Just a boy and a girl

Chapter three

Sleep deprived and dishevelled I swung my pyjama clad legs off my small bed. Sighing I stretched my arms a high as they will go until they finally let out a satisfying crack. The first point of call every morning is to see what damage the previous night at work had done to my appearance.
Looking in the large decorative mirror hung above my dressing table I winced, the realisation of having to tame my hair, drag a brush through the mane that was on my head made me shudder every morning. I flexed my muscles and picked up my strongest brush and started on my long burgundy hair. I haven't a hair cut in nearly five years now and the almost matte looking waves were now flowing past my waist. Glinting a brighter shade of purple from the sunlight that was streaming in from my window as the result of yet another beautiful sunrise in Los Angeles.
I moved out here about three years ago. With the typical dream of stardom. A dream almost every 18 year old girl had, and now, fast approach my 21st birthday I still worked at the same club since my first week of arrival. Not the fame and fortune I had once expected but the job kept me living comfy in my apartment. I had everything I needed, including my beloved cat Marley. Ironic name I know, the film Marley and me was one of my favourites and made me yearn for a puppy. But once I had set eyes on this beautiful tabby cat I knew he was mine and I guess the name stuck. I guess he's close to a puppy as he is very loved and sometimes over indulged with his treats and now the poor fluffy fool has seen slimmer days.
Marley basically screamed at me when I padded into my kitchen after twenty long minutes of getting ready and I smiled down at my companion. Stupid I know but this cat keeps me from being insane. I haven't been able to trust people to be there since the day he left and now my only solace and comfort is with silence and solidarity.

I had to be in work early today as I had to help and order for the club to be booked for some after party. In my three years here I have managed to climb the ladder in my workplace and and up manager of " Retro" a club situated on the main strip of L. A. Meaning longer hours but better pay, the hours don't bother me as, like I said, I find peace in confinement and it now meant I didn't have to try at communicate with drunk people at 3am over ear splitting levels of music. I rolled my eyes as I looked over to the clock on my coffee machine, only an hour before I have a meeting and today I just wanted to crawl back onto bed with Marley and read. I had stayed at the bar till 4am and in result only got four hours of sleep once I had arrived home. But it was busiest time if year swing as the extremely famous "Warped tour" had come to los Angeles and the aftermath of people was in their hundreds. My attention was snapped back to reality as I heard two beeps, the first telling my coffee was ready and the other alerting me I had a text.

John: Hi Madeline. Just texting to confirm our meeting for the booking is still on.

Madeline: I appreciate you contacting me John. Yes the meeting is still occurring at 10am. Just sign in at the office and I will come and get you.

Grabbing my keys and purse all at once I rushed out the apartment with my coffee in a plastic cup and I started walking towards the strip. Glad I didn't need my jacket this morning I pulled my aviators over my eyes and appreciated the beating sun on my pale face and smiled. I liked the California weather, it was much better than Ohio. Much warmer. I was wearing my work uniform which consisted of a white house and a black pencil skirt that came down to my knees, ut seemed I needed to look professional so I had a pair of five inch black pumps that brought my height up to regular and even though it was only a short walk they were starting to hurt my feet. I stopped for breath once I reached the corner before the club and composed myself. Checking my hair was still In its bun and smoothing my skirt I smiled, feeling confident for the first time in a while.

"Morning Mad! Do you want your messages?"
Anne my overnight temp beamed at me , her short blonde hair tousled and her smile genuine.
"Oh, I erm have a meeting now so could you put them on my desk?" I replied in the loudest voice I could, that only being above a whisper. She nodded and smiled at me as I climbed the steps to the offices, situated just above the club.
"Hi. You must be John"
I smiled as I held out my hand to the man infront of me. He must of only been about 5"6 and had short strawberry blonde hair his light blown eyes glinted at me as he nodded. Taking my hand in his. He was wearing jeans that looked distessed at the knees and a band shirt for some band I had heard of but never really paid attention to. I smiled once more at the man before signalling the way to my office.
"okay well. Would you like to come this way?"

After a long two hours we both stood and shook hands once more. Agreeing that his party could rent the club for this evening and there were to be about 250 In attendance. I would of course be there as through his generosity John had invited me. A I politely accepted. He had mentioned that the party wasn't held just by him but by a band that he was tour manager for. A group located not far from here called Black veil brides. He had played me some audio of them a I didn't mind their music. I'm into the genre but it takes an emotional connection for me to really follow a band. But tonight should be fun I guess?

This actually isn't half bad, sugar. I won't make a further judgment without reading more, but needless to say, I've read far worse, between this site and many others. Keep doing what you love when you have time or feel like it, and don't let others make you feel like you have to update when you're not ready.
