Blood Queen

Fight?

It was a cold and rainy Halloween night. Thunder crashed from the heavens, spooking a black cat to dart across the road. The car screeches to a halt, barely avoiding Mr. Whiskers. “Ohh.” Giggles one of the four bleach blonde ‘teenagers’. “A black cat crossed our path.” She turned to the girl sitting next to her and dramatically curled her fingers into claws. “Now we’re cursed with bad luck for the rest of Halloween!” The girls fall into laughing fits and the one addressed giggles. “Oh my god Cathy! You guys are such freakazoids! Just drop me off here ok? I’ll walk the rest of the way home.” She steps out of the pink Chevy Malibu and waves to her friends. “Toodles!” The car speeds off leaving tracy alone in her bunny costume on a dark, abandoned road…

As fate would have it, it was raining a lot harder than she thought, so she walked toward the only light she could see besides the moon, the creepy old house by the cemetery. Once she reached the gate, a lighting bolt illuminated the rusted spider weathervane and the bats flying about around the crooked roof. The lights flickered as she used the tarnished brass knocker on the front door. Almost immediately the door was opened. The man inside was tall and pale with slicked back hair and an old fashioned black cape and ruby medallion. “Oh, hello sir,” She tittered. “I’m trying to get home and it’s raining really hard and I was wondering if I could come inside until it stops raining?” He smiled at her and his sharp canine teeth almost reached his bottom lip. “Vy of course sveetie. Come in, come in.” He answered in a thick accent. “Thank you mister…” He smiled again, red eyes flashing. “Velcome to my home, you may call me The Count”---------

“Okay that’s it. I can’t take it anymore.” Says Andy, shutting off the tv. We’re back at Andy’s apartment procrastinating on final projects by watching an apparently terrible ‘modernized’ remake of a Dracula film. Well, Andy’s watching it anyways. I’m mostly just sitting on the couch and unsuccessfully trying not to laugh at the increasingly more annoyed expression on his face.

“They do realize that most vampires aren’t from Transylvania right? And that our clothing taste evolves from the era we were born in?” He rants at the blank tv.

“Oh does it?” I ask, teasingly eyeing his 80’s-esque leather jacket and shoes.

“Hey.” He replies, annoyed look fading to a smile and a playful nudge in the ribs. “You don’t see me wearing stone-washed jeans, do you?”

“Fair point.” He leans back on the sofa, folding his hands behind his head.

“I’ve been meaning to ask you something.” He says, a note of seriousness slipping into his tone “Where do you want to go when school is all over?”

It’s a necessary question, but I’ve been dreading it. I don’t exactly know what I’ll do but I know I can’t be a princess. Unfortunately that doesn’t change anything. Viktor will still look for me. I’ll still have this crushing weight on my shoulders.

“I don’t know.” I sigh. “Wherever I go Viktor will still be hunting me. And I can’t hide forever. Literally forever. I just feel like my chips are down and there’s no good option on the table.”

A pause.

“You could always fight.” I can tell by his tone that he’s been thinking about this for some time. But he’s wrong. I can’t take on Viktor and whatever supernatural army I’m sure he probably has. Not only would it be suicide, but I’d be taking Andy down with me if I tried.

“No.” I respond firmly. “I can’t.” He nods once in what I hope is acceptance and doesn’t press the issue. At four-thirty o’clock he gives me a ride home from “Archery Club,” which is the lie I told my dad to explain the lost time while I was at Andy’s. When we get back to the house, it’s clear by the sound of inebriated voices and shattering glass that my Dad has his drinking buddies over. As I wouldn’t want to just walk through the front door into that, Andy shows me the way up the window trellis with the least thorns, and we hug goodnight. I tumble headfirst through my unlocked window.

Alone at last huh? Yeah. I wish.

Notes

*Gasp* *DUN DUN DUN!*
Who's in her room with her?!

I guess you'll just have to read the next chapter to find out. :)

On another note, has anyone else watched that tv series "The Flash"? Because I started binge watching it last night and now I'm officially hooked. I mean, it's not like we haven't seen the whole nerd-into-superhero thing before, but I think the main actor does a great job of toning down the cheesiness factor while still maintaining the integrity of a dramatic comic book character. :)

Anyways, Question of the day: What's your favorite movie snack besides popcorn? :)
Mine are those dark chocolate covered pomegranates. :)
Until next chapter;
