No One Does It Better

Chapter Forty

It was the day of the wedding. I was standing in Juliet's dressing room, staring at myself in the mirror as she put her dress on. I turned around and smiled at her.

"It's gorgeous, Julie!" I exclaimed as my eyes filled with tears. I grabbed a tissue, and I dabbled under my eyes.

"It is, isn't it!? And that dress is gorgeous too! I really made a good choice, didn't I?" She asked, pointing to the dress I had yet to put on. I smiled and nodded. There was a knock on the door, and I opened it, meeting Ashley's eyes. I let him in, and he pecked my lips. He approached Juliet, and he gave her a quick hug.

"You excited?" He asked her.

"Yeah. Nervous too. How's Andy?" She asked, looking concerned.

"He's fine. A little nervous, but he'll be fine. Do you need anything to drink?" Ashley asked her. She nodded.

"Yeah. Just get me some wine," she said with a little nod.

"Red or white?"

"White." Ashley nodded and left.

"I should probably get dressed," I said, and Juliet nodded as she turned and grabbed her eyeliner. I approached my dress, and I took it off its hanger. I layed it on the bed, and I slipped my converse off, along with my socks. I quickly undressed and pulled the dress on, and I had Juliet tie the back of it just as Ashley returned with her glass of wine. She took it gratefully, and the back of my dress fell slack.

"Ashy, can you tie this for me?" I asked, turning around so he could see. He did as I asked, and when he was done, I turned and kissed him.

"Thank you baby," I said. He smiled.

"All right. I'll see you at the ceremony in a bit. I love you, Audrey," Ashley said.

"I love you too, Ashley," I said gently, and he kissed me goodbye. He left, and I sighed as I grabbed my shoes out of my suitcase. I slipped the heels on, and I fixed my own makeup in the mirror as Juliet continued to do hers after taking another sip of wine.

~~

It was time for the ceremony. Ashley and I would be first to walk down the aisle, and I was excited. It would be practice. We locked arms, and the doors opened, and there was music playing, and Ashley and I started walking. We reached the altar where Andy was waiting, and we departed to stand across from each other. Next was CC, and then Jake and Ella, and then Jinxx.

For several minutes, we waited for Juliet, but she never showed. Andy was becoming more nervous by the minute, and I was worried. I looked at Ashley, who looked back at me, whose expression mirrored my own.

Juliet's father ran into the room, his brow sweaty, and I knew something was wrong.

"I need Audrey, please," he gasped, and I stepped down and quickly approached him. He pulled me up to Juliet's room, and he shoved the door open. The room was empty.

"Where is she!?" I exclaimed, looking at her dad.

"I don't know! I came up here to get her and she was gone!" He exclaimed.

"Fuck. Andy is gonna be so upset," I muttered. My eyes scanned the room.once more, and I spotted a note over by the window. I rushed over and picked it up, and I read it.

"She left. She couldn't go through with the wedding," I said. Her father looked disappointed. He beckoned me out, and I followed him out, closing the letter back up. We returned to the ceremony, and I approached Andy up at the altar, and I handed him the note. My eyes filled with warm tears as he read the note, his face distorting into a look of guilt and sadness.

"Andy," I said softly as he sat down on the step. I knelt down beside him, looking up into Ashley's eyes. He knelt down as well, and he pat his friend on the back.

"Everything's gonna be okay," I said with a sniff. I wrapped an arm around my cousin's shoulders as tears fell from his eyes.

"This is all my fault. If I hadn't suggested to get married sooner, she wouldn't have left," he said.

"The ceremony is over. Everyone please leave," Juliet's dad announced, and then everyone got up and left. Ashley lifted Andy up, and we all followed the both of them out of the room. I walked next to CC, and I looked up at him.

"Man.. this sucks," he said, and I nodded.

"Yeah. It does," I agreed.

~~

"Should we tell them?" I asked Ashley on our way out of the hotel the next day.

"Are you sure you want to?" He asked.

"Tell us what?" CC asked from behind us, making me jump a little. We stopped walking and turned around to see the guys and Ella behind us. Andy was sulking in the back, and I bit my lip and cleared my throat.

"Umm... we have an announcement. I essentially wanted to wait a while after the wedding, but I guess we could tell you to lift your moods," I said. Ashley smiled down at me and squeezed my hand.

"Spit it out," Andy said.

"We're gonna have a baby."
