“Happy Birthday dear Cee Cee.” She sang. I was grinning from ear to ear. “Happy Birthday to you.”

I wasn’t staring at the flame illuminating the candles on my cake; I was captivated by the way her face looked in the subtle glow of the candlelight. I was admiring the way she was looking at me, the way the corners of her mouth tightened as she nervously sang Happy Birthday to me, as though she were afraid she’d sing off-key and make the occasion any less special. She was perfect for me, and I knew it in that moment.

“Make a wish!” She said as my eyes were scanning hers, searching for the way she felt about me, wondering if I needed to tell her how I felt or if she just knew.

I didn’t need to make a wish; every day that I woke up next to her, every birthday cake candlelit moment I got to admire her beauty was all I’d ever need. If I could wish for anything it would be to make these moments last forever; to take any of them and live in them, without ever having to worry about arguing or being apart when I was on tour. I was staring out an airplane window gracing my index finger gently across my smile, reminiscing about our time together when she texted two words….it’s over.

To take my mind off of things ending abruptly with the love of my life, Ashley decided we’d jet set to Vegas for a weekend of debauchery.
