At The Hospital.




I pace back and forth in the waiting room as Juliet is texting on her phone. She's alerting everyone of Lily's situation. We've been here for about three hours and we still haven't heard from a doctor. This has to be my fault, I haven't been able to make time for my babygirl recently. Plus I'm barely there for her in general. So whatever's going on with Lily, it's all my fault.


"Andy calm down, Lily's going to be alright, she's a fighter." Juliet tries to reassure me.

"But what if she's not strong enough? We don't even know what she's fighting from. I just need to see her Jules." I say taking a seat next to her.

"The nurse said we'll have news as soon as there is some." She kisses my cheek.


"The Biersacks?" The doctor asks.

"That's us." I say.

"Come along with me." He says.


We follow him down the main hallway of the hospital to Lily's room. There she lies asleep, dreaming I hope of great things, but I can only hope. I sit on the chair next to her bed and hold her fragile hand in mine. She looks so peaceful. She's been temporarily kicked out from the outside world, but I fear she's kicking and screaming on the inside.


"Mr and Mrs Biersack, Lily, as you can see, has slipped into a coma." The doctor states.

"How did this happen?" Jules asks.

"Well there's many ways she could have, but I believe it's do to the swelling of the brain tissue. It could be a lack of oxygen, electrolyte imbalance, or hormones can cause swelling. Do you two have any idea of what the cause of her coma would be?" Doc asks.

"I told her I was moving to Miami." Juliet says before she starts crying.

"And she could hear us fighting, she always hears us fight." I say.

"So it was most likely a change in hormone levels that caused this." He concludes.

"So what now Doc?" I ask.

"We will get Lily the medication she needs to relieve the swelling, and you two can relax." The doctor leaves the room.

How can I relax when this is all my fault?





Lily's POV


I'm sitting in my pyjamas at the kitchen table. Mom and dad are singing happily along to Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi. Mom places my favourite breakfast on the table. Chocolate chip waffles with whipping cream and soaked in syrup. On top she puts six candles. Dad lights each one with his lucky lighter with my initials curved on it.


"Make a wish Lilypad." Mom whispers.


I blow out the candles and wish that mom and dad wouldn't leave for shows without me anymore. Wishes don't always come true.

What is that noise? A constant thudding echoes through my ears. A searing pain hits my head. What's happening? Why does it hurt so much?
