Fallen Angel

Our non-date

Abbie and I sat on the blanket and talked about nothing for hours. We had been people watching and trying to make up the other peoples conversations. "Yo man this pot is awesome. Is that a squirrel?" and she would say something like "Duude... you're so stoned! The squirrel ate a nut... haha imagine if it ate your nuts..." "Ouch, man that's not cool." And then we'd bust out laughing. We ended up laying down looking up at the sky and trying to figure out what shapes the clouds made. "I see a bunny..." she said. "Where? I only see clouds. this is stupid." "No look again see that one." she said moving close so she could position my face and pointed. "Okay I see it. " I said looking at he face which was inches from mine. She blushed and pulled away. "Okay so tell me what you see now." she said laying down next to me again resting her head on my arm. I smiled and tried to make the clouds look like something. "Um that one looks like... a motorcycle." She laughed. "Where do you see that?" I pointed at the sky and she followed my finger up. "Oh okay." she giggled again.

She had moved to see the cloud I pointed at and her head was now on my shoulder. "So tell me about you... What's you're family like? Do you have any siblings?" "Well I have an older brother. My parents are dead." she said. She moved away from me and closed off to the world. "Hey." I said trying to pull her out of it. She was starting to scare me. Abbie was scratching her hand and at first I didn't think anything of it but then she sighed and looked at me. Her face turned bright red and she got up. "I'm sorry. I need to leave." she said quickly. "I took her hand in mine and felt the sticky blood on my skin. I looked down. "Abbie... talk to me. I won't leave you." She just shook her head. I was still holding onto her hand so I took a napkin and pressed it to her re-opened cut. "Please abbie?" I begged. I didn't want her to leave.

"I killed my parents." she stated and then ripped her hand from my grasp before getting up. I followed her. "Hey wait. Abbie!" I said pulling her into a hug to stop her. I turned her around in my arms and hugged her tight. "Tell me what happened." I pleaded. "My parents took me to a party and they got too drunk and so they had me drive them home but I was only sixteen and it was raining and I should've died but I didn't and they did because I killed them." she explained in a rush. She didn't cry which made me scared for her. "You didn't kill them, Abbie. You didn't know how to drive and it was raining. I don't want to say anything bad about your parents but they shouldn't have been drinking if they knew they were going to have to drive home. It wasn't your fault." I told her. She sank to the ground so I went down with her pulling her into my lap. She hid her face in the crook of my neck while I stroked her hair. "Thank you." she whispered against my skin. I put my lips to her ear. "Anytime, love. I'm here for you." I told her. She hugged me tighter.

After awhile we went back to the blanket and sat against the tree looking out across campus. She was telling me about school. I nudged her and pointed to the horizon where the sun had started to set. "beautiful.." she said. I looked at her and her face was inches awaya. I put my hand on her cheek as I said "Yes you are, Abbie." That's when she kissed me. I of course kissed her back. She pulled away and smiled at me before hiding her face in my neck. I chuckled and held her close.

It got dark all too quickly. "I guess I should be getting you home?" "My dorm is right over there." she said pointing over to the library. Did she live in the library? We stood up and collected all of the stuff packing the blanket in the basket. I started walking her toward the library. She turned and we walked threw an ally. Behind the library was a village of houses. "This is the senior village. My brother lives in one of the houses because he's a professor. I stay in the apartment." she explained. I walked her to the house her brother stayed in. "Um, so goodnight?" she said unsure. I smiled and kissed her cheek. "night, Abbs." I said before I turned and walked back toward where I parked my car.
