Heart of Fire

Prologue

It was the night of Christmas eve, a fragile looking girl at the age of 10, with ebony colored waistlength hair and fair skin wearing a sparkling tiara on her head, a beautiful red dress with pearl and rhinestone ornaments that reached a little below her knees and white shoes with ribbons at the clasp, she sat in a room filled with people and played the the song „holy night, silent night“ on a shining white grand piano in the center oft he room next to a big christmas tree and before a fireplace in which a small flame crackles.

While the little girl was in the center of attention, there was another girl that was smaller and younger than the other by two years, she looked a little chubbier and had her dark brown colored shoulder length hair styled in a ponytail, slightly tanned skin from playing outside in the garden everyday. She was wearing a light blue casual dress and simple black shoes.

The younger one of the two girls sat apart from the crowd on the floor.
It wasn’t like the younger girl wanted to be so secluded, she wanted to play with her big sister and parents but they send her away, cause they didn’t have time for such childish behaviour how they call it, so the smaller one sat alone in a corner of the room playing with an old patched teddybear.

The girl was bored and became hungry so she walked up to a elegant looking woman in a gold long dress with her dark ebony hair pinned up „Mommy I’m hungry~“ she said to her mother. „Not now, go to Ms Cherry“ her mother whispered sternly and looked back to her older daughter proudly. „But mommy~“ Now the girl was whining and pulled lightly on her mothers dress while looking at the lady with big light brown eyes. „I said not now! Go and disturb someone else!“ she whispered back angrily and shoved the little girl away, who was now tearing up and runned out of the room and up the stairs to her room, there she climbed on her bed and cried hiding her small face in her pillow. When you first entered the room you wouldn’t assume that it’s the bedroom of a little girl. Plain white walls, a bed, but no toys and no decorations.

In the opposite oft he bed was a walk in closet but it was used as a storage room for old paintings and other old things which weren’t used anymore, beside the door of the storage room was a small plain bathroom.

Slowly the bedroom door was opened and a young woman in her mid-twenties entered, she walked up to the girl lying on the bed and sat down, „Kitty-chan~“ She cooes and stroked over the hair of the small girl, who looked up with glistening eyes and tear streaked cheeks. „Cherry-neechan!~“ The girl cried and hugged the older „What happened, sweety?~“

Cherry was the nanny of the little girl, she was half Japanese and half American, she had long curly hair with a light golden colour and sparkling green eyes. „Mommy... she doesn’t love me~“ the little girl said pouting sadly, while still a few teardrops dropped out of her eyes and streamed down her cheeks. Cherry hugged her tightly again and stroked over her back soothingly „Honey, your mommy loves you, I’m sure she’s only busy with hosting the party, you know, there are many important guests, you understand darling?~“ the little girl nodded slightly.

„Cherry-Neechan?~“ she looks up after a while . „Yes, Sweety?~“
„Can you read a fairytale for me, please?~“ The younger one asked with puppyeyes. „Sure, but only if you wash up and get ready for bed~" The little girl nodded smiling brightly „I will~“
„Good girl and now shoo~“ While the younger get ready for bed, Cherry went first to the kitchen to get warm milk with honey and some pancakes then she went to her own room to get the fairytale book before going back to the room of the little girl.

Cherry loved the younger one like her own sister she never had and would do everything for her, she would also care like a mother for the younger one even when she herself was so young, because her real mother never had time for her.
When she entered she saw the little girl sitting on the bed, waiting for her Nanny impatiently. Cherry chuckled amused and sat down on the bed pinching the younger girls cheeks, the latter pouted and puffed out her cheeks cutely „Why are you always doing this Neechan?~“ she asks whining.
„Because you’re soooo cute, so which Fairytale do you want to hear, sweety?~“
„Cinderella!“
„But I already read this for million times“ Cherry chuckled at the answer of the younger. „It’s my favourite fairytale~“
Cherry began to read the fairytale „Once upon a time…“ While Cherry was reading the little girl started to doze off, when she finished reading, she pulled the blanket over the younger.
„Neechan?~“
„Yes, honey?~“
„It’s like you’re my fairy godmother…“ She mumbles softly before falling asleep.

3 years later
„DON’T GO!! CHERRY-NEECHAN!“ A 11 year old girl screamed and backhugged the older sobbing. „I’m sorry, sweety. But I have to~“ Cherry pecked her cheek and loosened the arms of the younger girl. „Neechan…“
„Promise me to make your dream come true and become a great singer and actress ne?~“
„But I can’t do it without you, you’re my fairy godmother…“
„Honey it’s only a fairytale, you’re strong and will achieve it, you can do everything if you want it, don’t give up. We’ll see each other again someday, it‘s no goodbye, now be a good girl.“
„I’ll miss you Cherry-Neechan…“
„I’ll miss you too little Kitten~“ Cherry pecked her on the cheek, before she left the house, leaving the crying girl behind.

The girl walked upstairs. when she reached the office of her parents, she stopped and walked in the room. „Mommy? Daddy?“ They didn’t even looked up when she called them. „Why did Cherry-Neechan had to leave?.“ Now the man looked up, „Because our Company isn’t so successfull this year and we needed money to pay the tuition for Shizukas music classes. You know she needs to be promoted to achieve her dream, she’s so talented. It would be a waste if she didn’t get the chance.“
„But… what’s with me?...“
„What should be with you?.“
„I want to make music too, I want to sing…“
„You and singing? Don’t be silly, you don’t even have the grades or the talent.“ Her mum said shaking her head. „And now go, we need to work, we don’t have time for your daydreaming and childish wishes.“ The little girl was sad and left the room quietly before running upstairs to her room. There she saw a book lying next to a box, she walked over to it and read the letter “Be strong and believe in your dreams, sharpen your claws and fight for yourself my little kitten, in love Cherry.” Tears streamed down her face, she picked up the book “Cinderella?...”

The girl held the book tightly against her chest sobbing softly, Cherry was the only friend she had and the only one who showed that she was cared for. She was interrupted by a soft mewling, she looked to the box confused and opened it, in it were a small black kitten “Who are you little one?” The girl lifted it up and the little kitten snuggled closer to her purring softly. She smiled and hugged it tighter.

The next few days she was emptying the storage room from all the rubbish and fill it up with things for her new friend, she didn’t have money so she used things she found in the house and crafts them like she wants them to be. She would play all day with the little kitten, and took half of her food to give it to the little one. In school she would take extra classes from her music teacher and learned how to play guitar and sang while playing. She learned fast but it was kept a secret from her parents, she knew they would forbid her to go to this class. She was happy even when she missed her Cherry-Neechan, she even named the cat after her.

2 Years later
The now 14 year old girl was playing with Cherry in the big livingroom. While playing she wore a bright smile on her face. Little did she know these happy days would soon be over.

Her older sister came into the livingroom and turned on the tv, she always ignored her little sister but now she looked with jealousy at her because she had a pet and herself didn’t have one. Even if she is the one at fault because she never asked for one.

The younger one got hungry and went to the kitchen to get something to eat, for herself and for her cat. She was in the middle of making a bow of cereal for herself when she heard a loud scream. She run back to the livingroom and there sha saw her sister standing with a vase in her hand smirking, she looked around searching for Cherry and saw her cowering under the sofa while hissing. She turned back to her sister and saw her smirking “What did you do to her?!”

She didn’t answer and let the vase fall down screaming again, the other looked at her like she was crazy, the younger heard running footsteps and turned to the door there she saw their parents. “What happened?!” The older runned over to her Mother, fake crying. “I-I wanted to play with the cat but it suddenly attacked me, I’m s-sorry Mommy I broke your favourite vase out of shock…” The younger looked at her in disbelief “But Cherry would never attack or hurt others without a reason…” Their parents turned to her “Shizu-Chan, did you do something bad to the cat?” Ayana shaked her head fake crying more “I would never do such horrible things”
“See, she said she didn’t do anything.”
“But…”
“S-she thinks I’m lying… because she loves this cat more than m-me!”
“Calm down, darling~” The youngest watched the three older hurt, their parents never hugged her or showed that they even cared for her.

“Mrs Whitley, throw this thing out.” The youngest widened her eyes, “Mommy, please don’t! Don’t throw Cherry out!” she pleaded with tearing eyes, she was afraid loosing her last friend she had. “Be quiet and Behave!” Her Father shouted. “But…”
“You don’t even need or deserve such a thing, your grades dropped even more because you’re playing around with this disgusting thing.” The little girl run over to her cat, picked it up and run to upstairs to her room, there she hid herself with Cherry in her walk in closet. “I won’t let them take you away from me…” She mumbles while tears streamed down her cheeks.

Cherry looked up at her and licked her right cheek before mewling softly, it was like she understood the situation. The girl giggled softly “stop it, that tickles~” She lied down on the matress with Cherry, soon the girl fell asleep. They were woken up by the door slamming open. The little girl sat up quickly and looked at her mother, she looked furious. “Give this thing to me.” The girl shook her head “I don’t want to!”she hugged the little cat tightly against her chest. “Don’t be such a selfish brat! What if your sister were seriously injured! Or worser what if her precious hands were ruined?!” The woman screamed and ripped the cat out of her daughters arms, she went out of the room and the only thing the little girl heard the sad mewling of the small cat. The girl now sat alone in her walk-in closet crying and screaming.
