“No! I’m not going!” I protested to my mother. I’d been home about a week and now she was telling me that she was sending me away to live with my father. Is she crazy?! I hate him with a fiery passion. “It’s for the best, sweetheart.” She tried to reason with me. I shook my head. “No.” My mother rubbed her temple as she sighed. “You don’t have a choice.” She said sharply. “Go pack your belongings. Your father will be here in a couple of hours.” I groaned and stormed upstairs, slamming my door. I can’t believe she’d do this. She reckons I’m going to be safer to live with him than I am here. Yet, my father could be a mass murderer for all I know. Eventually, I began packing everything.

A few hours felt like a few minutes and it was way too quick for my liking. “I’m going to miss you.” I cry into my mother’s chest as she cradled me, equally crying. She kissed my head. “You can always visit me and we can talk on the phone or Skype.” I didn’t respond. It wasn’t going to be the same. A knock at the door, startled me making me jump. I had hoped this was a bad dream but that knock made this nightmare a reality. Reluctantly, I pulled away and opened the door. “Hello, Mariah.” A man I didn’t recognise but knew was my father spoke. I didn’t say a word as I grabbed my bags and walked out. He sighed, spoke briefly to my mother before walking out and letting me put my bags in the trunk. For a brief moment, I glance back at my home. I look down before I start crying again and climb in the car. This was it. The start of my new life. With my father...
