I stood outside of room 555 hesitantly. “Jiiiiinxx?” I said loudly. “You in there buddy?” I hoped anybody else would hear my voice and join my hotel adventure. It was silent enough to hear the buzzing of the hallway lights.

“Yup.” He said from the other side of the door. “Still here.” I heard him sigh and lean against the wall.

I tightened my abs tensely as I opened the door to his room, expecting to see something odd like a mirror without a reflection or a giant number 4.

Instead I saw Jinxx, smiling warmly.

“It’s actually a relief to see you.” I said, making my way to the nearest sink to clean the coffee pot.

“Uh. Thanks. I think?” He placed a shoe in the door.

I was still washing the coffee pot when the table slid by the bathroom. “Jinxx, what the fuck?” I said.

“I’m not getting trapped in here again.” He shrugged casually.

I handed him the key from around my neck. “Dude, pick another room.”

“I can’t do that.” He handed it back.

I sighed. “You said my room’s next door right? Take that one.”

“I can’t take your room.” He shrugged the idea off.

“Why not?” I glared slightly at the mirror, making sure everything was normal.

“Because if there’s a fire and they find my body the wrong room, they’ll think I’m you.” He ran a hand through his hair and stepped out of sight.

“Tell the front desk you’re changing rooms?” I setup the coffee pot, closing my eyes and inhaling for a moment as the brewing began.

“There’s nobody at the desk. I think they left after we got here.” He sighed and laid back on the other bed. “Jake’s not even here yet. He didn’t drop his bags off or anything.”

“He probably got a master key and went exploring.” I nodded confidently. “Maybe we all have master keys.”

“I wouldn’t know.” He pointed to his key on the nightstand. “I came in here to shower and order something to eat but I must’ve passed out.”

I took his key into the hallway and tried the room next door, the one next to that and the one across the hall for good measure, none of them opened.
