If Hell were any Closer

Alex’s POV:

I paced anxiously back and forth, to the point of near desperation for a simple response or reply from the girl I was convinced that I loved. This must’ve been love, right?

It had to be, it just fucking had to be.

“Dude, relax, you’re fucking in over your head. She’s with Andy, remember? I tried to get her, and failed miserably, do you really want to go down that road as well?” Oli advised, fiddling with something on his phone.

“But he’s shit to her! You now that. He’s a fucking dick and she’s just so innocent and sweet…” I trailed off, lost in my daydream.

Oli sighed, “Alex, you’ve just got to accept that she’s no longer available, for any of us. I’ve accepted it, so should you.”

I let out an exasperated groan, resting my forehead on the windowpane, looking out into the endless world but not really seeing anything. That was how things worked most days anyways. Besides, the world lac ked colour; only variation so grey which was a combination of black and white. See, the world is really just black and white. Simple, easy, yet also complex and intricate.

My phone buzzed, the vibrations sending electrical shocks down my spine as I turned around to face Oli, who appeared as surprised as me. I hesitated before picking it up, and to this day, I am glad I did.

“Hello?” I asked curiously, already knowing who was calling.

“Alex? I need you,” she spoke in a hushed whisper, anxiety and fear evident in her soft voice.
