Make Me Feel Alive

"Hey," I said brightly as Ashley answered my call.
"Hey, " I heard him shuffling, "what's up?"
I hated to do this so bad.
"It's about Saturday," I started.
"Oh, right! What do you wanna do? I was thinking something like dinner, amd then maybe we could watch something at my place, " he got the tone.
That tone nearly made me change my mind. The tone that promised some night time pleasure I wanted to invite him over right now. And for us to not be going on a date, it sounded so suspiciously like one I almost told him so.
"None of your fucking business!" I heard him suddenly call, and my mouth snapped shut.
"What?"
"Not you. I have some of the guys over," he sighed. "So does that sound good? or I know this great club downtown we could go too."
"Club sounds nice," I said quickly.
He had good quality tastes when it came to food, so I probably couldn't afford a restaurant.
But a club, there was maybe an entrance fee and whatever I wanted to drink. I coud do a club.
"Cool." Ashley sounded more excited over that then he had the dinner anyway. "I'll grab you at seven then?"
"Sounds like a plan."
This was not what my initial plan had been.
Why did I lose my nerve?
Oh, the tone.
He'd broke with me a simple suggestive tone.
Where the hell had my self control gone?
