Kenna POV


Mayell was insane. She looked insane too. Like the old cat lady who lived across the street…well she did live there, until she died from eating cat feces. I pushed the thought away as I yawned. Welcoming the morning sun that shown into my room. My sides hurt, there were scares a bruises on them from the poison. I would never let anyone know, but I remembered every single nightmare I had while intoxicated. Those bruises didn’t come from nothing…

I dreamt of never ending hallway, behind every door was some creature that I had never seen. They all left me with scars and mental trauma. One of them spit blood on my face and it started to burn like acid. When I continued to run the beast I had faced the first night I came in contact with the dark forest had scratched my back and left three marks. Everything I had witness in my dreams, every pain, it was real.

“Good morning.” Ashley said.

Chores had become a thing of the past, but I still did cook. Every morning, afternoon, and evening. But I was still their prisoner. Rules still applied and they enforced them harshly. Jake had not said much to me since the incident though.

“Morning.” I groaned. Trying not to show the pain I felt inside of me.

“Sore?” He asked, handing me the vile bottle of ingrediants I still did not know.

I sat up, taking the bottle from Ashley’s hand. I took two deep breaths to prepare for the stuff. I quickly downed everything this morning had to offer and handed it back to Ashley, wiping my mouth with my forearm. He set the empty bottle on the night stand next to me and sat on the end of my bed. Crisscrossing his legs, like he was a teenage girl at her best friend’s house.

I couldn’t help but giggle. “You look like a teenage girl like that.”

He stood up and straightened himself. “I do not!” He pouted.” He brushed himself off. “Anyway, Andy, CC and I are going into the village. Do you need anything?”

I thought about it for a moment. I wanted to say my friends, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I shook my head and finally got out of bed. “I don’t think so.”

He smiled and patted the bed. “Alright, see you at sunset.” He left the room, leaving the door open.

I guessed that Andy was already in the carriage, because I did not see him before he left. I made breakfast for Jake, Jinxx, and myself. I was sent to my room by Jake and ate in solitude. The eggs I had made for myself were a little over done but I ate them all anyway. Once I was finished I took my plate into the kitchen, taking Jakes, and Jinxx’s along the way. I cleaned the few dishes I used, and was later told that Jinxx was leaving. He did not say where, but I feared that he was leaving me with a ticking time bomb. Jake had gone off on a girl that came over once a week. She had long black hair and was quite skinny. I never dared ask her name but she and he seemed like good friends.

Although, she had not been around for quite some time. I heard a knock sound on the giant front door. Due to my past of letting strangers in, I strayed back. Jake walked calmly beside me. “Get to cleaning.” He snapped.

I turned my head down and proceeded to bring out the bucket that had been away for about two weeks. Jake opened the door to a man with very red hair, he looked about Jake’s age. I tried not to see what they were doing. They walked together, laughing, into the party room.

“Kenna!” Jake yelled.

I walked to where they were. “Yes?”

“Go get some wine for my friend and me.” He had an arm over the red headed man.

Without another word I did as he asked. I got the wine and poured it into two glasses. I then brought the bottle of wine, and the glasses, to Jake and the red head. “I’ve been needing a maid so badly. My wife passed recently and the house has been a tremendous mess.” The red head said. He had a raspy voice, much worse than Andy’s.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see that Jake was looking me up and down. They both sat down on the couch as I started to walk away. “Come here, Kenna.” Jake beckoned. I walked to Jake.

He reached out and pulled me close to him. The red head stood and placed a hand under my chin. I turned my head away sharply. “Hey now,” he put his hands up in defense. “I just wanted to see how good you look. I don’t bite.”

My heart was beating like a drum. Threatening to pound right out of my chest. The red head walked around me. I closed my eyes shut, I dare not speak out of place, Jake were send me to the floor with the back of his hand.

“What is this Jake?” I asked.

“How much for her?” The red head asked, ignoring my plea for help.

My eyes widened. Jake looked me up and down once more. I shook my head franticly, unable to get any words out. “500.” Jake said.

“You can’t…” I squeaked.

“I can do whatever I want girl. This will pay your debt in full. You will go with Louis if he so pleases.” Jake stood to be level with me.

I continued to shake my head. “You have yourself a deal old friend.” They shook hands.

At this point I tried to run. I tried to make it for the door that led outside. I heard several footsteps behind me. Arms wrapped tightly around my waist. “You’re gonna have to knock her out.” Jake said, laughing.

I was thrown to the floor, kicking and screaming, begging for Andy to help, for someone to help. When I hit the floor I tried to get to my hands and knees. I felt a hard object hit my head. Falling to the floor my vision started to blur. A back hand to the side of my face sent my world tumbling into darkness.
