In The Place I Hide

White Noise

White Noise

Monday rolled around far too quickly for my liking. During my time away from the campus, the police launched an investigation to find out what had happened to Kyle.

There had been no witnesses and the only footage they had of him was from earlier in the evening. The last people that had seen him were Sean and that girl he was with. The investigation was still pending, but there was no evidence or DNA.

It was like whoever killed him had been an expert. I couldn’t imagine anyone like that on the campus, but then you never could tell.

I had had an amazing weekend. Jinxx stayed with me all weekend and when I left the room that morning I felt so disappointed. I wanted to stay with him all day today.

I trudged down the hall and made my way through the lounge. There was only one person in there. It was a girl I had never seen before. She was small with dark eyes and long, dark hair. She was reading a book.

Although I had never wished harm on Kyle, the lounge was a more peaceful place now. People could come down and read peacefully without him bullying them. I smiled at the girl and she smiled back.

I made my way down the street. The sensation of being watched made me look over my shoulder. It felt different though, almost hostile. I quickened my steps and nearly barrelled into someone. A pair of hands gripped my shoulders.

I looked up and saw it was Sean. He removed his hands and glanced around for a moment. He then smiled broadly at me. I did not return the smile as he had been awful to me that day in the café.

“Good Morning, Ellie.” He seemed to sense my aggravation.

“Hey, yeah it is.” Instead of yelling I just managed a feeble agreement.

“Listen I’m sorry about the incident in the café. I shouldn’t have said all those things.” Sean rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

I nodded in understanding. Maybe he felt bullied by Kyle too. I decided to accept his apology. After all it was the right thing to do.

“I was hoping we could go on another date sometime.” He smiled.

I must have shown my hesitation and he looked annoyed for a split second.

“We could hang out sometime as friends.” I murmured.

“Oh yeah, I forgot you have a boyfriend now.” Sean sounded annoyed.

I really didn’t understand where all of this annoyance was coming from. He didn’t know Jinxx so he had no reason to judge him.

“Yeah, I do.” I mumbled, unused to having a boyfriend.

I glanced at the watch on my wrist. I started walking and he followed. If we didn’t hurry we were going to be late. Sean followed and we walked side by side.

“So does he go to uni?” He asked, surprising me.

I remembered the lie Jinxx had told my parents about his employment status and decided to replicate that lie. It wouldn’t hurt just this once.

“No, he’s a tattoo artist.” I replied.

“Should have guessed.” His comment angered me.

“Why do you hate him?” I snapped.

Sean scoffed and looked away. He was really starting to wind me up now. I sped up and he followed suit, clearly not understanding that he was annoying me.

“He looks like a freak.” Sean retorted.

I narrowed my eyes and continued walking. We walked all the way to class in silence. I sat at my usual desk and Sean stayed as far away from me as possible. Good, I thought to myself.

The lectures continued till three thirty. I had been so desperate to get away from Sean that I ended up eating my lunch in a stall in the bathrooms on the second floor.

I had spent the whole day searching for ways to avoid him. By the time it got to three thirty I barely noticed the time until our lecturer said we could leave. I packed away my things quickly and bolted for the door.

Voices followed me and I glanced round to see Sean waking after me. Good grief, why couldn’t he just leave me alone? I got out onto the street and smiled at the sight.

Jinxx was sat on one of the stairs leading into the building. His dark hair billowed in the gentle breeze. He tilted his head and noticed me staring at him. A bright smile appeared on his face and he stood, dusting off his clothes.

He stood out among the people on the street with his dark jeans and leather jacket. He climbed the last two steps to me and hugged me. I felt a little nervous about hugging in public like this, but I reciprocated.

We pulled apart and I noticed he was staring over my shoulder. I peeked round and saw Sean. He looked angry and it frightened me. I had never seen him look that annoyed before.

I glanced at my boyfriend. His expression was neutral for a few seconds, until that same arrogant smirk appeared.

Sean turned and stalked away. Jinxx shrugged and took my hand, walking next to me. I felt better now, less nervous.

“So how was your day?” He asked.

“Yeah, pretty good. Hey, what was all that about?” I asked, feeling a little more nervous again.

“What you mean that human glaring at me? I don’t know,” Jinxx rolled his eyes then. “I think he’s, like in love with me, or something.”

I laughed at that. I then remembered what I wanted to discuss with him. We were still getting to know each other and piece by piece I felt like I was figuring him out.

“Is now a good time to get to know you?” I asked, trying not to sound so eager.

He shrugged then glanced at me. Eventually he nodded, offering silent consent.

“Did you have any other parents?” I watched as he nodded.

Back in Victorian times they had something called the orphan train that gave children to families. These children were lost and alone with no families. He obviously didn’t want to discuss his foster parents.

“You have until we reach the dorms.” His voice cut through my thoughts.

“Okay,” I agreed. That would give me a fair time. “How did you become like this?”

“I was kidnapped at fourteen and used as a sacrifice,” He was speaking, but not looking at me. “I stopped ageing at twenty-six.”

The dorms appeared and I wanted to ask more questions, but he turned to me, smirking triumphantly.

“Times up, babe.” He seemed calmer now.

No one was in the lounge and we walked straight through and down the hallway. I unlocked the dorm door, letting us in. I locked the door and sighed.

“So you’ve been twenty-six for a really long time, then?” I couldn’t stop with the questions.

I turned round and noticed he was directly in front of me. His expression was calm and I went to move past him. With a movement so fluid, his hand pressed against the door, stopping me from getting by.

“I said times up,” His tone was slightly deeper. A shiver chased down my spine. “Now I’ll have to punish you.”

What the heck was that supposed to mean? I doubted he would actually hurt me in any way and the way his eyes had darkened suggested he wasn’t going to hurt me.

Our lips met and I whimpered when he bit down, rather roughly on my lower lip. It stung and I pulled back. He was barely inches from my face, observing me.

“That really hurt.” I said, sounding as timid as I felt.

“Sorry,” He didn’t really sound sorry. Instead our lips met again and he was gentler this time.

I was enjoying the kiss when he pulled back, taking my hand and guiding me towards the bed. Oh no, this couldn’t be happening. I felt my knees buckle as we neared my bed, but I sat opposite him.

“You look terrified.” He chuckled.

“No, it’s just I’m a little nervous.” My voice cracked then and he noticed, reaching up and brushing some hair behind my ear.

“I won’t hurt you. I just want to touch you a little.” The hand traced down and grazed my lower lip.

I’m sure I could consent to some touching. I didn’t see what the big deal was, really. I was trying to be confident and sexy, but I’m fairly certain I was the opposite.

I felt like a nervous teenager and I suppose I was in a way. I had never dated guys in school. I had always been focused on my studies.

When my friends got their first boyfriends I was far too busy watching anime and reading manga and various other books. Guys never approached me and I guess I never really noticed. If they did approach me, it was usually to enquire if my friends were single, or to make fun of me.

“I’m not skinny though.” My insecurity seemed to be fuelling how I felt now. Jinxx pulled back, looking concerned.

“I don’t care about that,” He replied. I peeked at him from under my fringe.

“Really? Well, people always say I’m fat.” Stupid teenage insecurity.

“Well, they’re stupid.” He gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him. “I want to touch every curve on your body.”

“Q-quit being lewd.” I stammered.

“You love it.” He smirked.

His fingers were still gripping my chin and I met his gaze. Our lips met again and moved together. A whole host of butterflies fluttered in my tummy.

The hand on my chin trailed down and wrapped round my back, pressing us closer. My hands gripped his jacket. I kissed back, but was quite wary about how far this could go. I wasn’t ready for anything that involved removing clothes. I felt I needed to stress that point so I pulled away first.

“W-we can kiss and stuff,” I blurted out, blushing when he quirked a brow at my awkwardness. “No removing clothes though. Everything stays on.”

As I said this I motioned to myself and his blue eyes followed then looked back at me. He cocked his head to side, grinning coyly at me.

“So I can touch you, but not remove any clothes? And I can touch you anywhere?” He sounded serious for a minute.

Don’t agree to this, stupid. Shut up, brain. I couldn’t speak so I nodded. He shrugged and moved closer which seemed almost impossible since we were nearly pressed together.

The next thing I felt were Jinxx’s lips on mine again and I responded eagerly. He still had one arm wrapped around me, whilst the other traced the curve of my hip through the clothes.

I gasped into the kiss when that same hand caressed my bust. I recoiled from the kiss, unused to having that area touched so intimately. I could feel myself shaking.

“You said anywhere as long your clothes were on.” Jinxx grinned, his voice was smooth and before I could find a loophole in that statement he had claimed my lips again.

I let out a muffled whimper as our lips moved together. Every so often his hand would caress my breasts. Even through my t-shirt I could feel the sensation and it made me feel light-headed.

He pulled away first this time, tracing his thumb round one of my breasts. I let out a half moan-half whimper. Pain and pleasure blurred when he bit my neck and sucked on the spot before pulling back.

My neck felt sore and I touched a finger to the spot to find it was tender. I pressed down on the skin and yelped, feeling stupid.

“You keep on biting me.” I grumbled.

“You taste good,” He grinned. “You could always bite me back.”

I recoiled at that and he laughed. His laugh was melodic and I smiled despite feeling awkward. I shifted nervously.

“Do you have any talents?” I asked, and for a moment he seemed nervous.

“I can play the violin, piano and the guitar.” He pulled a face when I looked awe-struck. “Quit looking so shocked. It’s not that amazing.”

“No, it’s just I was happy,” I stumbled over my words. “Will you play for me sometime? I mean, if you want to, not that I’m forcing you or anything.”

Jinxx chuckled again and his hand gripped mine, caressing his thumb delicately across my knuckles. His actions were so loving and it made me smile.

“Yeah, sure I will. I’ll write you a song.” He bought his hand up and traced my cheek with his fingers, allowing them to dance across my skin.

“I’d really like that. No one has ever done that for me, not that I’m a loser or anything.” I wanted to stop word vomiting.

His lips met mine briefly and he pulled back. I decided to prepare some food after that.

************************************************

Dim rays of sunlight streamed into the window as the sun set, casting shadows across the room. The shadows danced across the walls.

Sean lounged on the bed, not bothered by the ever expanding darkness. He was staring at the ceiling. His thoughts weren’t on homework, instead he thought of Ellie.

He should have had his mind on Kyle’s funeral and the loss of his friend, but he couldn’t stop thinking about her. She had rebuffed him and that hurt. She loved her freaky boyfriend and jealousy ate away at him.

“What does he have that I don’t?” He fumed to himself.

“The girl you love for one,” A gruff voice responded. Sean sat bolt upright. “And a time limit.”

“Who the fuck is there? Wayne, if that’s you, very funny, man.” Sean snapped.

Across the way one of the shadows jolted and Sean nearly screamed when it became solid and tangible. The demon stood opposite him, seemingly admiring his room.

“Not Wayne, I’m afraid.” The demon huffed, appearing to be out of breath.

“What the fuck are you?” Sean was starting to freak out.

“It matters not who I am,” The demon snarled. “I want for you to get that young lady as your bride and I believe I may be able to assist.”

Sean eyed the creature sceptically. Where did this thing come from? How could it help him win over Ellie? He motioned for the creature to take a seat, which it did, in his computer chair.

“So, talk. How am I going to get Ellie?” Sean asked. The demon grinned.

“Well to begin with, my name is Baal.”
