Hide Your Heart

"So what should we name her?" Mae asked as Andy and her jumped into his old Nissan. She had a fat, white, fluffy cat gathered in her arms after Andy and her's trip to the animal shelter.

They were happy to have someone adopt the animal since she couldn't see out of her left eye.

"Ole' one eye." Andy laughed as Mae swatted his arm and scratched the cats head.

"That's so insensitive! I knew I was doing the right thing letting Kaya be your friend instead of me!" She exclaimed.

He groaned, "Don't remind me."

"Oh everything isn't so perfect in the land of Andy and Kaya?" She smirked.

"To her it is. To me, I'm tired of her constantly hanging on me." He shook his head.

"You should talk to her. I think she really likes you so.." Mae pursed her lips and smiled down at her new cat. She hoped her parents wouldn't mind but since they already had a few animals she knew they wouldn't be mad.

"Maybe, but I'm not sure she's who I have feelings for." He mumbled, more to himself than Mae but she had heard. A sinking feeling fell against her gut and she tried to shake it off.

Commitment had always been scary for Mae.

"So what about...Frida!" She exclaimed, kissing the cats nose.

"That's cute." Andy smirked but he was talking more about her rather than the cat.

"Then Frida it is." She smiled at him. Frida purred as she ran her fingers through her fur.

The rest of the ride was decently silent, the only time either of them spoke was when Andy turned on some music. It was only seven when Andy pulled into his driveway and he was a little afraid to leave Mae alone. She was really sad and he cared too much to let her go home and hurt herself.

"Want to come up to my room? We can have a little cat play date." He chuckled. She nodded at him and the pair got out of his old car. She grabbed her bag with Frida's food and litter, before following after him inside of his home. "Mom, dad! I'm home!"

Suddenly, a short woman with shoulder length, blonde hair and pretty blue eyes came into view. Next, a larger built man with tattoos and no hair showed up behind her. "Hi! Are you Kaya?" Andy cleared his throat and shook his head.

"No mom, this is Mae." He said, his eyes widening.

"Oh, well nice to meet you dear. I'm Amy." She smiled.

"And I'm Chris." The other man said.

"And we're the Biersack's!" Andy sang jokingly. He chuckled as his father shoved his shoulder, lightly.

"Your a dork, boy." Chris laughed.

"Who is this little kitty?" Amy asked, scratching behind Frida's ear.

"Mae just adopted her and I thought Crow would like a play date." Andy smiled.

"Cute. What's her name?" Amy smiled.

"Frida." Mae said.

"Awh, well you two have fun." Amy winked, making Andy groan

"Come on, Mae." He said, walking up the stairs to his room. She followed after him and smiled as he opened the door.

The walls were a dark blue and covered with various posters. Some were of his obvious favorite superhero, Batman. Others were of different bands and in the corner she saw an acoustic guitar and a bass.

She let Frida down at her feet and walked over to his guitars. She picked up the old acoustic and smiled.

"You play?" She asked.

"Oh that old thing? Haven't played it in years. I'm the singer of our band and when I write I don't use a guitar." He said, sitting down next to her on his bed.

"I can tell.." She said, strumming it. "It's really out of tune." She quickly fixed it to standard tuning and began playing a soft tune.

"It sounds good now." He smiled, and she looked up at him. His hand was resting on the bed space behind her and she could feel his forearm on her back.

He leaned closer to her so their noses were touching and her heartbeat escalated. His eyes fluttered closed as did her's and just as their lips almost touched Mae almost jumped out of her skin.

"Andy!" He yanked back at the sound of his mother coming in his room. "Is Mae staying for dinner?"

"Uh-I do you want too?" He asked.

"Sure." She mumbled, running a hand through her hair.

"Then yes." Andy said, nodding to his mom as she left. He sighed, and stood up, angrily. He knew the moment was ruined and he couldn't deny how much he wanted to kiss her.
He looked out the window and didn't turn around until he heard her start playing a song. He stared at her as she began humming.

"Sing." He said, sitting in his computer chair and facing her.

"What?" She asked.

"Whatever you were about to sing." She chuckled and put his guitar down.

"Maybe another time." She said. "The song isn't finished anyway."

"Well I want to be the first one to hear it when your done." He smiled, reaching out and brushing her hair back.

She chuckled, "Okay." He frowned as he felt his phone started to vibrate. It was Kaya and he sighed as he answered it.

"Hello?" He said.

"Hey Andy! I was wondering if you were doing anything?" She asked and he bit his lip. It would crush her if she found out what he was doing.

"Uhm, actually I'm staying in tonight. Why?" He said, glancing up at Mae.

"Because I wanted to go out with you. Maybe..as a date." She said and he cursed under his breath. He knew this was going to happen and he was postive Mae wouldn't want Kaya to know they were together.

"My parents don't want me to go out tonight, you know, it's getting kind of late." He said, feeling seriously awful.

"Oh-uh okay. Another time?" She asked.

"I'll try." He mumbled. "Later Kaya." He hung up and looked at Mae. She looked uncomfortable.

"That was Kaya?" She asked.

"Yeah." He nodded. She sighed and stood up. His window had a perfect view of her house and her room, which was something she'd keep in mind while changing.

"You know, Andy.." She shook her head. "We probably shouldn't be doing this. Whatever it is, it's not fair to Kaya."

"But.." He stood up and walked over to her. His face was so sad as he took her hand. "But Mae
I like you." She closed her eyes and ripped her hand away.

"We can't." She said as he moved in closer to her. His eyes were pleading and his hand came up to rest on her cheek.

"Let me kiss you." He said. "Then tell me how you feel." She didn't protest as his lips came closer and closer to her's. Their noses bumped so he turned his head to the side. His lips barely brushed her's and he felt a shock. Her hand curled around his wrist that held her face in place as he kissed her with full force. His tongue explored her mouth as she stood frozen in her spot.

Everything about the kiss felt right. His body fit against her's so perfectly and she felt everything- her sadness about Eran, her worry for Kaya, everything melt away.

He tugged on her bottom lip softly before pulling away and resting his forehead against her's. He chuckled softly as she reached up to peck him once more.

"I could do that all day." He smiled and she giggled, making him swoon. "Your beautiful."

"Why me?" She whispered. "I'm nothing like you. Your friends will probably make fun of you for being with me."

"Honestly, Mae, I couldn't give a shit what anyone had to say right now." He shook his head. "I just want you. I haven't wanted anyone since Scout left me and I want you."

"Andy, we'd have to keep it a secret for a little while. Just until Kaya forgets about you, because she will." She said as he pulled her to his bed. He laid down and took her hand as she sat next to him.

"Okay." He nodded. "I like you." He giggled, before reaching up and touching her mouth. "And your lips."

"I like you too." She laughed, which he took as a notion to pull her so she was laying on him.
His arm wrapped around her neck and his lips rested on her forehead. "Look." Andy nodded to Crow and Frida. They were curled up against each other similar to that of Mae and him.
She laughed, "I guess I should just move in, huh?" He giggled and kissed her cheek.

"They seem to like each other.." Andy bit his lip ring.

"Mhm." Mae mumbled, playing with the hem of Andy's maroon shirt.

"Andy, Mae! Dinner is ready, or should I say it's here!" Amy yelled up at the teenagers. They sprung up out of bed and Andy grabbed her so she faced him. He pressed his lips to hers and she giggled, before pushing him away.

They walked downstairs, Andy's hand was tight around Mae's and she felt a little nervous with his parents but she trusted Andy. "Is it pizza!?" Andy exclaimed.

"It is.." Amy laughed at her son. She glanced at her husband before smirking at the teenagers laced hands. Andy hadn't brought a girl home since Scout and Amy was happy that Mae seemed so sweet.

Andy pulled her to his couch and they sat down as his parents did. A family dinner at the Biersack's was never a very organized thing. Usually just pizza and watching the Bengals game on TV.

"Oh come on! I swear the ref's hate this team!" Chris yelled, taking a sip of his beer.

"I'm telling you, it's not the refs! The Bengals defense is the worst this year!" Andy shook his head, grabbing a slice of pizza for himself and then one for Mae. "Want something to drink?" He asked her, standing up and walking to the kitchen.

"Water is good." She smiled. Andy got two bottles and leaned over the couch, quickly kissing Mae on the cheek and then sitting down.

"So you two are dating now?" Amy grinned at her son.

"I-"

"Yep." Andy cut her off, slipping his arm over her shoulder. "We're just not telling anyone because of her sister."

"Oh, does your sister have a crush on Andy?" Amy asked, smirking.

"She asked me on a date." Andy groaned, reaching for another piece of pizza already while Mae was only half way through her first.

"Ah..." Amy mused. "Well I already like you Mae. Tell us about yourself!"

"Ah okay.." She chuckled. "I'm Mae Lily Wingfield. I'm seventeen years old, I moved to
Cincinnati a few days ago from Richmond, Virginia. That's pretty much it, I guess." Amy grinned at her and then at Andy. She was quiet, and way different from Scout but she knew this was who Andy needed. Someone to keep him grounded.

"You should invite your parents over sometime." She suggested. "We'd love to welcome them to Cincinnati."

Mae smiled, "I'm sure they'd love that."

"But your sister wouldn't.." Andy sighed.

"Actually, she probably would." Mae laughed.

"Not if your the one I'm holding hands with." He winked, laying his head on her shoulder. Mae had quickly realized that Andy was a touchy dude and since her last boyfriend never wanted to be seen with her, it was a nice change.

The only thing she couldn't get out of her mind was Jacob. Did he like her too? Was she really starting drama with so many people?

"Well.." Mae shook her head.

The night went on with the Biersack's getting to know Mae a lot more. After they ate, they finished watching the Bengals game. After that, they sat around the kitchen table, sharing stories of Andy's youth making Mae burst from laughter.

"When Andy was little all he wanted was to be a rockstar. He would build little sets for Kiss and he always watched this little special on VHS called X-treme close up. Every Christmas morning." Chris smiled as Andy laughed.

"I was so rock and roll back then." He said, shaking his head. "Mae was a hipster."

"That's not true." She protested.

"Then what were and or are you?" He chuckled.

She thought for a moment, taking a sip of the coffee Amy had made her. "A hippie."
Andy laughed before throwing up the peace sign as she stuck her tongue out. "I think I should change into a hippie. That way your people will accept me."

She giggled, "Maybe I should be the one changing. I think your friends are going to hate me once they find out."

"Well Andrew if you ever hurt this young lady because of your friends I think your mother and I will kill you." Chris laughed.

"Trust me, I'm not letting my friends get in the way of us." Andy promised, his arm sliding around Mae's shoulders. She looked up at him, happiness in her eyes.

Andy couldn't help but think she looked adorable in her leggings and sweater. She was nothing he ever thought he would date. He thought he would date someone like Kaya. Someone who could go to concerts with him and listen to music but no. His heart picked Mae, and it happened to be the hardest relationship he would ever have to deal with.
