A Bounty Less Love

Chapter one

“Andy?” I called out. I had a worn blanket wrapped around my shoulders as I leaned against the doorway to our bedroom. The only response I got was silence. I wrapped the blanket tighter around me and stepped out into the hall. My bare feet hit the cool hardwood floors causing me to shiver.
“Damn this shitty ass house.” I mumbled as I made my way to the kitchen. I scanned the fridge before finding what I was looking for. I grabbed the note and looked at it. ‘Good morning Beautiful. Sorry I left without saying goodbye. Ash and I are going to go job hunting today. I love you. I hope you have a good day at work. See you tonight love.’
I rolled my eyes at the mention of Ashley’s name. I knew that whenever Ashley was involved, nothing good would come of it. Ashley and Andrew were a packaged deal I learned. I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table thinking about the first time I meet Ashley.
Andy and I hadn’t been official yet. It had been about three months since we met.

Flashback
The sudden loud sound of my phone going off jolted me awake. I looked at the time. Four am. Who the hell calls at four in the fucking morning? I thought before answering the call.
“Hello?” I mumbled, forcing myself to sit up. There was shuffling on the other end then snickering. I rolled my eyes. “Hello?” I said a little louder.
“Um..yea. Baby it’s Andy.” I shivered at the sound of his deep voice. “I need a favor of you.” I squinted into the darkness.
“What kind of favor? And why didn’t you use your phone?” I asked.
I could hear more shuffling and a muffled voice call, “One minute.”
I was even more confused. “Baby, I need you to come pick me and my buddy up from the holding cell.” My eyes widened.
“Andy, What the hell did you do?”I hissed.
“Just come.” He said. I heard a click then the line went dead.
I quickly crawled out of bed, grabbing the leather jacket Andy had given me. I smiled at the memory, it felt like that had been years ago. I crept down the stairs and snagged the keys to my mom’s car before heading out the door.
About forty minutes later, I was standing in front of a desk signing papers. I looked up and saw a policeman guiding Andy in as well as a man with dark brown eyes and long black hair. I raised my eyebrow at the two.
As soon as Andy’s handcuffs were off, he had his arms wrapped around me.
“Hi princess.” He said before kissing my neck. I rolled my eyes and shrugged him off. I grabbed him by the hand and drug him out of the police station. I could hear the heavy thud of his friend’s boots against the floor as he followed up out.
“What the hell did you do?” I hissed at him. The man chuckled.
“Tell your bitch to calm her shit.” The man said. I gritted my teeth and turned to glared at him.
The man chuckled and leaned against mom’s car. Andy wrapped his arm around my waist.
“I know that you’ve done alot for me and Ashley already, but could you give us a ride home.” I turned and looked at Andy. He had to be kidding. “Please. I promise I’ll tell you what happened along the way.”
I sighed and gestured to the car. The man, I assumed to be Ashley, climbed in the back seat. I walked around the car, slamming the door hard after I got in. Andy began his long ramble which basically was, Ashley had talked Andy into trying to steal a carton of cigarettes. The boys got of with a warning though. I rolled my eyes for what felt like the millionth time that night. Andy kissed me goodnight, and I felt a little bit better about the situation...until I got home.
My parents had been waiting up for me and I got the ass-chewing of a lifetime.
End of Flashback
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. It wasn’t the last time that I had to bust Andy and Ash from a holding cell. About three months after that, I had to use some of my college money to help bail the two out of jail. Andy promised he’d pay me back, but I knew right then and there that I wouldn’t see a penny of that money. I wasn’t upset though.
Over the last few years, I’ve been putting any spare money and tips that I made into a ‘Andy’s going to need bail money’ fund. Of course, I had to keep that hidden from the man. He would be outraged if he knew.
I checked the time on the clock that hung on the far wall. Sliding off the chair, I stretched. I had to start getting around for work. No time to sit and remember the good days. I chuckled at the thought. In the beginning I had been the downer of the group, always trying to keep Andy in line. As time marched on, I found myself joining in on the boys crazy nights. Stealing, smoking, drinking, hell we even broke and entered into a convenience store once. I grabbed my uniform from off the kitchen table and headed to the bathroom.
I smiled at the memory of Andy’s lips on my neck as he whispered that I was his good luck charm. And as crazy as it sounded, it was true. Not once had Andy ever been caught when I was with him. Which is probably why he and Ash dragged me along on more and more of their schemes.
The two had straightened up a lot, or at least Andy had. I buttoned up my green vest and looked at myself in the mirror. I wore a black skirt with a white shirt tucked into it. My long hair was put into a messy bun on my head. I looked down at my old black trade-safe shoes. They were starting to fall apart and I knew I’d have to give in eventually and buy a new pair.
I pursed my lips. Could I really afford it right now? Andy and I were barely making enough to feed ourselves. We lived in a shitty rundown house that had one bedroom, one bathroom, a hallway, and one big room that served as our kitchen, living room, and dinning room.
The carpets were stained and the hardwood floor was rotting in places. Paint peeled off the walls and the heating and air conditioning never worked.
I shrugged as I stepped out the front door and pulled it shut tight behind me. Andy and I had each other though. And for now, that was enough.

Notes

The chapter is kind of short. I'm working on the next one now, and it'll be longer.
