Wolf

There's No Use Crying About It

The glass window fogged up where Andy had his snout resting. He unintentionally left a smudge print when he pulled away, but he couldn't be bothered to clean it. Not like he could help it. He looked at the green, digital symbols that glowed on the corner of the heating-up box- well, Ashley called it a microwave. But Andy wasn't sure why.
He walked closer and tilted his head, staring at it as the symbol on the very end changed. Andy's eyes widened. He huffed when he realized he couldn't get up there in his wolf form, so he shifted and climbed up to it. He pressed his nose to it and stared, gasping when it changed again. He'd have to ask Ashley what this was when he was awake... Andy climbed down and went up the stairs to the room he was in earlier, jaw dropping when he saw he had the same glowy things on a little box by the bed!
Andy rushed over and picked it up, tapping it and observing the different buttons and switches that were on the top. He furrowed his brow. "A..larm..." he sounded out and pressed it, jumping off the bed as the box began to beep angrily; loudly. There was a string of curse words down the hall, as Ashley supposedly had woken up.
"What the hell are you- what did you do?" He groaned, rubbing his eyes and taking the alarm clock, turning it off.
"What is that!?" Andy shrieked, covering his ears still. Ashley put it down and pulled his hands away.
"A clock, Andy. It's just a dumb alarm clock." He sighed. "Go to bed, please? We can talk about this in the morning."

Andy blinked, looking at the 'clock' suspiciously. "Okay." He crawled up into bed and kept his eyes on the green numbers.
"Goodnight, Andy." Ashley rolled his eyes and shut the light off before shutting the door behind him. Andy muttered 'goodnight' in response, eyes still fixed on the illuminated digits displayed before him.
Andy rose an accusing finger from the bed, pointing at it and narrowing his eyes. "Evil.." He muttered before rolling over and going to sleep, finally.
The next morning came too quickly, Andy thought, so he simply burrowed under the covers to go back to sleep. Ashley, however, had different ideas.
It was almost 10 A.M. If Andy was to live as a civilized member of society, he had to learn to contribute and act like one. He knew it'd be hard, but when he literally had to drag Andy out of the bedroom, he knew this was going to be incredibly complicated.
"I don't wanna!" Andy whined for the thousandth time into the couch cushion. "I don't wanna learn!"
"Andy, you're how old?" Ashley sighed heavily.
Andy sat up, thinking.. "About one and a half." He tilted his head.
Ashley stared at him. "In human years, Andy. Not dog years."
Andy furrowed his brow. "I dunno!" he huffed and counted on his fingers. "18, I think?"
Ashley nodded and sat down. "Alright. Well. Then it's about time you learned about human things."
"Like evil demons?" Andy narrowed his eyes and pointed at the clock on the microwave. Ashley rolled his eyes and pushed his arm down.
"Andy, that's a clock. Not a demon. I've said that three times now."
"Yeah, well, we'll see who's right when they decide to attack us!" He stuck his tongue out. "Maybe I'll save you. Maybe I won't."
Ashley stared at him. "Right..." he cocked a brow. "Do you know how to tell time, at least?" "
Andy looked at him. "Tell what?" He tilted his head. Ashley groaned and put his head in his hands. This was going to take a long time...
Ashley began to explain as best as he could, hoping that Andy was at least understanding the basics. Andy just kinda... nodded. He was still confused, but it made a little sense, he supposed.
Overall, it took them nearly all day to get through the basics. Ashley didn't expect Andy to be so uneducated about the people world and way of living...
"Alright." He stood and took him upstairs. "Do you recognize this?" He held up the mint green bar found in the small white dish place on the corner of the tub. Andy tilted his head and took it, sniffing it.
"This is the thing I told you about! This is the spoiled stuff!" He gasped.
Ashley rolled his eyes with a soft laugh. "It's soap. You use it to clean stuff." He shook his head and turned the faucet on, putting it under the stream of water. "See? Look." He rubbed it between his hands and watched the suds form.
Andy gawked, taking it and examining it. "If it's supposed to clean things, then why doesn't it taste good?"
"Because it's not supposed to taste good. It isn't supposed to be eaten, just like every other cleaning product..." He shook his head, taking it back and rinsing his hands off after setting the soap down.
"Oh." He furrowed his brow and stared at the soap. "Okay." He followed Ashley out of the bathroom and around the house as he discussed more things he shouldn't and should do. Andy kind of half listened. He didn't really care, to be honest.
Andy glanced out the window, watching some birds flock on the top of a building across the street. "Where are we?" He asked, unaware he was interrupting Ashley.
"We're in the city." He sighed.
"But- we're so high up." He observed.
"It's a penthouse. That's not important, what's important is that you know how to-"
"I'm hungry." Andy interrupted and left the room casually, going to the kitchen and looking around in the fridge for something to snack on. Ashley ticked his jaw, following him.
Andy looked at him, confused. "I.. don't know what to eat..." he admitted.
Ashley laughed. "I'll make you a sandwich, okay?" He took out some bread and started to spread on peanut butter. Andy watched closely over his shoulder, taking mental notes of the process. Not even two minutes later, Ashley had the sandwich on a plate and read for Andy to eat. Andy picked it up, observing it.
"That's it? That's so easy!" He smiled and took a bite. "It's good too." Andy said with a mouthful of PB&J. Ashley shrugged and sat down, waiting for him to finish.
The tension-free moment only lasted until Ashley later brought up the reason Andy was even there. It was something he had tried to avoid talking about, but he knew they'd have to discuss it before time ran out. He had hoped that Andy would at least understand why they needed to talk about it, but, as usual, he became a little brat.
"I don't want to." Andy glared at Ashley.
"It doesn't matter whether you want to or not, Andy, you have to. We both have to, this isn't all about you." Ashley fired back.
"I don't want to fucking mate with you!" Andy said again. "I hate it here! I hate being a person! I don't want anything to do with this!"

Ashley saw red, grabbing a fistful of his hair and pulling him towards him. "Will you shut up!?" He spat. "We have until the next full moon, and I expect you to shape up. What would your family think if they saw you disrespecting me, huh? Disrespecting the pact?
"They'd be proud of me. They'd be proud that I'm loyal to them." He said stubbornly, wincing.
"Oh, you are so fucking full of it." Ashley sneered. "They'd be disgusted and you know it. Would you rather suck it up or be completely shunned by everyone you love? You want them to be disappointed in you!?"
"No.."
"Then suck it up, buttercup. 'Cause this is what you have to do to keep that from happening." He let go of him, shoving him a bit as he did so, and stormed out of the room. Andy sat back down, putting a hand over his throbbing head.

"I'm sorry." He mumbled to the emptiness, head hanging low. He squeezed his eyes shut and took a shaky breath in, exhaling slowly. "Mama, I'm sorry.." He whispered sadly, curling in on himself and laying on his side.
