Soaring Bird

Laughter filled the studio as the band sat around coming up with song ideas. They had been an "official" band for a month, and every day after school Chantel and Allen came to the studio to work with Maddox who was actually twenty years old and Rex who was, like Chantel had thought was twenty one. They were a bit surprised that they were seniors in high school, but Rex hasn't admitted it out loud. He actually hasn't said a word to any of them, he wasn't trying to be rude, but... Anyway, thanks to the help of Allen and Maddox, and a little from Rex, they had finished music for the three original songs Chantel had written before she met them. Now they had three other songs done and were working on their seventh. They had Freak Like Me, The Arsonist, and Do Your Worst. Do Your Worst was actually written with Maddox's help it was about an ex he had. They were stuck for ideas right now and so they were just goofing off and practice the songs they already had. A knock on the door made them stop and when the door opened Chantel felt her heart hit the floor. In walked Eric and Amy, she had knew Eric was coming, but Amy was a surprise.
"Hi Chantel, it's good to see you."
"What are you doing here?" Chantel and Allen both ask
Rex and Maddox stare at the girl and back at their band mates, wondering what was going on.
"Eric mentioned he was coming here and I tagged along."
That earned a death look from Allen to his boyfriend.
"Well you can leave. I don't want you here." Chantel says looking at the ground
"Chantel, baby please, I miss you."
"I will talk to you when I am ready."
"When? Graduation is next week!"
"HEY!"
Everyone turns to Rex, who has finally spoken after a month of silence
"She said she will talk to you when she is ready, now go!"
"Excuse me, but I am a lady and I will not let you talk to me like this!"
"Lady my ass." Allen says under his breath
"Amy just go," Eric says
"Whatever, you can't ignore me forever."
With that Amy stomps out of the work space and Rex does something nobody expects, he grabs the empty seat next to Chantel. Everyone is shocked and just stares at him, but what he does next shocks them even more.
"Gary, I needed an out and music was it, and yes."
"What?" Allen asks
Chantel remembers exactly what he just answered and he heart beats faster at the yes...
"Why yes?" she asks shyly
"Yes what?"
"I'm shocked you don't remember," Rex starts as he addresses Allen, "you are the one that asked the questions. I am from Gary Indiana. I joined this band because I love music and it has always been an out for me. Yes I have a felony, but I got it when I was twelve so it was dropped when I was eighteen,"
"To answer you Chantel," he continued, "I got it because... well like I mentioned, music was my out, and by that I mean, from my life. It wasn't great, shit it wasn't even decent. I don't want to get into details, but, I may have gotten a assault and battery charge."
The room was silent. But Chantel did the only thing she knew felt right, and that was to place her hand on top of his and nod her head, letting him know it was okay...

Also note, I tried to go back and edit it, but it wouldn't let me. Maddox plays drums and Rex plays bass. Sorry guys.
