Escaping Grace

Confidence

I peered out the curtain, seeing a mass of people. Their faces started to swim before my eyes. We had never played in front of so many people before.
I started chewing my lip nervously.
"You're on in five," one of the stage people told us, and I nodded. I looked at Vale, and she sent me a dazzling smile. "Don't worry, Leah. We're gonna blow them away. Andy and them will want us to open for them all the time!"
I hoped so. I looked back out at the crowd.
Please, I prayed, let us do well.
Clarke took my hand with a knowing smile, and offered his to Vale. She pulled Nate away from one of the girls he was trying to flirt with and glared at him. He fixed his shirt and then took my offered hand.
We stood in a circle and bowed our heads.
"Please let us do well today," I said softly, "and not make any mistakes. Thank you so much for this opportunity."
"And keep us safe during our act," Vale added.
After another moment, we released each other.
"We're going to blow them away," Vale said, hands on her hips. She looked the vision of confidence. I smiled and nodded.
"You guys ready?" the stage guy popped back up, and we nodded hastily. "Good. You're on," he pulled the curtain back, and we took the stage, the crowd coming to life.
The lights were blinding, and as I stepped to the mic, I felt a swell of confidence rush over my worry.
I could do this, I totally could.
I grinned at the crowd.
Vale sent her fingers strumming down her guitar, and Nate hit the drums, erupting in a boom that began the concert.
I grabbed the mic.
