Hide Your Heart

A Slap To The Face

Mae and Andy walked hand in hand into their last class of the day. Chris drove himself and everyone else so they had a quiet ride to school. It was Friday, the day before the show and Mae hadn't gone to anymore rehearsals. Andy was begging her to come tonight but she was stubborn. Chris and Mark had been mean and she wasn't ready to face that.

It was bad enough she had to at school..

Mae loved her last block, photography, because it was the only one her and Andy had alone. Jacob wasn't in it and neither were any of Andy's friends.

Jacob had been avoiding her all week like the plague. She was heart broken at his actions but she got it. She was just so upset that he was so shallow.

Time went by fast and she found herself walking outside of the school towards Andy's car.

"Maybe our parents could meet tonight?" Mae asked as they jumped in the old Nissan.

"Good idea." He smiled, "They could come over after the band practice you're coming too."

"Very funny." She muttered, picking at her nail. Andy couldn't help but notice this habit as she did it all the time.

"Babe.." He shook his head, as he backed out of the parking space. "Your welcome and I want you to come."

"I know." She whispered. "But your the only one." He bit his lip ring and ran a hand through his hair.

The rest of the ride was silent until Andy pulled in front their houses. Mae got out of the car, taking her bag with her. Andy got right after her and before she could storm into her house he grabbed her arm.

"Can we not be mad at each other?" He asked, his eyes pleading.

"I'm not mad at you, babe." She shook her head as he took her hands.

"But you're upset.." He mumbled. She ran a hand through his long black hair. She leaned up to kiss his soft lips.

"And I'll be okay." She promised. "But sleep calls me now, my dear. I'll tell my parents we're having guests over tonight. You tell your's."

"Alright." He chuckled, kissing her once more. "I like you."

"I like your lips." She giggled before walking into her house. Both of her parents were home, sitting in the kitchen with loud music playing. Both had beers in their hands and Mae smiled.

This was a regular occurrence for the Wingfields. They all sat around and listened to music for most of the night. It was ridiculously fun.

"Hey!" They turned the music down and looked at Mae, "We have company coming over tonight so cool it with the beers!"

"Ooh! Is it boyfriend and parents?" Allison asked her daughter with a smirk.

"Yes! Now, I'm ordering pizza!" Mae grinned. Kaya came flouncing down the stairs and smiled at her family.

"Friday night jam session!?" She exclaimed.

"That's it girl!" Jason grinned, taking a long swig of his beer.

"All of you.." Mae pointed at everyone. "Be on your best behaviors."

"Mae's boyfriend and family are coming." Allison smirked at Kaya.

"Oh fun." Kaya grinned, rubbing her hands together.

"Kaya.." Mae warned.

"Chill out!" Kaya laughed, "We'll be fine."

"You better be." Mae chuckled. "Call me when their here!" She said, walking upstairs to order pizza.

"Hey guys, come in!" Mae smiled as she opened the door for the Biersack's. Andy's hair was freshly straightened and he had on his infamous leather jacket and a black wife beater with ripped up black jeans that had seen better days.

"Thank you love." Amy said, walking in the nice home. She could hear music playing loudly and it was country- something that never happened in the Biersack household.

Chris and Andy followed. Mae leaned up and kissed Andy quickly. "How was practice?" She asked.

"Stressful." He sighed, rubbing his head. She frowned and took his hand.

"It's my fault isn't it?" She asked. He looked down at her with sorrowful eyes.

"My friends are stupid Mae." He said, watching their families interact. They already seemed to be getting along.

"Or maybe it's me.." She sighed. He shook his head and drew her in for a long hug.

"It's not you." He kissed her cheek. "It's me for picking judgemental people to be in my band."

She chuckled, "It'll be alright."

"I know." He smiled. She pulled him into the kitchen where everyone was. Two boxes of pizza lined the counter and Chris and Jason were already drinking together.

Amy and Allison had seemed to bond over China in the kitchen. "Hey Andy, come meet your future father in law!" Andy laughed and looked down at Mae who only shrugged.

"Hi, I'm Jason Wingfield." Mae's father said, extending his hand. Andy shook it softly.

"Andy Biersack." He said, nodding his head. Mae's arm wrapped around his waist.

"Come meet my mom." She said, pulling him towards her. "Hey mom, this is Andy."

"Oh hello, Allison Wingfield." She smiled at him.

"Nice to meet you." He grinned. Mae's family seemed awesome and he was happy to get to live so close to them.

"I'm starving." Mae groaned, walking over to the pizza. "Let's eat everybody!"

Everyone filled their plates before moving outside and sitting on the back deck. It was a little chilly, so Mae took Andy's coat from him and leaned into his side as they all ate.

"Andy, what are your tattoos?" Jason asked the young man. He was pretty sure he was only seventeen and he seemed to have a few already.

"Uh, Alkaline Trio, Misfits, and a Batman one on my wrist here." He smiled.

"Where did you get them from?" Allison asked.

Andy glanced at his parents who only nodded, "Alkaline was for Christmas, Misfits was for my sixteenth birthday, and Batman was for my seventeenth birthday."

"Oh wow. Did they hurt?" Allison raised her brow.

"A little bit. Around the bones." He chuckled as Mae began tracing the Misfits skull. Her head
rested against his shoulder and he sighed in content.

"Well you two make a pretty couple, right guys?" Kaya grinned. Everyone nodded in agreement. The conversation started up again with the families bonding over absolutely everything.

Laughter shook all of them to the very core as they listened to old stories and just had a great time.

"When Andy was a boy he used to play hockey. He was really great, he even got drafted by the youth hockey league." Chris said, smiling at his son.

"Mae was a soccer player." Jason chuckled. "She played for years."

"Aw, really!?" Andy grinned, rubbing her arm.

"Yeah! She was great but then it became all about music." Allison smiled.

"Sounds like your talking about Andy." Amy grinned.

"Yeah, yeah!" Kaya laughed, "We all know how perfect they are for each other." She grinned at her sister, making Mae blush.

Eventually, everyone went back inside and dispersed to have their own conversations. Mae and Andy made their way upstairs to her bedroom.

Andy flopped down on her bed making Mae laugh. She laid next to him and curled into his side. His arms wrapped tightly around her and she smiled at the feeling. "What are you doing after high school?" She asked, her chin resting on his chest as she looked up at him.

Andy looked up at the ceiling and bit his lip ring. "Uhm.." He sighed.

"What?" She raised her brow. He ran a hand though his hair.

"Mae, we talked about something today in rehearsal." He said, finally meeting her gaze.

"And?" She whispered, her hand drifting down to grab his.

"We're probably going to drop out." He said.

Mae felt her heart stop.

She yanked away from his arms and he sighed.

"Mae, please don't be upset with me." He said, sitting up and taking her hands. Tears had already pushed to her eyes and she just ripped their hands apart again.

"Don't get upset!? Your going to leave me!" She exclaimed.

"Mae.." He shook his head.

"Andy, I thought you really liked me. I thought I actually had a chance for this to last.." A sob escaped her throat and she stood up and walked to her window.

"You didn't let me finish." He whispered, looking down at his legs. "I want you to drop out and come to Los Angeles with us."

Mae let out an exasperated laugh. "Do you think that's just going to happen!? Do you honestly think I'll be able to convince my parents to let me drop out of high school and move to LA with a boy I started dating a week ago!? Stop thinking out of your heart, Andy. This isn't some movie."

She opened up her window and climbed out onto the roof. Was he insane? Fucking LA!

A few tears slipped out of her eyes and on to her porcelain cheeks.

"Mae Lilly.." Andy whispered, climbing out next to her. He wrapped his arm around her boney shoulder as she cried. "It's not now, later on. Maybe sometime after Christmas or New Years."

"You want me to drop out?" She sniffled, looking up at him.

"Get your GED." He whispered. "You want to be a musician and so do I. This is our best chance."

"My parents will say no."

"You turn eighteen two days after me." He said. Mae looked down at her legs, and blew out a sigh.

"I need time to think about this." She whispered. "I can't commit yet."

"Alright." He said, taking her chin in his hand so she looked at him. "I like your lips?" He said, unsurely, biting his lip. Mae let out a loud laugh and she leaned into kiss him.

"I like you." She mumbled against his mouth. Andy leaned back on her roof and pulled her into his chest. His eyes drifted up to look at the stars and he let out breath. It was freezing but as long as Mae was warm he didn't mind. "You're shivering."

"I know." He chuckled, snuggling his face into her neck. She buried further into his chest, feeling happy and warm.

"Want your jacket back?" She asked.

"Nah." He smiled. "You're pretty warm." She giggled and laid her head on his shoulder.

"You too." She said, biting her lip.

Mae couldn't ignore that nagging feeling in her stomach. Dropping out?

Was that really the right decision?

She didn't think so.
