Andy POV


Three white rose petals, one mint leaf, a special red root from the middle of the forest, a drop of Mayell’s blood, and holy water. That was what we had to give Kenna to drink every day. She would come in and out of consciousness. For the most part she was asleep. I still stayed by her side. Holding her hand, brushing her hair out of her face when a coughing fit had become too violent.

For the most part she was free of the poison. But she needed to become pure again. Her soul was not intact, and her brain was very damaged. Mayell also stayed to see if she was going to be alright. In all honesty I would dare say she had a thing for Jinxx. After all the fighting they did a bond had grown between them. A bond Jinxx still did not see.

“Andy?” I heard a faint voice.

I shot my head up from my hands and smiled. “Hi.” I chuckled, this was the first time she was this conscious in a week.

She brought her hand to her mouth and coughed. I helped her sit up slightly. “What happened?” She asked, her voice still hoarse.

I had let go of her hand by now and placed my hands in my lap. “A necromancer poisoned you, but we were able to make you better.” My smiled had faded.

She looked around the room and then looked to me. “You look like hell.” She blinked, looking over my chest and then back to my face. “You stayed here?”

I assumed she was asking if I had stayed by her side the whole time. “You were unconscious for a week.”

“That’s not what I asked.” She cleared her throat and tried to sit herself up.

I helped. I cocked my head once I had sat back down, looking away from her. I nodded, “who else was going to make sure you were comfortable.”

She reached her hand over and laid it on mine, “you didn’t have to do that.” It looked like she wanted to smile, but she didn’t.

“I owe it to you.”

Mayell walked in and clapped her hands together letting out a high pitched ‘hello.’ “I see you’re awake.” She walked over to the side I was not on, and laid the back of her hand on Kenna’s forehead. Kenna backed away from Mayell and toward me. “I was the one who saved you honey.” Mayell kept her hand in midair. “I just want to check to see if you have a fever.”

“You don’t looked like a doctor.” Kenna said still leaning toward me.

Mayell laughed, “that’s because I’m a witch.”

Kenna leaned toward me more. I feared she would fall into my lap if she leaned over more. “She’s fine.” I whispered holding Kenna’s shoulder, trying to push her back onto the bed.

She glanced to me. Then she looked to Mayell. “You’re safe sweetie.” She still had her hand out, waiting to touch Kenna. Kenna slowly straightened on the bed and let Mayell take her temperature. “Hmm…” She sighed, she took her hand away and picked up a glass bottle on the night stand. “A little warm, but that’s fine.” Mayell gave a big smile handing the bottle to Kenna. “Drink up.” She dropped her smile a little bit.

“What is it?” Kenna asked taking the bottle from Mayell.

Both of us chuckled. “Just drink it.” I said. “You don’t really want to know.”

She looked to me worried but drank it anyway. She scrunched her nose and spit a little of it up. She handed it back to Mayell and wiped her lips.

“Nasty stuff huh? That’s the red root there.” Mayell said sealing the bottle and placing it back on the night stand. “Could you give us a moment, Andy?” She folded her hands together.

Kenna looked to me worried, grasping my hand tight. I squeezed her back reassuringly. “I’ll be right back.” I smoothed her hair and stood to leave the room.


Kenna POV


I didn’t care if Andy was the person who captured me and took my life away. I trusted him more than I trusted this woman. She had several scars under her eyes. I didn’t like the vibe that that gave off. She sighed and sat on the edge of my bed after Andy had closed the door behind him.

I gulped, she looked to me with dark brown eyes. “The ritual I did to get rid of the poison will sometimes allow me to look into the others soul and what I saw…” She placed a hand gently on mine. “Andy is not someone you want to get involved with. He may look handsome and sweet now, but he has a dark side no one can fix.”

I was still more confused on the whole ‘soul looking’ thing than what she said about Andy. “Why does that matter?”

“You may not know it but your soul does.” She patted my hand. “You poor girl.”

I just wanted the confusion to end. Her smile had fallen to a frown. I looked at her face, I gave her a look of confusion. “Thank you for helping me.” Was all I wanted to say really.

She gave me a fake smile. “When the snow comes around again in a year you will be too late. If you want the man you see you need to tell him how your soul feels.” This lady was crazy. I didn’t smile, but she did. She stood up finally. “I guess I’ll be going then.”

I nodded my head to her as she left the room, leaving the door open.


Jinxx POV


Mayell trotted down the stair case with her bag on her shoulder and her coat around one arm. “Does Kenna know what Andy is?” She asked while we walked out to the carriage.

I looked back to her, tying up the horses properly. “What?”

“They love each other, or he loves her rather. He doesn’t want to but he can’t help it. Her mother brought her here you know?” She stood outside of the carriage to talk to me.

I sighed and faced her. “One, you’re insane, Mayell. And two, the minute she finds out who Andy is, is the day she runs and never looks back.”

“You want her to love him? You want him to be human?” She asked.

As much as I despised Andy for taking the leading role I did feel sorry for him. “I would like my old friend back.”

Mayell smiled. She patted my shoulder. “Keep his beast away from her then.”
