Welcome To My Life

I Can Get Through This

A large stack of papers plopped down on Sylvie Chester's desk. "I need you to finish this paper work and call and confirm some photo shoots. Jesus, Sylvie, these were supposed to be done yesterday."

"I-I'm sorry. It's only my second week.." She swallowed, nervously. She ran a hand through her long brown and blonde hair and her boss, Richie, felt the slightest bit sorry.

The poor girl had come to LA wanting to be photographer but the closest she could get was a gig working at Alternative Press magazine as the receptionist.

"Just get them to me as fast you can." He said, looking into her blue eyes. She was a beautiful woman- if you could even call her that. She was only nineteen years old and he knew she was stressed.

"I will. Thank you." She nodded, grabbing the papers and began filling in the information.

It had been a hard transition from New York City to California but she wanted to be a photographer and this was the place to make that happen. She wrote and wrote until her fingers went numb.

Finally, Sylvie was able to take the paper work back Richie. "Thanks Sylvie, good job."

"No problem." She nodded, walking back to her desk.

She began the calls, confirming shoots with countless managers. She despised being stuck behind a desk all day but she didn't know what she wanted her job exactly to be.

Did she want to photograph for magazines? Or websites? Or dancers? Or models? The list went on! But Sylvie knew in her heart that she really wanted to photograph bands and that's what she would do.

Her favorite band of all time was Nirvana but Simple Plan took a close second.

Those boys had become her life and all she wanted was to go on tour with them and shoot them performing. It would be the ultimate dream to just shoot one of their shows.

Richie let her put her cards out on her desk so different bands that came through saw that she was a photographer. No one had called her yet- no one had even taken the card but she remained hopeful.

The door opened and Sylvie looked up to see a group of five guys walk in. She swallowed as she saw how attractive they all were but every head of hair was teased to the heavens. They had tons of makeup on, including full body paint.

"Uhm..hi." One said. He had tan skin and a dark black hair, like all of them. His eyes were a deep chocolate brown.

"Hello, what can I do for you?" Sylvie asked them. Just then, her eyes drifted to the tallest one in the back. His eyes were crystal blue and his skin was creamy but also littered with many tattoos.

He immediately grinned at her, his eyes lighting up the entire room. His grin was cute and lop-sided and Sylvie felt her heart swarm with delight.

"Ah, it's the men of the hour!" She heard Richie yell from his office. He came running to greet the boys and Sylvie returned her eyes back to her computer.

"Oh her? She's just our receptionist, Sylvie. Your photographer is back here." Richie said but the tall man walked back to Sylvie's desk. He picked up her card and smiled again, making her heart pound against her chest.

"Sylvie Chester.." He said, looking up at her.

"Andy, dude?" The tan one said, glancing from her to him. She seemed to look uncomfortable and all the bassist of this band wanted to do was get him away.

"You're a photographer?" The Andy guy asked.

"Yes." Sylvie whispered, looking down at her lap. Why was she so enthralled by a guy she didn't know at all?

"Well, I might give you a call." He winked.

"O-okay." Sylvie blushed, looking away. He was staring at her, taking in her professional looking outfit. She knew he was wondering who was underneath and so was she.

She had no idea anymore.

"Andy, stop flirting and get your ass over here!" Another one of the guys said.

"Coming." Andy laughed, walking back to the group. He kept his eyes on her as he walked back to the studios with Richie.

What just happened?

Sylvie pushed her purse higher on her shoulder as she exited the office. She got her keys out and walked to her tiny car.

The drive home was quick with her music blaring in the background. She arrived at her apartment complex only a mere half hour later which was basically a minute in terms of California traffic.

As she opened the door to her apartment, she smiled at her roommate and best friend, Aaron. They'd moved out together and were inseparable ever since.

"How was work?" The cute pink haired guy asked.

"Boring as usual." Sylvie chuckled. "What about you?"

"Amazing! I gave the cutest hair cut to this adorable little thing!" He gushed, eating a handful of popcorn.

"Yeah, well aren't you lucky?" She plopped down next to him on there white couch. Aaron had completely modeled the apartment besides Sylvie's room and it was so classic she wanted to puke.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He chuckled as she fell down on his lap.

"Not really. Let's just watch Sweeney Todd." She groaned.

"You and that stupid movie." Aaron shook his head. "We're not staying in, it's Friday! Let's go to a party!"

"What parties do you know of?" Sylvie arched her brow.

"I was invited to one today! It's down at the beach.." Aaron winked. "Cute boys will be there!"
"Aaron, you know I'm not ready for that." She mumbled, standing up and grabbing her DVD of Sweeney Todd.

"Yes you are! It's been four months since that Dickface left you! Find a hot guy, fuck him, and move on from him!" Aaron exclaimed.

"I don't know, A.." She said, plopping down after she popped the DVD in.

"Sylvie, do this. For me." He said, pleading with his lower lip puffed out.

She rolled her eyes, "Fine."

"Yay! Get dressed!" He grinned, kissing her cheek.

"Whatever.." She said, laying back as the young sailor boy, Anthony, played across the screen of their TV.

She felt her phone begun to vibrate in her pocket and smiled seeing it was her younger sister.

"Hello?" She asked in a silly voice.

"Hey sis! How is LA treating ya?" The wild sixteen year old asked. She could practically heart the grin through the phone.

"Good. How's VA?" Sylvie said, her heart going light as she thought of her home. She missed it, the trees and changing leaves. LA had nothing on the old country air.

"Boring.." Rayna groaned and Sylvie only laughed. Her sister had no idea how good she had it.

"Can you at least try to enjoy your youth?" Sylvie asked.

"For you, my loving sister. Only for you." Rayna giggled. "I was just calling to check in, I'll talk to you soon!"

"You, too. Love you." Sylvie smiled, tears coming to her eyes.

She missed her family- they accepted her unconditionally and she couldn't wait to see them again.

"Love you, too, Sylv." Rayna hung up after that but Sylvie only laid down on her couch, sadly.

This place didn't feel like home..
