The Sound Of My Heart Breaking

Elizabeth stiffened and cringed in pain when my hand found the top of her thigh. “Babe, what’s wrong?” I asked worriedly. I quickly replaced my hand on her shoulder as my concern grew. She stayed silent. “Elizabeth, please tell me what’s wrong. I want to help.”
I had a growing suspicion of what had happened, but I didn’t want to believe it. Elizabeth’s straight face made me break. I couldn’t stand to know that she would feel so worthless to do this. I could feel myself start to tear up. I kissed her forehead as I whispered to her, “Please, tell me I’m wrong. Tell me it’s not what I think. Elizabeth, please.”
I kept losing it, and pleading with her to tell me otherwise. I could tell that she was now crying, and everything in my being was pained. “I’m sorry, Andy. I’m so sorry,” she managed out between tears.
My whole body shook with sadness. “Please don’t ever do this to yourself. Elizabeth, I love you too much.”
She quickly wiped her face and got out from under me. She stood up. “You don’t mean that,” she said quickly as she looked down at her bare feet.
You could hear my heartbreaking from two towns over.
“No, Liza, I mean it! I mean it more than I can every say,” I replied desperately. I was surprised by my own love for her. I knew nothing about her, not even her last name, but I knew I loved her.
I followed her around the room, and stopped a few steps behind her when she paused to pack her bag. She packed quickly, not caring if everything fit. My desperate calls for her to stop grew louder, wilder, and became more often. “Andy, it was great. It really was, but I, I have to go,” she told me as she headed towards the door.
I cried out for her to stop, but she walked out. I fell to the ground. She was nothing, just a girl, there will be hundreds of her. I kept trying to convince myself that she meant nothing. The guys heard me, and CC ended up being the first one at my door. “Dude, what was that?” He asked quickly.
I tried to cool myself down before responding, “It, um, it was nothing.”
CC was about to retort something about my lying skills, when a phone buzzed on the table. I checked my pockets and found my phone placed in my right one. I looked up and it all clicked. She forgot her phone when she was packing. Elizabeth left the only thing that could help me. I picked it up and saw that it was her mom calling. I rapidly pressed ignore and called her friend, Sarah.
“Hey, what’s up Eliz-“
“Sarah, it’s Andy. I need your help,” I said hopelessly.
“Whoa, wait. What’s wrong? Why are you calling me with Elizabeth’s phone?” She asked. I couldn’t tell if she was more confused, or concerned.
“She left it with me when she left me. You know her best, tell me where she would go if she were upset,” I commanded.
There was a pause. “Oh shit. Well, how upset was she? Was she like, death in the family upset, or like, missing presale of tickets upset?”
I couldn’t describe it, I was death in the family upset, but what if she wasn’t? “I don’t know,” I said without thinking.
“Shit. Find her, before she does something stupid.” I knew exactly what she meant in the back of my mind, but I was too scared to think about it. When she had noticed that I hadn’t hung up she quickly started barking at me, “Hurry up! Go find her!”
I wasn’t sure how long it had been since she left, but I decided to check the parking lot first. I looked at every car, and after 30 minutes of searching, what I found hurt more than any of the past discussion. I found Elizabeth sobbing in the drivers seat of her car. I quickly called her friend back and told her I had found Liza.
I saw that the passenger side door was unlocked, so I got in the car. “I’m sorry, Liza. I’m so sorry,” I told her quietly.
“I couldn’t leave. I couldn’t do it,” she sobbed out to me.
I just nodded and held Eliza in a tight embrace. It was an awkward position, but neither of us cared. After about half an hour I got out of the car, and went around to her side. I opened the door and knelt down next to her, “Liza, I love you, you know that, right?”
She slowly nodded, almost like a little kid. I took her hands and guided her out of the car. Once we had made our way back to the room all the guys were there. “Hey, Andy we-“ CC began to say something until he saw my arm wrapped around Liza’s waist.
“Oh, um, it’s all good, CC,” I replied awkwardly.
There were a few silent minutes before everyone began to recognize her. “Hey, you were the one that stood in the corner, right? He wouldn’t stop talking about you after he saw you. You were, as I quote, ‘the shinning epitome of rock and roll’” Ashley said with his usual stupid grin on his face.
I looked over and saw that Liza was giggling. I turned a light pink as she said, “Oh, the shinning epitome, huh?” She smirked and kissed me passionately. Everyone started to cheer and whoop loudly. We both blushed and she pulled away from me slightly.
“So, when will we get to know more about Little Miss Rock and Roll?” CC asked jokingly.
That was a good question, CC. When will I get to know more about her?
