Make Me Feel Alive

I Need Sleep

I scurried outside a little after five, withholding a yawn as I did. I heard a car horn and turned, seeing Ashleys car pulling up beside me. I glanced at the traffic, then hurried around and slipped into the passenger side.
"Hey, babe, how was work?" he asked brightly, and I yawned again.
"Good, nothing too extreme usually about answering the phone."
Ashley shot me a grin.
"So how was... Whatever is is you do during the day?" I honestly had no idea.
He smirked. "It was good. So watcha wanna eat?"
"It doesn't matter. I could literally eat anything right now. Food wise," I added when he started to speak, and he chuckled.
"Well, Chick Fil'A sound good?"
"Amazing."

I was starving to death by the time we made it to my apartment and herded Toby into the bedroom; that cat loved chicken probably better then any other food I had ever fed him.
And the look he sent Ashley could have killed.
I chuckled, and fumbled around in the couch cushions as he sat our food on the counter; it made me feel better that I had paid for half of it.
"Oh, here it is!" I pulled his phone out of the couch, and handed it to him. "I think I have a charger for it if you need."
"Yeah, I think I do," he said as he turned it on, and handed it back to me. "Charge away, Venus."
"Venus?" I asked as I stepped into my room, plugging up the phone.
"Yeah! You got legs like a goddess, and aphrodite seemed too long of a nickname."
I snorted. And here I had been comparing him to Adonis.
I traveled over to the counter where the food waited, eagerly finding my mouthwatering chicken nuggets and the amazing fries with the good sauce and the drink that I didn't have to pour myself.
"Okay," Ashley plopped down on the couch beside me, propping his feet on the coffee table; I never had bought a table or chairs for the apartment. I sat indian style beside him, and reached forward to turn on my laptop.
"Nothing scary, right?"
"Right," I smiled, and turned on a random comedy movie I had starred. I stretched my legs out, kicking my boots off and throwing my legs over the arm of the couch. I stifled a yawn as I finished eating, and shuffled to my feet, knowing if I didn't get Tobys food ready I would forget.
"How old is your demon spawn anyway?" Ashley asked, watching me from the couch.
"Um, two, I think."
"Has he always been so... Evil?"
I smiled, and nodded. "Ever since he was a kitten. You can only have one animal here, and when my moms cat died the apartment felt so empty so I got Toby."
"Oh. Why did you have your moms cat?"
I turned, putting the cat food up. "My mom died, so someone had to take care of her."
"Oh, sorry."
I just sent him a smile, and curled back up on the couch, pulling a cat-scratched pillow into my lap.
"What about your dad?" he asked, his arms sprawled across the back of the couch, one hand playing with my hair.
"Um, I never knew him. He bailed when my mom got pregnant," I shrugged. "It was always just me and her."
"Well, I'm assuming you took after your mom," he tugged lightly at my hair.
I chuckled. "I look just like her, actually, she just had blue eyes."
"My grandparents raised me," he said after a moment. "My parents died in a car accident when I was young. So I know it's not easy, especially when you're off on your own."
Oh. I looked over at him, but he was watching the movie. I hesitated, then reached over and patted his knee lightly.
"It always gets better," I gave him a smile. "You're proof of that, Mr. Rockstar."
Ashley sent me a grin. "I'm actually surprised you never went all fangirl on me."
"Well, to be honest, I didn't know who you were when we first met." I admitted, a little embarrassed. "I might work for a studio but I still have no idea who anyone is."
"Hey, that's actually a plus. Do you have any idea how nice it is to go places and not be recognized? Especially out here?" he shook his head. "It's so hard to even get a coffee these days."
"I don't doubt it," I shrugged, leaning my head back against the couch. I was so tired.
Ashley suddenly chuckled, and I lolled my head to look at him. He was so nice to look at. And he was actually nice. The woman I'd asked at work had nearly fainted when she learned he'd been in the studio, and then had babbled to my ear about random facts she knew, including the womanizing part, but he didn't believe in relationships, and I didn't blame him.
Nothing lasted forever.
Ashley nudged me, and I blinked, realizing I had started to doze off.
"I'd probably better get going."
I yawned, and nodded, getting to my feet. Ashley grabbed his phone out of my room, allowing Toby freedom, and wandered back to the door. "Sooo I'll see you Saturday?"
"Yep," I forced a smile; it was all I could do to stand now. Ashley shook his head, and pulled me to him, giving me a quick kiss.
"I'll call you later," he brushed my hair out of my face. "And next time we'll have to keep ourselves to the weekend, huh?"
"Yes." I nodded, my head pressed against his chest. "I need sleep."
He chuckled, and pressed a kiss into my hair.
I leaned my head back, and gave him a smile. "See you later."
