An Angel and a Demon

I found myself in the central courtyard. A few students were walking between buildings, or sitting together in the center. I heard someone behind me and whirled around to see Carolyn behind me.

“Hey, come on. I’ll introduce you to some people!” she said as she took my arm.

NO NO NO NO, LET GO! She held onto my arm all the way up to her friends.

“Guys, this is Valery Dirkson.”

“Umm…I go by Elvira,” I said shyly.

The group was comprised of three girls and one guy. I didn’t pay much attention to the girls because they all looked like the girls I see at fashion shows I get dragged to. However, the boy with sandy blonde hair was relatively attractive. He had a nice smile.

“Wait a second,” one of the girls said. Her mouth turned into a smirk, “You’re that governor’s kid who went AWOL. Did your parents send you here instead of rehab? I hope they checked your bags because this is a drug free campus.”

The other girls and the boy snickered at me.

I rolled my eyes and turned on my heel, ignoring Carolyn calling my name behind me. Fuck them. Fuck all of them and their perfect lives. Fuck them all. I stormed around the corner of the building and collapsed onto the ground as soon as I got around it. I dropped my back into the wall and sunk down to my butt, pulling in my knees and covering my head with my hands.

“Bad day?” a deep voice said.

My gaze shot up to see a tall, slender figure with jet black hair. A stream of smoke escaped from his lips. A hand moved to his face to brush back his hair, revealing a pair of crystal blue eyes framed by long black lashes. I wiped the tears forming under my eyes away. He squatted down and sat beside me.

“Yeah, you could say that,” I laughed. I looked over at his angelic face, “Um, could I…” I asked with a motion of my hand toward his cigarette.

He chuckled and pulled a pack out of his pants pocket. He handed me a cigarette, which I graciously put to my lips. He held out a lighter to the tip and I inhaled deeply. Thank God. I savored it for a moment before blowing out a long stream.

“You’re the first person I’ve met who smokes here too,” he laughed. “Just cigarettes?”

“Hell no,” I said as I exhaled another stream. “I’ve done so much. Pot, LSD, shrooms, X. Never anything worse than that, just the party stuff.”

“You drink too,” it wasn't really a question.

I looked over at him, “What about you?”

He thought for a second, “Coke, and everything you've done. I can’t take weed for some reason though, I get sick every time. I drink like a sailor though.”

“What’s your poison?” I asked.

“Whiskey. You?”

I smiled, “Vodka. So what put you here in hell?”

“Parents. They wanted to shape me up in the hopes I do something better with my life. They've got a hold on all of my inheritance and money in the bank until I graduate.”

“What year are you?”

“Sophomore. You?”

“Freshman,” I grumbled. “I got sent here too by my parents. I’m a shame to them and a disgrace.”

He looked directly in my eyes, “Well that’s a damn shame. I don’t see how you could be.”

I smiled at him, “You don’t know me.”

He smirked back at me, “But I want to.”

“You just met me,” I mused. “We are total strangers.”

“We don’t have to be. Everyone needs an ally in hell.”

“Alright,” I said holding out a hand, “Allies. What’s your name?”

He reached out a shook my hand, “I’m Andy. Andy Sixx.”

“Is that a Motley Crue reference or your real name?”

“That’s my last name,” he laughed. “And your name?”

“Elvira Dirkson.”

“Well Elvira,” he said as he stood up, “I’ll see you around.”

I nodded in reply, “Thanks for the light.”

He smiled and walked off.

Good God that boy is gorgeous.
