Sons of Night

Chapter 5

Mayden’s POV
As we walked to the cabin I suddenly began to feel very afraid. Not of Andy, but of meeting new people. As we cut through the snow and got closer to the building it started to look bigger than it should, and I was feeling very small. We reached the door and I felt like my fingertips were going numb with anxiety, my palms began to sweat in the cold and could barely swallow. I wanted to disappear. What if these guys were really mean or something? What if they decided that they didn’t want me around. We reached the door to the cabin. Fear gripped at my chest. Andy put his hand on the door and then turned to look at me.
“You okay? You look like you just saw a ghost,” He said with a look of sympathy.
“I’m not good at meeting new people, like really not good,” I said wringing my numb hands. I could feel my heart thumping hard in my chest.
“What are you so scared of?” He asked gently
“What if they hate me?” I whispered.
“They won’t hate you they’ll be happy to see a new face, I’m sure,” He put a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“I just want to hide,” I said looking down to the ground, I could feel that I was drawing in close to myself, I wrapped my arms around my chest. I felt his arm slide around my shoulders and pull me closer to him.
“Hey, I’ve got you, just like last night. You’re safe if I’m here. I’ll introduce you to them and I know that they’ll be at least as hospitable as Jinxx,” He said looking off into the direction that his friend had walked off into the woods.
“Okay,” I whispered nodding, He grabbed the handle of the door and pulled it open. We stepped inside and it was much warmer in there. We were in a big main room with a roaring fire on the left wall. There were some old couches that didn’t match each other pulled up around the fire. To our right was a staircase that lead up to a second floor, it was very dark up that way. On the far side of the big fireplace, but on the same wall, was another closed door leading God knows where. On The far wall from us where two more doors. It was odd, all of their things appeared to be either handmade, or really old, worn out, like it had been picked up off the sides of the road. Parts of the building we were in looked store bought, like the glass windows as well as the couches and some of the inside doors. There were no electric lights, just fireplaces, candles, and oil lamps, I was willing to bet that it got really dark around here at dark.Andy took off his gloves, hat, scarf, and coat and hung them up on a peg on the wall and I followed his example.
“Come on dude, you gotta eat something,” I heard a deep voice saying from across the room.
“No, I don’t want to throw up again,” A higher voice whined back. I looked into the area in front of the fire where the voices where coming from. I could see a fluffy, black haired head sitting in front of one of the couches bending over and looking at someone who was on the couch.
“CC you have to eat at some point,” Andy called over to them. The head looked up quickly, surprised by Andy’s voice. He had a square jaw and hazel eyes. His eyes landed on me his brow crinkled in confusion.
“Uhm, Andy. Who?” He said looking from me to Andy and back again. Andy started walking over to them and beckoned me forward with him. I hesitantly followed, the new face was eyeing me with an unreadable expression, I tried to ignore the feeling of his eyes on me. Andy stopped walking when he was around the front of the couch and he looked down at the person there with a look of concern. I came with him and looked to. Laying on the couch was a tall skinny guy. He had a long, drawn face, one may call it a horsey face, but I thought he looked cute. Even though he was clearly very sick I could see the traces of a smile on his face. He was staring at me when I looked at his liquid brown eyes. He turned to look at the other guy slowly.
“Jake, is the fever making me hallucinate or is that a really pretty girl standing next to Andy,” He said, his eyes were drifting lazily from me to Jake, I felt myself blush.
“Unless you and I are having the same hallucination, yes she’s really there,” Jake replied. Andy smiled just a little.
“Guys, this is Mayden. Mayden this is CC and Jake,” Andy introduced, gesturing to each of us in turn. Both the boys said hi and I said hi back.
“I’m assuming that you have some sort of reason for bringing her here,” Jake said, and Andy nodded.
“He brought her here to give us something pretty to look at for once,” CC said a grin stretching across his face. My cheeks got hot again.
“You know she can hear you right?” Jake said looking down at CC disapprovingly.
“She can?” CC said, a shocked look appearing across his face. Jake nodded to him. Andy lead me over to a loveseat, out of CC’s view and gestured for me to sit down. I did and instantly my legs were grateful for the plush relief the sofa offered. He sat down next to me and to my surprise he put his arm around my shoulders. He started leaning in closer to me and for a moment I thought he was going to kiss me then his lips found my ear.
“Please don’t think badly of CC, he’s just really sick and he’s not normally like that,” Andy said softly, I could feel his warm breath and his lips brushed my ear as he spoke. For a moment I almost forgot to react to what he was saying. Then I nodded, the only reasonable response I could form at the moment. There was a span of time, that felt very long, when he stayed close to me after he was done talking. Then I felt him take a breath to speak again.
“CC’s right though, you are very pretty,” He mumbled, I felt his knuckle brush my cheek and I instinctively looked in his direction. His blue eyes met mine and he was very close to me i didn’t dare move a single millimeter. My breath caught in my throat and then he let out a sigh and looked away from me, leaning back into normal spacing at the same time, but he kept his arm around me. I only had a few seconds to sit and try to regain my ability to function before I felt a blast of cold as the front door opened. It was beginning to get dark outside and I could see two figures coming in the door, stomping the snow off their boots.
“Sorry it took so long, we had to freeze a few fish,” A voice that wasn’t Jinxx’s called, “I hear that Andy has brought us a lady,” the voice finished. Andy’s arm tightened around me as one of the figures from the door came into the firelight. He was girly, to say the least. Long hair, overall feminine features but a goatee proved that he was in fact male. Not to mention, tall skinny, attractive and covered in tattoo’s just like the rest of them.
“Hello, lady,” He said when he saw me, dragging out the O. He sauntered right across rug in front of the fire took my hand off my lap and kissed the back of it.
“Get off her!” Andy barked, making me jump. The new arrival straightened and met Andy’s sparking glare with a steady gaze.
“What? I was just being friendly,”
“Ashley, I swear if you lay one finger on her without her permission I will commit another murder, and my victim is going to be you,” Andy spat, I was shocked that he was throwing about his crime like that, but I heard Jake snicker, so maybe it was something he did often. Ashley held his gaze for a moment longer before stalking to the other side of the room and sitting down in a lounge chair. Jinxx was sitting in the one next to it.
“No need to get so snappy at me. You know as well as I do that as soon as every one of us saw her our first thought was if we’d get to bang her or not, but I see you’ve already staked your claim,” Ashley said calmy from the chair. I felt Andy’s entire body go rigid, I suddenly felt sick. Of course. That’s why he had brought me here. Boy alone in the woods for ten years, what else would he want. I was very aware of the weight of his arm on my shoulders and the eyes of the whole group on me. I took his arm and moved it from off his shoulders, his eyes turned to me. They still held the anger from Ashley, but when they saw my face, he must have realized what I was thinking.
“No, I promise that’s not what it is,” He said. I was angry, I felt betrayed and now he had the audacity to lie about it. I stood up fuming with rage and barely unable to think in my panic. He was a murderer, what if he would stoop as low as to force himself on me? What if all of them would go that low? I knew Andy was a murderer, but I didn’t know what the rest of them had done. I swallowed hard, backing away from him, he stood up and took a step towards me grabbing onto my wrist.
“Get away!” I screamed shoving his hand off of me. I ran from him, fear gripped my chest. I almost ran to the door, then I remembered the killer was still out there looking for a kill. I ran up the stairs of the cabin. It was pitch dark so I stumbled many times I was sure my legs where going to be black and blue. I got to the top of the stairs and ran straight into a wall that I couldn’t see. I couldn’t hear anyone coming up after me but I heard yelling and things breaking downstairs. I felt along the wall trying to find anything. My fingers found a doorknob. I turned it and luckily it turned and the door swung open with ease. I ran into the room, still blind, slamming the door behind me. I tripped and fell over something and I couldn’t find the strength to get myself back up. I crawled until I found a safe spot. It felt like I was in a corner made by a wall and some sort of chest of drawers. I huddled myself there listening to the fighting down below. I could hear things shattering and Andy’s voice above all screaming in rage. I had never felt such fear. Then there was silence. For a moment I thought that I’d gone deaf and blind.
Then I noticed something, something that was quite odd. I could see the glow of a faint golden light coming from behind the chest of drawers I was hiding behind. The little sliver caught my attention in the dark. It was like there was some sort of room back there and someone had left the lights on. Then something more important caught my attention. The swinging light of a lantern coming from under the door that lead to the hall. They had finally come after me.

Notes

Here we are, the newest chapter. Okay so this chapter wasn't supposed to go this way but I had some major drama going on when I was writing it so this happened. Sorry if there are typos. Please leave me a comment, I'm really wondering what you all are thinking since no one has commented in a while. Anyway, I may make another chapter before the week is out because I'm inspired now, have a good night.
