I am a Good Girl

Shower

Hayden's POV

"Come on, Grandpa! I ain't got all day!" I called to Ashley as he lagged behind me.
"Not all of us have long, creepy spider legs!" He called back.
I was ever so slightly taller than him and he hated it.
"Doesn't it make you wanna work harder?" I laughed.
We were hiking through the Hollywood Hills, enjoying the weather before it got too hot.
I stopped at one of the lookouts and waited for Ashley to catch up. His breath was raggered as he held his hands on his hips as tried to trek up the last bit of the climb.
I stood by him, but couldn’t help but giggle.
“Oh shut up! I don’t do cardio!” He spluttered between breaths.
“Whatever you say” I said patting him on the back and started to walk back down.
“Hey! Wait! Can’t I catch my breath first?!” He yelled after me.
“You’re only meant to take short breaks to keep the heart rate up! Don’t worry, it’s all downhill here from here!” I chuckled to myself.
Ashley eventually caught up to me, his breath smooth and a coy look on his face.
“You know you turn me on when you boss me around like that” his voice low as he placed his hand on the side of my hip.
“And you know you sound like a pig when you do that to me” I whined, pushing his hand off me.
“What?” Annoyance in his voice.
“You know what” I shot. “I’m dating one of your best friends. Have some respect” I shot, and continued walking down the track.
“Speak for yourself. You haven’t told him, have you?” He quickly caught up.
“I don’t see the point in telling him” I shrugged, trying to ease the conversation.
“You wanna seem all pure and innocent? That wasn’t the vibe I got when we met” he winked.
“But you’re not the relationship type, and when I met you, I didn’t want a relationship. I wanted a fuck” I chuckled.
Ashley smirked, amused by my comment, but then his faced turned serious.
“Hey, umm, CC was telling me about your family... He said things were tense.”
“Yeah, we don’t really see eye to eye anymore” I said, not wanting to go into it.
“Why didn’t you tell me about your family?” He pried.
I pretended to mull it over in my head, but it had nothing to do with not telling Ashley. “Cause they aren’t worth my time” I stated firmly. “They don’t care about me. I’m the ‘pariah’. I don’t doubt that they love me, cause they do, but... they just don’t care” I shrugged, unsure of how to explain it.
“Don’t say that...” Ashley said softly, his eyes full of sympathy.
“You sound like my mother. Can we not talk about this? Just wasting our breath” I shrugged and started to jog.
Ashley started to jog behind me. I listened to the sound of his sneakers hitting the gravel, hearing them get closer.
I began to speed up, wanting to beat him back to the car. “You know I’m faster than you” I called to him.
“Not if I actually try!” He yelled back, his voice already sounding tired.
I had the car park insight and picked up to a sprint, pulling further in front of Ashley.
As the gravel turned to asphalt I slowed down to catch my breath. I turned around and saw Ashley forty feet behind, still manoeuvring the bigger rocks.
“Come on loser, I’ll buy you dinner.”

As we reached my apartment door, I immediately heard Duke start growling.
“Oh Duke, stop it. You really don’t like him, do you?” I cooed to Duke, picking him up and cradling him to my chest.
“Does he like CC?” Ashley asked, throwing his backpack on the couch.
“Duke loves CC. I can’t pin it. It’s not like you have cats or anything” I shrugged, putting him put near his bowl and topping up his dry food.
“Do you want me to shower first?” Ashley asked.
“Umm, yeah, you go. I gotta pick something out to wear.”
Ashley nodded and picked up his backpack, walking over to the main bathroom.
I sighed and strolled into my bedroom to start deciding.
I pawed through my closet about ten times before landing on heavily ripped blue jeans and a white pullover.
I laid them out on the bed then stripped to take my shower.
“Hayden! Do you have any fresh towels?” I heard Ashley call.
Panicked, I jumped into my still cold shower, in case he barged into my room.
“Hayden?” His voice now inside my bedroom.
“I’m in the shower Ash! Can you give me like ten minutes?!” I called.
Next thing I knew, the door to my ensuite opened and Ashley stood behind the glass, loosely holding a towel around his hips.
“Do you mind?!” I shrieked, trying to cover myself.
“I’ve seen it all before” he shrugged, dropping the towel and opening the shower door.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” I screamed in his face.
“I’m trying to ask you where the hell the clean towels are” he asked casually.
“THERE IS ONE RIGHT BEHIND YOU! TAKE IT!” I yelled, my voice growing high in pitch.
Ashley peered behind and went to grab my fluffy creamed coloured towel off the rack.
“You seriously couldn’t wait?” I whined, still cowering in the corner.
“No. I was cold” he said, wrapping it around his taught body.
“Okay, can you please get out now?” I tried to say calmly.
Ashley rolled his eyes, but left my ensuite.
I didn’t relax until I heard my bedroom door close. I sighed and quickly washed myself so I could face Ashley. He was totally out of line, coming into my bedroom, while I was showering! Who does that? He understands that I’m dating someone... right?
I let myself think different reasons as to why Ashley was behaving the way he was as I got dressed.
I eventually emerged from my room, to see Ashley lazing on my couch, waiting for me.
“Can we talk?” I asked, sitting on the opposite couch.
“Yeah... What’s up?” He said, sitting up.
“What was that in there? Like, you know my place... What the hell?” I said, unsure of how to explain it.
“I don’t know... You’re just so fucking sexy and I have to say I miss being with you. Even just in general. You’re always working or with CC.”
I was taken aback. “Do I hear some jealousy?” I said playfully.
“I’m not jealous. I just miss you. It’s like the whole... you don’t know what you had till it’s gone... thing...” he shrugged.
“Well I hate to tell you Ashley, but I love CC. And to be perfectly honest, I did like you, but you were never interested in anything other than fucking me. You had your chance” I explained.
“CC’s not right for you though! And you know it” his tone becoming frustrated as he came over to my couch. He plopped down next to me, laying back, but keeping his eyes on me.
“In what world is CC not right for me?!” Anger starting to boil inside me.
“You’re too much like me” he said quickly, then in the rushed moment, he leaned in, grabbed my jaw and kissed me.
