Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 35: The city of steel

Iris' P.O.V.

The only water I had gotten in the past 48 hours other than the small amount I had at school lunch, I got in a glass with a straw that was now sitting in front of me, empty. It had been a struggle, trying to drink it, but I got it. I was still thirsty, but atleast I wouldn't die by dehydration in a while. Hopefully.

The blood had stopped flowing about eight hours ago, mainly because I had pressed my wrist against my back as tightly as I could in order to lessen the amount of liquid escaping. It had worked sucessfully, but I was scared of what else could happen. What if he killed me before Andy got here? What would happen when Andy got here?

The man had mentioned that he had a second step with his plan, and I was afraid that it would involve one of us getting badly hurt, maybe to the point of it being lethal.

Hopefully, Andy was on his way. I had been stuck here for a long time, and it was noon at this point. Outside, I could hear rain shattering. But I hadn't seen anything from the man lately, nor his companion who helped getting me out of the van, lately.

I was guessing it was noon. Constant hunger and fatigue struck me, since I hadn't eaten in quite some time. The only hope I had was Andy. I wish to death to see him again.

Suddenly, I heard the man's voice, as he was walking down the stairs. His appearance got me afraid of moving, and it was quite evident by my suddenly frozen facial expression.

"Hey, don't be scared. I'm not gonna kill you or anything."

I didn't say a word.

"All I need you to do is sit silent and not move. I just wanna get you some water."

He replaced the empty glass with a full one and out of reflex, I leaned towards it to get a sip.

"Hey, what did I say about not moving?" He yelled, kicking my back. I screamed, as I hit my face against the edge of the glass. The impact made it fall over, breaking. Small shards of glass fell onto my cheeks, causing it to bleed. Luckily, my eyes were fine.

The man went upstairs again, leaving me bleeding on the floor. How I wish Andy was here.

Andy's P.O.V.

For the past 24 hours, I had stopped for nothing but energy drink, gas and fast food takeaway. I was tired, but determined to reach the steel city as soon as possible. The rain was hitting the window like bullets, and it wasn't that easy to see what was going on. The good part was that I, at this point in the trip, wasn't too far away from Pittsburgh.

During the one break I had that was longer than a few seconds, I had looked up Jimmy's adress. Turns out, he lived on the other side of the city, and Pittsburgh wasn't a small city. I had crossed the state border hours ago, but still, I had a few miles to go. And the weather wasn't really helping.

This was the furthest I had ever driven alone and I missed having people around me. But I missed no one as much as I missed Iris, and going through the effort to make all this up to her was worth it. It was all my fault, I wasn't even sure if she would want to be with me after this. First a man tried to kill me and then this. But I could barely live without her, unless you count lying around drunk as fuck and doing nothing all alone as living.

Suddenly, I could see the large buildings of the Pittsburgh skyline approaching me. As I drove across the bridge that led me into the city, I felt a sense of relief coming upon me. I was finally here. Now to find that adress.

The rain-covered glass revealed barely anything.except for grey colors. Turning around a corner to drive up a hill I noticed something approaching me, but I ignored it. Suddenly, I realized what it was. A truck started sliding around on the streets, losing it's grip of the road and coming in my direction.

Notes

Chapter 35 and I have almost 7000 views! I am happy for it, and I am so glad of all the people who have supported me in the comments. Thank you for that!

I guess I'm starting to become a true introvert, doing nothing but writing all the time. I enjoy it a bit too much, I guess. Well, on to the next chapter ;)
