Love Isn't Always Fair

Chapter 6

I sighed as I leaned against the counter at work. I hated Mondays. It was near impossible to drag myself out of bed and force myself to go to work after being able to be around my kids. I ran a hand through my hair then flicked the light on, signaling my lane was open. I forced a smile on my face as a young couple made their way to me, bickering about something. Oh this was going to be a wonderful day, and to think I have to leave straight from here and head to job number two after this.
My day was filled with hateful women, stingy old men, children running around causing chaos, and couples fighting. I looked at the clock and sighed. I needed to be clocked out soon so I could make it to Target on time. Just as I went to turn off my light tall man wandered up my alise. ‘Last one.’ I thought to myself as I flicked off the light.
“I’m sorry are you leaving?” I pursed my lips as I stared at the man. His voice was really familiar but I couldn’t place it. He had a hood pulled up, covering his face.
“I think I can help you out before I go.” I said giving the man a wink. The man simply nodded and began putting his items onto the conveyer belt. I could feel the man’s eyes on me, watching me. I allowed myself to look up at him as I scanned an item.
“Hey Alixia! Don’t you need to leave?” A voice came from behind me. The customer took sharp breath at the mention of my name. It was my coworker Austin. I shook my head saying, “I can finish him up. But if you’d like to take over after him that would be great.”
“Sure thing Alix. How are Drake and Cat?” He asked. I rolled my eyes.
“Cat has the biggest attitude problem, but can you blame her? As for Drake, he’s doing pretty great. He’s got an obsession with Black Veil Brides right now.” I said. Austin laughed.
“Black Veil Brides? Is that some kind of clothing line?” I snorted.
“Austin we have to fix your taste in music. It’s a band, a really good one at that.” I answered.
“It is a pretty decent band isn’t?” My customer asked, drawing my attention back to him. My mouth dropped. Standing before me was none other than the devil himself, Andy Biersack. I looked from Austin to Andy the back to Austin. I quickly scanned the last item and shoved it into the bag.
“How have you been?” Andy asked. I could feel Austin staring at us in confusion, not sure what he missed.
“Fine.” I answered bluntly. Andy shuffled from foot to foot.
“I thought you left town.” He said. I rolled my eyes.
“Nope.” I said, popping the p. “Been staying in an apartment. Raising my kids.” I emphasized on the word my, making sure he knew he had no claim to them. “I saw you got engaged.” I commented as Andy swiped his card. His face turned red and he looked at the ground.
“I hope you two are very happy together.” I said, my voice dripping with anger. I whirled on my heels and stormed off.
“Hey, Alix wait!” Suddenly I felt Andy’s arm on my arm. I took a deep breath trying to calm myself. I did not want to start a scene right here so I turned to face Andy.
“Look, I’m going to be late for my second job.” I said calmly. Andrew let my arm drop and he lowered his head.
“What time do you get off your second job?” He asked.
“Ten.” Why the fuck did I just tell him that? I am pathetic.
“Will you please meet me when you get off?” He asked. Their was a sound of desperation in his voice when he spoke. I sighed.
“Fine.” I said. I handed him my phone. “Put your number in. I’ll message you when I get off.” Andy smiled. Why was I doing this? How dumb am I? Andy handed me back my phone.
“See you tonight.”
----------------------time skip----------------------------------
What am I doing here? I thought to myself as I stared up at the restaurant. I felt like this was some sick joke on Andy’s part. Not only did he pick a nice restaurant, which had required me to go home and shower and try to look decent, but he had picked the restaurant we ate at the day of our wedding.
I flipped down my viser, checking my makeup before stepping out of the car. I gently pulled on the bottom of the back dress I was wearing then began to make my way into the restaurant. Soft piano music greeted my ears as my eyes scanned the lobby. A hosties stood t a podium with a smile on her face.
“How many?” She asked as she flicked the ends of her pale blonde hair over her shoulder.
“I..um..I’m suppose to be meeting someone here. Last name Biersack?” I said. The girl glared at me for a second then returned to her smile.
“Well, aren’t you a lucky girl. Mr. Biersack is quite an extraordinary looking man. Follow me and i’ll take you to him.” She began walking away at a brisk pace. I struggled to keep up with her as my high heels clacked against the floor.
Soon enough I found myself standing in an opening to a room. The rooms walls were an olive green color that went well with the oak wood floors. I stepped into the room and pursed my lips. Andy was the only one in the room despite there being several other tables. I wonder how much extra he paid to make sure we were alone.
Andy rose quickly and offered me his world class smile. My heart began to race. I blushed and looked at the ground. I was getting irritated with myself. Here I was acting like a sixteen year old on a date with her crush instead of a 29 year old sitting down to talk with her ex-husband. Andy cleared his throat drawing me from my thoughts.
I looked up and noticed Andy had come across the table and pulled my chair out for me. I let myself give Andy a quick glance over and admire the way he looked in his suit.I quickly sat down and he pushed the chair in. He rested his hands on my bare shoulders for a moment before he walked around and sat back down in his seat.
“I honestly didn’t think you were going to come.” Andy said.
“Neither did I.” I answered honestly. Andy looked taken back but quickly recovered.
“What made you change your mind?” He asked. I shook my head before responding, “I really don't know.”
“Hi my names Carla! I’m going to be your waitress tonight.” A voice said cutting our conversation short. I looked up to see a girl with long brown hair standing beside our table. Her dark brown eyes were fixed to Andy as she spoke. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at her. ‘Oh, Honey he will only break your heart. The bible always said the devil was a good looking man.’ I thought to myself.
“Can I start you off with anything to drink?” She asked i her overly bubbly voice. Andy gestured to me. The girl looked at me, a bit of disappointment in her eyes.
“Just a water for me.” I said, offering her a smile. She turned those chocolate eyes back to Andy.
“The same for me.” I couldn’t help the shiver that ran through me as his deep voice broke the silence of the room. The girl wrote it down, assured us she would be right back with that, then took off.
“How have you been?” Andy asked. I pursed my lips and thought about how I wanted to answer the question.
“It's hard, raising two kids on my own while trying to balance two jobs. Kat’s got such an attitude and nothing I do seems to help it. Drakes a good kid, he's obsessed with bands right now. You’re all I hear about most days from that kid.” I paused and shook my head while letting out a small chuckle. “But we make it work.” Andy seemed shocked.
“Drake talks about me?” He asked. I laughed again.
“Oh yea. Black Veil Brides is his favorite band, you’re his favorite singer. He keeps up with all the news on you. In fact, he informed me that you and Juliet are engaged.” Andy’s face paled for a minute as he continued to stare at me.
“Yea.” He said, running his hands through his hair. I tilted my head to the side, looking at Andrew in confusion. He seemed regretful to be admitting that. If he didn’t want to marry her then why the hell was he engaged to her?
“How is she doing?” I asked. Andy squirmed uncomfortably.
“She’s...she’s doing alright.” Andy said. His seemed distant as the words left his mouth. I quirked an eyebrow at him. What was he hiding? Before I could ask Carla sat down two large glasses in front of us.
“You two ready to order?” She asked. Before I could respond Andy had ordered for both of us and sent Carla on her merry way. I looked at him startled. He blushed and took a sip of his water.
“Old habits die hard.” He mumbled, referring to the fact that he use to order for me all the time. He gave me that shy smile of his that got my heart racing. Old habits die hard indeed.
