Escaping Grace

Calling Dr. Love

I hesitated, and then bundled my wet clothes together and took a deep breath.
Don't freak out, I told myself, and opened the door.
I glanced around, seeing Andy was rifling through his fridge, so I took off down the hall. I stepped over to his dryer, and tossed all my clothes in.
I quickly turned it on, and then pursed my lips. I turned and walked back down the hall, rubbing my arms. I had been warm earlier but now I felt chilly.
I stepped back into the living room and stood awkwardly a moment, unsure what to do.
Andy turned from his fridge, and sent me a half smile. "Well, I guess we're not swapping clothes any time soon," he said, and I smiled.
I walked over to the counter where he stood, and he pushed a glass over to me. "What is that?" I asked, taking it. I sniffed of it.
"That is a little concoction of my exs," he said, and took a long drink of beer. I stared at him a moment.
"What...?"
"You don't look like much of a drinker, and I figured you'd be cold. THAT concoction will warm you up."
I sipped it.
I could taste the alcohol, but the rest of it was strawberry and tasted amazing. "Okay, this is actually good," I said in surprise.
"Why do you know how to make this?"
"Ex. She always got me to make them for her," he shrugged, turning away. He downed his beer and tossed the bottle in the trash. He grabbed another one from the fridge and tossed himself onto his couch, sprawling out.
I sipped the drink again, and then hesitantly walked to the other couch. I sat down, cradling the glass in my hand. I glanced at his games.
"Yeah, I don't play much," Andy straightened. "CC is more into it then I am."
" Maybe you've just not played the right ones," I said, walking to the coffee table. I picked through them gingerly, and grinned.
"Rock band? I bet you're great at it."
He grinned, and took the game from me. "Are you?"
"No," I flushed. "I'm awful at the instruments."
"Well you're not exactly the drummer in your own band," he replied with a grin. "Come on." he said, and stepped over to the consoles. He turned on the TV and popped the game in, and I stared at him. Was he serious? We were going to play rock band? He'd had too much to drink.
"What do you want to sing too?" he asked, flicking through the music.
This was ridiculous.
"Um, I'd rather not," I said after a moment, blushing. His voice was so deep and perfect, I didn't want to embarrass myself if I messed up.
"Why not? You're obviously good," he looked at me curiously. "You're not shy are you?"
"No," I said quickly, and then downed what was left of my drink. He smirked, and then picked a song by Kiss.
"Calling Dr. Love?" I blinked. The lyrics started across the screen.

You need my love baby, oh so bad
You're not the only one I've ever had
And if I say I wanna set you free
Don't you know you'll be in misery
Andy sang softly, and I stared at him.

Now this is what just made everything about tonight okay.
