Free Bird

"Whatcha doing?" CC asks as he plops next to me on the tiny bus couch
"Writing." I say as I pick up the pen and pad in my lap
"Whatcha writing?" Ashley joins in on my left
"Just stuff."
Next thing I know Andy walks passed and picks my pad out of my hands and holds it way above his head, reading it.
"Wow." is all he can say before handing me back my book, "That's really cool."
I sit back on the couch and finish the sketch that goes with it, When I'm done I set it on the table. CC and Ashley look at each other and dive for the notepad. I roll my eyes and get up to get a drink. The first day of Warped Tour was crazy. Fans went nuts over all the merch we had, and when it was almost time for the guys to perform I took my break and stood side stage to support my man. After Andy and Ashley walked back with me to do their meet and greet.
"Babe. This is incredible." Ashley says handing me my notepad.
"Alright Neva, read it. We all want to know." Juliet comments from the front of the bus.

Jess and I. Tag team. Vs. Life.
We fought hard. We supported each other. Life got sneaky.
Jess got a K.O. and I was alone. Our tag team gone, just me.
Me Vs Life. Life Tag teamed with Depression. Anxiety joined their team.
I was all alone. Nobody left in my corner, cheering me on.
Life had me by the throat, Depression ready on the ropes.
I take one last look at my corner.
I see a smile. Blue eyes. A friend.
Joined by another smile. And another.
One by one my corner grew. More smiles, more eyes.
Friends, cheering me on.
I grew stronger. Dodged Depression. Anxiety ran scared.
Now it's just Me Vs Life. Final Round.
Life loses. I win.
I turn to my corner. See all the smiles. Hear all the cheers.
I had beaten Life.



"Holy shit that's deep." Jake says from his bunk
"I love you." Ashley whispers in my ear
"Hey. Maybe you could turn that into a song?" Juliet says coming closer
"That's a great idea Jules," Andy says taking more interest, "Add some music, this part hear could be the chorus. Add in some more words, more detail, and I think we got ourselves a song."
I blush and shake my head, but I have a feeling I will lose this battle.
