Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 62: Veils of snow

A few weeks had passed since me and Andy got back together and christmas was approaching rapidly. Early december was a lovely sight, the snow falling down gracefully outside and the bare trees of the parks in the city being covered by a veil of white. A not so lovely sight though was the watery mess that was created on the school floors. More than anything, it looked like a grey slurry of filth, which didn't seem particularily welcoming. Especially not considering the fact that the first thing I did when I entered the school building was slip, falling down flat on the floor and completely ruining my jeans. Luckily, my loving boyfriend was there to pick me up.

"Hehehe...here, let me help you." Andy said, reaching out with his arm to grab mine.

"You know, laughing at me isn't exactly going to take away the dirt on my jeans." I said with a smirk.

"It's just that you looked funny. But it's not exclusively you. Anyone, and I mean anyone, looks ridiculous when they slip. If that was CC, I wouldn't even help him, I would just laugh my ass off until he helped himself."

"Guess it was justified then."

He reached down to kiss my lips gently, and just like that, we were back in school again for the final weeks. I knew it was gonna feel stressful, but with christmas right around the corner, there was reward to await.

Watching BVB during band practice was always awesome. What was maybe even more awesome was the chill out session that followed, accompanied by beer, shenanigans and loud music. This time we were in the basement at Jake's place, eating pizza and talking.

"You know who's a total a-hole? Miss Flanagan." CC said.

"I don't have her in any classes. Why is she an a-hole?" I asked.

"Oh if you know Miss Flanagan, you know why she's an a-hole." Ashley said.

"Remember that week when I almost died and was at the hospital?" Andy said. I nodded. "I got detention the first day back at school because of that "being sick is not an excuse for being late with assignments." And I was like, "dude, I've been in a coma for the past week, how the fuck was I supposed to do my homework." Trust me, it wasn't the first time she's acted this way."

I laughed. "Well if that's true, I would ditch all her classes."

"No you wouldn't, you're a nerd! You'd do your best and hope to still get an A+ in everything." Ashley said.

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean? I have a good reputation! I sometimes ditch classes because "I'm having cramps" but nobody cares, because they "know" that I don't ditch classes for no reason! Sometimes being a nerd gives you unfair advantages!" I said.

"She has a point. Even if I am really sick, people believe that the only reason I am not at school is because I'm at home smoking cigarettes and singing stupid songs. If I was the hard-working nerd, no one would suspect anything. It's the perfect disguise." Andy said, kissing my cheek.

"Wow. You two really are conspiring." Jake said.

"So when's the wedding?" Ashley said, making us all laugh.

"I can assure you that it's not within our high-school years. Atleast not within yours." I said.

After a while, we all left, leaving the empty pizza boxes in the trashcan. But as I went up the stairs to get to my car, I noticed Andy and Ashley were still a bit behind us. Being the last to leave, I accidentally eavesdropped a bit on their conversation.

"You still haven't told her?" Ashley said.

"No. I'm too afraid."

"Of what?"

"I don't wanna break her, Ashley."

Notes

So, I'm just gonna give you guys a quick update on what's happening with this story.

As you probably have noticed, I haven't been updating this story that often lately, and that is for two reasons. Firstly, it's because I've been working a lot on my story "2341 chords", that I would recommend you check out if you haven't already. Secondly, I needed to distance myself from this story a bit. I've been feeling as if Iris currently is less of the character I want her to be and I have not been feeling too thrilled about writing this story lately, simply because I don't know where to take it from here and how to start enjoying it myself a bit more. I wanna write it not only for the readers, but for myself.

I will continue it, right now I'm working on rounding it off nicely for an ending. But the updates are a little less frequent. I hope you guys understand and thank you for reading :)
