Between The Roses

Little Talks

Everything on the radio was boring and overplayed. My hands were wrapped around the steering wheel as I sat in the ever present traffic that surrounds LAX. Lincoln was sound asleep in the backseat and I silently thanked the higher beings for that. All morning he had been fussy and crying, didn't want to be put down, and when he would fall asleep he would be awake two minutes later. The two of us had been awake since about 530 this morning and I was dying of exhaustion. I had to clean the house because, well, to be honest, I'd been neglecting the whole picking up after myself and vacuuming and all that. So all morning I was cleaning and holding Lincoln and trying to get my bandmates to accept that Callum is probably back in the band.

It was now about 7 at night and I was on my way to pick Andy up from the airport. His flight lands at 725 and I didn't really know if I'd make it in time. Apparently today was the day that every damn person was going to go on vacation or they were picking up someone. From in my purse that was sitting on the floor of the car I heard my phone ringing. I forgot to put it on silent so I quickly reached over and grabbed it. When I answered I looked back in the rear view mirror to make sure Lincoln was still sleeping.

"Hello," I answered and began driving again.

"Hey, what're you doing right now?" I heard Lettie ask.

"I am currently sitting in my car on the way to LAX to pick up Andy, why?" I asked.

"Damn, cause I was wondering if I could come over and hang out. Has it really been two weeks already?" She asked and I smiled to myself.

"It sure has," I chuckled and turned slightly to the left to take the exit. Andy left for Vancouver when Lincoln was only a week old, which meant that he was now three weeks old.

"I guess I'll let you get back to driving. LAX traffic sucks ass," she chuckled before hanging up.
I smiled before turning my phone to silent and setting it up by my speedometer. Alright, now to find a spot by the door to wait for Andy to come out. As I pulled up to the pick-up area, I could hear honks from people around me, hoping I would move. A sigh left my chest as I leaned back in my seat and looked at the ceiling. It was warm out for it being November so I was wearing gym shorts that only went down half my thigh and a tank top. From the radio I heard the faint sound of It Ends Tonight by All-American Rejects playing. An small smile formed on my face as I turned the radio up slightly and close my eyes.

As the sounds of the music filled the car, I got to thinking. It was November now, November 17th to be exact and Thanksgiving was like a week away. No plans had been made for the holiday and I was sorta feeling irritated by that. Since becoming a mom, I have grown to need for everything to be planned. Were we going to Cincy? Were we having a get-together with friends at the house? Were we just spending the holiday alone as a family? Who knows?

All of a sudden I heard the sound of a car door opening and someone saying something. I lifted my head and opened my eyes to see Andy standing there with a backpack on and his suitcase next to him.

"Hey," I smiled and he chuckled.

"Lost in your thoughts I'm guessing?" He asked.

"Maybe. How was the flight?" I asked and he shrugged.

"As we were taking off it was beginning to snow and there was some turbulence as we flew but other than that, it was fine. How was the drive here?" He asked.

"Boring and long. But Lincoln slept the entire time which I am so happy about," I told him and he smiled before opening the door next to Lincoln, presumably to say hello.

"He's gotten big," Andy commented and I chuckled.

"Yes he has. Not to rush you or anything, but, the cars behind me look to be getting mad that we're taking so long," I said and he smiled. After closing the door next to Lincoln, he walked around to the back and set his backpack and suitcase in the trunk before walking back around and getting in. As I began to pull away from my spot and drive, I heard Lincoln begin to make noises.

"No," I whined quietly and pursed my lips.

"What?" He asked.

"Lincoln is awake," I said and he raised an eyebrow.

"How do you know that?" He asked.

"Not only can you see his eyes are open in the mirror," I looked in the rear view mirror and saw Lincoln squirming around in his seat. "But he is making noises."

"Gotcha. You think he'll get fussy?" Andy asked.

"Maybe. I'm hoping not cause that is all he has done today, but it could happen," I shrugged.

"We'll see. So have you and your band made a decision about Callum?" He asked and I sighed.

"Nope. Brett is being an ass and sticking to his, we won't let him in until we can trust him and he can perform and blah blah blah. Aidden couldn't give two shits about it because he doesn't know Callum, but meh. And Cal is being super annoying because he keeps asking me if we've made a decision and when we're going to make the decision and I want to shoot him in the head," I rambled on and Andy chuckled.

"Plus you've got a newborn to take care of so your stress level and sleep deprivation status isn't helping," he said and I shook my head as I pulled off onto the highway.

"Not even in the slightest. Which, by the way, you get to be the one to get up every time Lincoln cries tonight," I told him and he shrugged.

"Okay. I've missed him, I'll do that willingly," he said. Then we got quiet for a good half hour while I drove and listened to the radio. Andy watched the rear view mirror almost the entire time, just kinda staring at Lincoln. I watched the road and lounged back in the seat.

"Hey I have a question," I started and Andy looked over at me.

"Okay?" He asked.

"What are we doing for Thanksgiving?" I asked.

"Uh, not sure. My parents are going on a vacation around that time so we're staying in LA," he said.

"Okay, that is what I needed to know. I was all confused on whether I needed to buy a plane ticket or not," I told him and he chuckled.

"Not at all. I was thinking we could have people over but if you wanna just be us three that's fine too," he told me and I smiled.

"I will talk to Lettie and Lake to see what everyone is doing. Otherwise I'll see what my sister is doing," I told him and he nodded.

"Sounds like a plan," he shifted in his seat and looked outside of the car. We had come to our neighborhood and I noticed that there were a bunch of kids still out playing. I smiled and pulled into our driveway before turning the car off. Andy quickly got out of the car and grabbed his things from the trunk while I got out and walked over to grab Lincoln from his seat. As I walked into the house I set my keys and purse down and then checked Lincoln's diaper. It wasn't dirty, which surprised me cause we were in the car for like two hours. Immediately I got to grabbing a bottle for him and warming it up. Andy walked in behind me and set his things down as well.

"It feels so nice to be home," he smiled before he walked over to me and wrapped his arms around me loosely.

"It feels nice having you home," I said and then I leaned up to kiss him. The last two weeks had been a little difficult being on my own with Lincoln all the time, but I got through and now Andy is home.

Notes

So this one kinda sorta sucks a little bit but not at the same time. That two month hiatus sure was fun wasn't it? Sorry about that.....

I hope you liked it!

Peace <3
