (ノ＞▽＜)ノ
Ashley: (⊙ ౪ ⊙) this is so fucking cool lol I miss you and your cute face Melly :c
Me: I miss you too Ashes (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ

I frowned sending the message. 'I just want you here with me again' I thought to myself as I pulled the blanket up to my chin feeling a chill. I heard my phone go off again seeing it was a picture from Ashley pouting his lip and making puppy dog eyes. It was hard to tell where he was because it looked like he took it at an angle where it only shown a brightly lit ceiling in the background. 'Maybe he's getting ready for another show' I thought before saving it and taking one of myself for him lying down and holding cake the cat.

Ashley: My heart can't take the cuteness! You're so beautiful mel (●♥∀♥)

I giggled and felt my cheeks growing warm. I then got another text from him saying he had to go for a while and will text me again later. I simply said okay, sent it and locked my phone. About 10 minutes later Hannah came back in with my moms medicine and food for the both of us. I set my plate on the small round table that sat at the foot of the wall seat.

"I'll be back momma" I said before walking into the restroom turning the light and vent on. I also turned on the sink so it was more noise to drown out the sound of my vomiting.

'God pregnancy sickness sucks' I thought to myself as I flushed the toilet and shortly went to the bathroom afterwards. After flushing again I went over to the small sink washing my hands then brushing my teeth. I turned the light off as I made my way out and back onto the seat grabbing my plate.

"You okay sweetheart? I thought I heard you throwing up in there" she said worriedly.

"Oh yeah, my stomach was just messing with me. I probably just need to eat is all. Don't worry momma" I said smiling and then started eating some of the eggs from my plate. She sighed and nodded deciding to leave it alone.

I had got up and got dressed into the purple and black skinnies, space cat tank top, stone plugs, moon & star ring, star necklace and hustler hoodie. Basically everything Ashley got/gave me. I decided to go barefoot since I'm staying here anyways. I don't want to leave the hospital after what happened yesterday. That and I'm scared that Alex might spot me. About a few minutes later of us lying down and watching movies on tv, the female officer came to the door and knocked.

"Sorry ladies, I don't mean to disturb, but there's a young man here to see you, miss" she said looking at me.

'Ashley?' I thought to myself looking at her confused.

"Uhm, did he say what his name was?" I asked her.

"He said his name was Daniel, he had dropped you off here yesterday with your friend Mason, I believe" she said. I was honestly a little bummed but sighed and smiled.

"Okay, I'll be there in a sec" I said and she nodded before walking back out.

"I'll be back momma. Do you want me to bring him in here?" I asked her and she nodded.

"I haven't seen my little toothpick in months" she said smiling making me chuckle. I walked along the cool floor to the door frame cautiously peeking out. I looked over to the nurses desk to see Hannah talking to Daniel. I breathed a sigh of relief and made my way over to them. Daniel pulled me into a tight hug and grasped my face with both hands.

"Jesus, mouse, are you alright? I'm so sorry for what happened yesterday. I should've known not to let mason give you something I didn't approve of or know what it was. Don't worry, when he sobered up I had a very long talk with him" he said trying to hide most of his anger.

"It's okay batman, come on. Momma wants to see you" I said grabbing him by his arm and leading him towards my moms room. When we walked in she grew the biggest smile on her face and held her arms out for him.

"Momma bear!" He yelled excitedly before running to her being careful with her shoulder when hugging her.

"I've missed you honey pie" she said rubbing his back.

"I missed you too momma" he said sitting up next to her.

"I'm sorry, all of this is my fault you guys. Mom being hurt, Daniel and the other guys not being able to see mom, us having to be protected. It's all because of me" I said frowning and looking down at my feet.

"No no mouse, you didn't know he was going to turn in that direction. He played you and took advantage of your kindness" daniel protested. After another 2 hours of talking and catching up, the female officer came by again knocking.

"Pardon me, ladies and gentleman. Melissa, there's an elderly woman here to see you" she said. I looked at her confused furrowing my brows together.

"Grandma, ya think?" I asked my mom but she simply shrugged and shook her head.

"Don't know honey, maybe. Go see" she said gesturing towards the door.

"Okay, I'll be back" I said before jogging out to the nurses desk seeing only Hannah and both officers as usual.

"Where-"

"Hey Melly" I snapped my head over to an empty room where Ashley stood in the doorway smiling widely with his bag. I felt my heart pounding and couldn't help but smile myself. I ran to him wrapping my arms around his neck and standing up on my tiptoes while I engulfed him in a tight long hug. I felt him chuckle as he wrapped his arms around my waist holding me tightly and burying his face in the side of my neck.

"I missed you sweetheart" he said pulling back slightly so he could look me in the eyes.

"I missed you too" I said smiling up at him. I smacked his chest, "and really, an elderly woman? You couldn't have come up with something better?" I said laughing causing him to grin.

"I am an elderly woman, you little rascal" he said in an old womans' voice and tickling me.

"Mel what are you doing out here barefoot?" Ashley asked in a parenting tone with his hands on his hips looking down at my feet. I shrugged and gave an innocent smile.

"There's no point in putting shoes on if I'm just staying in the same room all day" I said sticking my tongue out at him.

"I don't think so little miss" he said before picking me up and throwing me over his shoulder.

"Ashes put me down" I said through fits of laughter. He carried me to my moms room and put me down just outside the door. He smiled brushing a few strands of hair behind my ear and then gently grazed my cheek with his thumb. I couldn't help but feel like everything's going to turn out great in the end with Ashley in my life.

'Things will turn out great, my dear. He's never gonna want to let you go' the voiced Ashley in my head spoke to me. I heard the evil voice huff irritatingly in response but didn't say anything further. I took a hold of Ashleys hand and guided him into the room where momma and Daniel were watching tv. Daniels eyes grew wide as he saw Ashley.

"Look who came back" I said excitedly still holding his hand.

"Well hello again, Ashley. Are things sorted in Boston now?" She asked giving a kind smile.

"Yes ma'am, things are sailing smoothly now" he said nodding at my mom.

"That's great to hear sweetie" she said smiling again. I noticed her take a quick glance at our hands and then to me telling me with her eyes that she was right.

"And who's this?" Ashley asked nicely gesturing towards daniel.

"I-I-I'm D-Dan-" Daniel stuttered terribly in awe.

"He's Daniel, aka batman. My closest friend that Alex chased off, remember? I had told you guys about them" I said to Ashley elbowing him lightly in his side.

"Oh yeah, hi there, nice to meet you" he said leaning forward shaking daniel's hand as he still held on to mine with the other.

"It's great to meet you too, I've heard a lot about you" he said looking at me and grinning. I felt my cheeks starting to burn as I glared at him. Ashley looked down at me smiling and brushed the back of my hand with his thumb as he still held it.

'God damn you Daniel' I thought as the fire burning in my cheeks grew hotter.

So here it is my little wonderful babies! An early christmas update, mostly because I'm going to be with family tomorrow and I promised @heavenandhell I was going to post this new chapter like 2 days ago :c HERE YOU GO MY LOVE!

I'm thinking of putting where she tells him about the baby in the next chapter. So how do you guys think Ashley will react when she does? Will he have nervous second thoughts? Or will he still love her and want to be with her always?
Let me know what you guys think of this chapter. Personally, I feel it's not the best because I had writers block. But I hope it's still not too much of a disappointment ;-;
