Make Me Feel Alive

Pregnant?

"And then Morgan looked like she was about to die," Leah giggled, sitting on Andys couch. She was his, well, his girlfriend but not officially, I suppose. She was little short thing with blonde hair and pretty green eyes. I'd tried to make a move on her when we'd all first met, but she only had eyes for Andy.
And he'd probably break my hand if I made a move now, despite they weren't official. They're whole friends with benefits thing would only last them so long as jealous as the two of them got at each other.
"Is she feeling better?" Andy asked her, absently playing with her hair.
"I hope so. She's been sick every morning this week," Leah shook her head. "I'm thinking she probably has the flu."
"This is the receptionist, right?" Andy glanced at me.
The band had practically flipped on me when twitter had exploded with me amd Morgans pictures together. They'd demanded to know who she was, but I'd blown them off.
She wasn't my girlfriend, I didn't do that.
And I hadn't talked to her any since last Tuesday. Admittedly, I was avoiding her, amd she'd only called once during that span of time, but I hadn't amswered. Her little girlfriend comment had stung a little, though I would never admit that.
Plus if I didn't talk to her or have mind-blowing sex, then no one could say we were together.
"Yeah. She didn't even come to work today, which is weird for her." Leah frowned in concern.
"Is it just in the morning?" Andy questioned, and I glared at him from the other couch.
"She seemed okay later on, so I dunno," she shrugged, and then wrinkled her nose. "I hope she isn't pregnant or anything. Her boyfriend is a real twat."
What?
"What boyfriend?" I snapped, and they both turned to look at me.
"The guy she's been dating forever." she explained. "He came in yesterday looking for her, but she wouldn't see him. Maybe they broke up, I dunno. Morgan doesn't like to share her private life with anyone."
That tool Trevor.
That had been the day she called me, I bet.
Now I felt kind of guilty.
And she hadn't slept with him in a while, only me.
Oh fuck.
OH FUCK.
I abruptly shot to my feet.
"Ash?" Andy asked in alarm as I jerked my jacket on, staggering toward the door.
"I gotta go!"
An hour later, I was running up the steps into Morgans building. What if she was pregnant?
That would be an absolute freaking disaster.
And knowing her, if she was mad at me, she'd never tell me.
If she even knew herself.
Which was why she was gonna have to take all ten of the pregnancy tests I bought.
The cashier had just looked at me when I piled them on the counter. I hadn't known which ones were good, so in a panic I'd gotten one of each.
I made it to her floor and then I was at her door, pounding on it.
"Morgan!"
I kept hitting the door until I heard her yell at Toby, and then I heard the door unlock.
She looked at me blearily, not wearing her glasses and having to squint at me.
"Ashley?" she croaked. "What are you doing here?"
"Are you sick?" I demanded, forcing my way into her apartment.
"I think so. What afe you doing here?"
"I tried to call, I wanted to check on you." I glanced around the apartment, seeing the black bags with all the clothes I'd gotten her under the windows, Tobys tutu on the coffee table.
There was two boxes of tissues there as well, but I didn't know if it was from a runny nose or crying because she realized she was pregnant and I was a total prick.
I looked at her anxiously.
She was in pajamas, her haid clean but messy, and her nose and eyes looked swollen.
"So are you sick? Do you have the flu? I brought medicine," I lifted the plastic bag in my hand. "Are you sure its the flu?"
"Wha..?" she frowned at me, sniffling. "It's a cold, is all. It's not a big deal."
"Are you sure?" I pressured. "It's not... Morning sickness is it?"
"What? Ashley, no, I'm not pregnant." she shook her head.
"How can you be sure? Have you taken a test?"
She glared at me.
"No, I haven't. But ---."
"Take one!" I ordered, thrusting the bag into her arms.
She looked at me in confusion, then through the contents of the bag.
"Really, Ashley?"
"It's the only way to know." I pushed her towards the bathroom. "Go check!"
"I'm not pregnant, I have a cold ---."
"Just fucking check!" I snapped at her, and she stiffened.
"Fine!" she stalked to the bathroom, slamming the door behind her and causing Toby to flick his ears, disgruntled.
I paced the apartment worriedly.
What if she was? I didn't want kids!
Hell, Tokyo and Killer were enough responsibility for me!
I glanced at the door.
I wouldn't make her raise it on her own, though.
I paused in the kitchen, gazing around blindly as I waited. The place was looking a little sparse. I opened her fridge, and grimaced.
Two diet sodas and a jug of milk two weeks out of date.
And some cheese.
Why had she not gotten groceries?
I whirled around in aggravation.
What was taking so long?
I paused by the counter, glancing down at the mail sprawled across it.
I frowned, lifting a bill up for fifty grand.
Jesus, how did she owe so much?
Student loans.
Oh.
She had two other bills, and all together they totalled ninety thousand dollars. They were wanting her to make excessively high payments, too.
There was no way she could afford to pay these on a secretary's income.
The bills dropped from my hands, immediately forgotten as I heard her unlock the door. I stepped towards her.
"Here," she hissed, tossing the test at me.
I stared down at it blankly.
What did that mean?
I looked at her pissed off face.
"I'm not pregnant, I told you!" she put her hands on her hips. "And that's the only reason you came over here, isn't it? You wanted to make sure your life wasn't ruined by a kid! Not because you heard I was sick!"
"I ---."
"Don't lie to me! You've been ignoring me since last weekend, and I don't know why!"
"I haven't been ignoring you! I've been busy," I told her defensively. "You're not my girlfriend, remember? I don't have to answer to your every beck and call!"
She glared at me, and hastily mopped at her face. "Just get out."
"What?" I stared at her.
"Get out of my apartment! I don't want to see you anymore."
"Wait, Morgan ---." I hadn't meant to piss her off that much.
She shook her head, backing me toward the door.
"I don't want to see you anymore! You're so selfish and childish!" she was shouting at me.
God, ask a woman if she's pregnant and she freaks out.
"Morgan ---." She was just sick, not in her right mind, I doubted she meant it.
"Out!" she shrilled, and shoved me through the doorway.
I turned, but she slammed the door in my face, the sound echoing down the hallway.
I stood there in shock.
She had just kicked me out.
"Wow, man, you fucked up," a kid commented as he walked by, keys jingling as he went to his own apartment.
I had, hadn't I?
But I did care.
I had come here with intentions of checking on her, not just because I thought she might be carrying my offspring. I'd brought medicine!
I stood there a moment, unable to believe that had just happened.
Does this mean we're over? Did she break up with me?
No, I scowled. We weren't even together.
I'll let her cool off, I told myself, slowly turning away. I'll call her tomorrow. I'll make up for this.

Notes

Well, THAT definitely didnt go as Ashley would have liked, hmm?
