Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 27: The second letter

"Ash, could you please stop hitting on my girlfriend?"

Ashley was sitting on the couch in his basement with his arm wrapped around my shoulder. I laughed it off. "Quit it Biersack, or you'll sleep alone tonight!" I quickly said back at him, jokingly. A chorus of "Oh snap!"s traveled through the room and Andy shook his head, smiling. "Nah, but seriously, let's leave THIS down here." I said, lifting Ashley's arm off my shoulder and placing it in his knee.

"You're coming to the show tonight, right?" Jake asked me.

"Heck yeah, she is!" Andy said, walking up to me and kissing me on the forehead. "It'll be her first show with us."

"I'm really excited for it! I love your music, well, atleast the songs that I've heard."

"You should be excited! It's going to be awesome! Lots of people, cool dudes, and girls we could use as bait too keep Ashley away from you!" CC said.

Ashley leaned in towards me, pouting his lips. I smacked him in the face and he exclaimed a loud "ouw!". The rest of the gang laughed at the incident, as if it was justified.

"You better apologize for that!" He screamed at me, jokingly.

"Well it's your fault for hitting on me. Everyone knows that unwanted lip-pouting is the trigger for disaster-Iris."

"Trust me, I know." Andy said and leaned in to kiss me.

In a week, my parents would return from their business trip in New York, but until then, I tried staying out with friends as much as possible. Andy's friends had become my friends, and now that my parents weren't home, I could stay out as late as I wanted, observing their shenanigans. Watching CC and Ashley getting drunk together was kind of like watching animals at a zoo. They turned wild after a couple of drinks.

After a while of talking, jamming and listening to weird stories about CC's ex-girlfriend, I excused me and drove back home. I needed to change clothes and get something to eat before the show, while packing a bag for staying with Andy during the upcoming weekend. I didn't need much though, only pj's, a few t-shirts and toiletries.

I went to get the mail, hoping it would contain another postcard from mom and dad. So far, I had gotten two. But it was mainly empty, except for a cream-colored envelope, without return adress, sent to me.

I opened the envelope with the help of a knife and folded open the thick, cream-colored paper. The handwriting was identical to the one in the previous letter, but the wording was different.

I'm after you Iris. I will find you and show you no mercy. I'll be there, wherever you hear the sound of broken glass and see nothing but darkness.

The note was starting to freak me out and I wasn't sure what I was going to do. Since I didn't know what it meant, I couldn't escape it. I was trapped in something I didn't even know if I had caused, and it was useless to fight air. Even though I was thinking about it, I didn't want to call Andy. I wasn't gonna upset him so close to the show.

Trying to pretend that I had never received the letter, I went through the closet in an attempt to find something cute to wear. I didn't want to come off as the "girly-girl", but I still didn't want to dress like a boy. In a drawer, I found a crop top that I paired with high-waisted shorts. I braided my hair an threw the braid over my left shoulder, and was then ready to see an awesome show.

"This song is called Knives and Pens!" Andy screamed out as the familiar riff started playing. I could see that he enjoyed the show to the fullest, smiling a lot throughout the song. His happiness made me happy, and the fact that I really enjoyed his music made it oh so easy to go nuts, sing along and headbang as the song built up.

I wasn't particularily close to the small stage, but I still had a good view of Andy. Ever so often he would make eye-contact with me, smile and wink. I would then blow him a kiss, showing my affection in return.

Only a few hundred people were attending the show, but since the venue was small, it was crowded. I was constantly elbowed by people, accidentally, but it wasn't uncommon. Quite a few of the people attending were girls my age, screaming their asses of whenever Andy made eye-contact with them. I laughed it off. My boyfriend was apparently a bit of a heartrob.

"Thank you!" The song was over and the opening riff to "We Stitch These Wounds" started playing. The guitar cords only struck twice though before sound of the guitars went out.

"What the hell?" Said Ashley, as his bass stopped working aswell. Seconds later all the lights were out and in the distance I heard the faint sound of glass breaking.

Notes

This update is semi-short, but it is another cliffhanger, surprise, surprise.

I feel like I did combine all the things I wanted this chapter to be and made it work, so I am really happy for it.

I will be updating a lot less tomorrow, possibly one or maybe two chapters if I get the time. The reason is that I will be traveling with my family to visit some old friends, and I probably should avoid being too asocial then. Maybe I'll write something in the early morning though. Cheers!
