Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 15: Glass against stone

Time for lunch at school and I was alone. Completely solitary, again.

Where were everyone I liked when I actually needed them? Where was Andy when I needed him? I turned up the music in my headphones and continued reading the book. "1984" by George Orwell. It was possibly one of my favourite books of all time, I was a huge sci-fi fan. Dystopian novels was something I really enjoyed.

From the other side of the cafeteria I could see Andy with his friends. I pretended I didn't notice them, mainly because I didn't know whether or not I was on good terms with his friends. Andy wasn't the only one who had abused me throughout the years, and I still had a hard time trusting him. How could I trust his friends, who never had apologized or acted nice towards me (atleast not while sober)?

A new song started playing and I had a difficult time to not sing along. I wondered if Andy liked Alkaline Trio? They were a really good band, and I knew he enjoyed Misfits as much as I did.

Just as I was going to put down my book to leave Andy approached me. He had his gang with him.

"Hey Iris?"

I had a difficult time hearing him while listening to music, so I pulled out my left earbud and listened.

"Yeah?"

"You mind if we sit here?"

"No, not at all. I was just going to leave."

"Can't you stay here for a while? Or do you have to study for a test or something?" Andy said with a smirk on his face.

"Nah, I can stay. I was just going to find some place to read."

They all sat down around the circular table, Andy on my left and Christian on the right side of me. I let the music going, since I wasn't expecting me to be a part of discussion, but the book went straight down my bag.

"Whatcha listening to?" I looked up to see Christian.

"Alkaline trio. I really enjoy their music."

"No shit! I love alkaline trio!" Andy said, surprised but smiling.

"We all know you do, Biersack. It's not news." Ashley said from the other end of the table, sounding slightly pissed. I guess atleast me and him weren't on good terms.

I zoned out for a bit, since everyone else were talking about stuff that I didn't exactly find interesting. Ashley mainly talked about the girls he had been with during the weekend and Jake were talking about some band related stuff. I brought up my sketchpad and started drawing again. I didn't know what to go for, so I drew the scenery I had witnessed the same morning. The rooftop. The beautiful sunrise. Occasionally I noticed Andy looking down on the sketchpad in my lap and smile. I guess he understood the motive.

Mid-conversation, my sketchpad was ripped from my hands by Christian.

"Hey! Give that back!"

"This is incredible! Where did you get the inspiration?"

"My morning today." I said, blushing slightly at the compliment. "Thanks for the compliment Christian."

"Whoah, I haven't heard anyone call me that in forever. Just call me CC. That's what friends do."

We were friends now?

"You feel like coming to the party at Jake's place on friday?" Andy asked me.

"Whoah, whoah, you're inviting people to my party?" Jake immediately responded.

"I thought that was the point Jake? I'm inviting a few people I met in senior english." Jeremy said.

"I guess it's fine. More people more fun, right?" Jake said, looking at me.

"Yeah. You know, why not? It's not like I'm up to anything anyways this weekend."

Andy smiled and wrapped his arm around me, but instead of pulling me close to him, he just patted my back lightly. I guess he hadn't told his friends yet. Only a few minutes later, I left.

I was locked up in a bathroom stall at the school when I heard two rather familiar voices enter. Instead of leaving, I stayed. I was still scared of one of them.

"Listen Biersack, I know what's going on between you and Iris and you need to quit it." Ashley said, sounding quite aggressive.

"Why do I have to do that? I can be with whoever I want!"

"Ha! Yeah, of course you can, but there's a difference between being with someone you love and being with someone you're using!"

"What are you talking about?"

"I've seen you do this time and time again Andy. You'll be with someone for a few weeks, then you leave her for the next one. I could tolerate it the first few times, because those were bitches to all of us, but this? You'll break her!" Ashley's voice got louder and more angry. I could barely breathe at the thought of his words. Could this true?

"I'm not using her!"

"You're still in love with her, aren't you? You still love Lexi, don't you?"

"Are you kidding me? She cheated on me!" Andy answered, almost screaming.

"That doesn't answer the question."

I couldn't hold my tears back anymore. The realization that I had trusted him all this time came upon me like a sudden tornado and shattered with a bam. Throughout all this time I had told myself not to let him get into my heart, but he did it. And now it was broken, like thin glass against a stone cold floor. I couldn't help myself and ran out crying from the school bathroom, past the two arguing friends.

I refused to be here anymore.

Notes

Plot twist! Bam!

I really had no idea what to write after the first part, I'm not good at writing interesting convos. But I really liked this chapter, even if I could have ended it more gracefully.

I think that Andy's ex (Lexi) might become a more developed character. I mean she has been mentioned a few times, even if only now by name.

As usual, thanks for reading! I really appreciate it! Finally, a chapter that doesn't feel like a filler!
