Bullets Hurt Less Than Love

Chapter 4

Harley explained everything she needed to. What they did, how they did it, when they did it. But never heard a why. I zoned out most of her speech.
“Andrew, I will let you go for today. Think about it, okay love?” She smiled. She walked towards me and sat on my lap, wrapping her arm around my neck.
“Don’t think about it too much though.” She giggled, playing with my hair. I looked at her angrily. She grabbed my chin, almost digging her nails on my cheek.
“Please.” She said.
“I won’t promise anything.”
“Boys, can Andrew and I get some alone time?” She looked at CC, Dylan, Oscar, and the other guy. They all nodded and walked out the building. She smirked looking at me.
“Andy, don’t worry about a thing. I’ll make sure your pretty boy image stays as is.”
“Your name is Harley because you’re as crazy as her, huh?”
“Took you long enough to figure it out.” She giggled. I looked at her sternly.
“I’ll let you go for today. Chris will take you, but please think about it.” She smiled softly.
“What if I decide not to join?”
“Well, Chris and I leave. Chris will quit your band, and trust me. The fans wouldn’t like that whatsoever.” She smiled.
“I’ll think about it.”
“Good.” She said. She grabbed my chin with her thumb and index and lifted my face.
“Don't think too hard about darling.” She smirked and slowly pushed her lips against mine. I didn't know what to do, either push away or stay as is. But I kissed back. The kiss was slow, and sensual. She bit my lip and giggled when I groaned.
“Go with Chris now.” I sighed. Why did that feel so right.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I looked out at the rainy night. Today was an eventful day. I sighed as CC sat down with our food.
After Harley let us go, CC thought food would let me process everything I just learned.
“Can you believe the prices in this place? It's crazy!” He chuckled. I looked at him.
“How can you be so calm about this?” He looked up from his food.
“Calm about what exactly?”
“About Harley! About her and her career and how her eyes are set to kill!”
“Okay. Can you first lower your voice?” He said, looking around. I did too, seeing that many people were looking at us. I sat down and waited for CC to open his mouth.
“Harley isn't as bad as you may think-”
“She isn't bad? She held a gun to my head!” I whispered.
“She needs to know your loyalty! Look- can you just let me explain?”
“Fine.”
“She wasn't like this at some point in her life. But it's actually great to do business with her. Know about Cooper enterprises?” He asked. I nodded.
“The owner is famous, isn't he?”
“Exactly. And that would've never happened if Harley wasn't part of his life. Harley and him did business not so long ago. But she does get most of his winnings, making her richer than him.”
“So she's a businesswoman?”
“Yes.”
“What about the gun?” I asked.
“That's her treasure. She doesn't kill for fun. She kills for revenge.” he said as he took a drink of his beer.
“What do you mean?” I asked, not bothering to touch my food.
“Do you remember the Cartelli family massacre?” He asked. I nodded. The family was found dead in their backyard after hosting a party.
“Well, Harley had everything to do with it.” He said as he cut his steak in small pieces.
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” he took a small piece. “when she was younger, the oldest son of the Cartelli’s wanted her hand in marriage. Her parents refused, of course. As a result, the Cartelli's sent people to murder her parents, her two brothers and sister. The guy convinced her that it wasn't them, and told her to marry him in order to be safe. She agreed, but it wasn't long before she found out what was going to happen.” I looked at CC.
“Before her wedding, she started her own business. She hired the most fierce and the most danger people.”
“When did she find you?”
“Let me finish. She invited everyone in her organization, telling her future husband they were her relatives from far away. Harley walked in there, dressed in a beautiful white dress. She took out her father’s gun, and shot the man she was to marry. After that, it was a massacre. Her men killed them all, showering her in blood.”
“How is she still free?” I asked.
“Well, she left no proof. She ran away and changed her name, her identity and everything. Plus, one of her workers pleaded guilty himself.” He said as he ate a fry.
“He sacrificed his freedom for her?!”
He nodded.
“But why?” I couldn’t believe it.
“Well, when you work for a person that is beautiful and crazy like Harley, your life becomes meaningless.”
“Have you done something like that?”
“No. She always had something special for me. Or at least I think so.”
“How so?”
“Well, she was the one who told me to consider this band in the first place. She found me on the streets. I was alone, addicted and dirty.” He said. “She brought me to her home. Gave me food, clothes, a place to sleep. She kept her older brother's drum set. I started playing and she heard me. I thought she was angry, but she suggested me to join the band.” He shrugged. “I didn't see why not. That's when I came to you.” I remember when he came in. He came with someone else, but I didn't see that person after his audition.
“You came in with someone, the day you auditioned. Was that Harley?” I asked. He chuckled and nodded.
“That was her.”
“Why did she disappear afterwards? Why is she popping out now?”
“Well, she had already done her job with me. So she went away for a few years. I don't know why she came back. She had so many men with her. But it seems like she only came back with Dylan, Jonah and Oscar. They're the toughest guys. I still wonder what happened with the others.” He sighed.
“Her men die?”
“Well, some kill people. And others are bait. Depends on how strong you are. And I think she looks at you as a strong one.”
I sighed. What the hell am I getting myself into.
