My Reality

We enter the apartment and sit in the dining room area.

"You willing to give us a chance?" Sam asks fiddling his thumbs.

"No, I want out." I say and he looks up at me.

"I paid five thousand dollars for you and your love, I'm not giving up on it all." He says leaning back in his seat.

"But what if I don't love you, what if I've fallen for someone else?" I ask playing with strands of my hair.

"Who? Is it that Slenderman you had talk to me on Monday?"

"No," of course I'm lying, he'd killed Andy on the spot. "Look, I just feel that we've grown apart."

"Just be honest with me, and tell me how much you hate me. We both know you do so let's get this shouting over with."

"What can I say? We both know what you did to me so why should I have to say it?"

"Because you've been keeping it in and I'm ready to hear what you have to say."

"Fine then. You hurt me more than words can describe. Because of you I have scars and I can't ever fully trust anyone again. You made me hate myself. I thought I wasn't good enough for you; but now, and this may sound conceited, but you're not good enough for me." I say with no emotion.

"Seeing as I knew you'd say something like that last sentence, that's why I bought a second chance with you. I want you back and not just for sex, I want your dorky little giggle, those big blue eyes, your perception of the world. I want it all."

"The most you'll get from me is a hug and patience."

"It's a start."

"So what's the sleeping arrangements? I'm not sleeping in the same bed as you."

"There's no extra bedroom and as you can see I don't have a couch. So you kind of have to sleep in the same bed as me." He says with a smirk.

"Whatever, I have to get started on my homework." I take out my math textbook and get started. I finished the math and get started on my poem for English. I take out my notebook and start writing.

*Thumps,

I put away my notebook and look around the apartment. Sam went to the bedroom to take a nap. I go through the fridge. There's no real food in there, there's just alcohol and ketchup. I shrug and look through the cabinets. There's dishes and glasses but no food whatsoever. Do he eat take out like every night? I grab a napkin and my pen.

*Tomorrow I'm taking you grocery shopping*

I leave the note on the dining room table and grab my phone. I dial my mother's number. She picks up.

"Hey, now's not a good time." She says making me concerned.

"Is dad being violent?" I ask.

"Yes." She utters.

"Hold on." I put her on hold and do something I didn't have the balls to do for a long time, I call 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" The lady asks.

"My mom, she's in real danger. My dad's going to hurt her, please send help." I say.

"Okay so what's your name?"

"Scarlet Kanes. Go help her she's at 64 Newton Avenue, hurry!" I say and hang up on her. I go back to my mom. "Momma, you there?" I ask. No answer. I hang up the phone and sob in the bathroom.

I haven't gotten a call back and it's been an hour. I sigh and walk out of the apartment. I walk down to Andy's building and slip in as someone exits. I go up to his apartment door and knock. Juliet opens it and is shocked to see me.

"Honey why are you crying?" She asks, she's so nurturing.

"Is Andy here?" I ask, sniffling a bit.

"No but do you want to talk?" She asks and I nod stepping in.

"Jules who's here?" A woman asks from the other room.

"Sammi, Ella, come out to the living room." Juliet says and sits me down. Sammi and Ella walk out and look just as I dreamt they would.

"What's your name?" Sammi asks.

"Why are you crying?" Ella asks as if she's about to start bawling her eyes out herself.

"My dad, he hurts my mom and me. I moved in with a friend recently and haven't been able to keep an eye on her. I called her an hour ago. He was going to hurt her so I called the police and I haven't heard anything since." I say and the three women squeeze me in a hug.

I hear the door close. "Wow, what's going on in here?" We look up to see Andy, Ashley, CC, Jinxx, and Jake. Jake being the one to ask the question. I get up and run to their bathroom. I lock the door and listen as they whisper to each other.

"Why is Scarlet Kanes in this apartment?" Jinxx asks.

"She said she was looking for Andy." Juliet says.

"Why is she crying?" CC asks.

"Her dad beats her mom, she called the cops an hour ago and hasn't heard anything since." Sammi says.

"I'll go talk to her." Andy says and I hear his foot steps as he walks up to the door. I unlock the door, let him in and lock it behind him. I hug him and cry into his chest. "Shh, it's okay, I'm sure everything's fine."

"You don't know how bad he can get." I say. I back up from him and take off my shirt. I point to the long scar on my rib cage. "He did this. And much worse to me." I put my shirt back on and sit on the floor. "I just wish they would tell me if she's okay."

He kneels down next to me. "You just need to stop thinking about the worst. I'm sure she's okay, I don't usually say this but we need to get you drunk." He says and I look at him.

"What?" I ask with a little chuckle at the end.

"Have a few drinks with me."

"It's going to take more than a few."

"Alright, let's get you up."

He helps me up and we walk out together.
