Forever Us

“Hey, Sky!” He wiggled his eyebrows at me. I couldn’t help but crack a small giggle.

“Is this the Andy you were talking about?” I heard Aaron say from behind me.

I looked and Aaron was holding onto the back of my leg, but his eyes were glued on Andy’s, both of their icy blue eyes meeting for the very first time. Andy’s jaw dropped, touching the ground, then he squatted down slowly to be at eye height with Aaron and smiled, then held out his hand.

“Hey, buddy. I’m Andy, you must be Aaron.” He said calmly, but biting his lip as a nervous tick.

“Hey.” Aaron repeated and put his small hand in Andy’s, not shaking it, but just resting.

“You’re a very handsome man, Aaron.” Andy smiled.

“Thanks, you are too.” He shook Andy’s hand finally.

“Why don’t you come in?” I broke.

“Yeah, sure.” Andy smiled, standing up and smiling at me, then walking in, standing awkwardly in the middle of the front room.
“Wow.” Aaron remarked.

“Yes?” Andy asked.

“You can sit down.” I said softly and he sat.

“You’re really tall, dude.” Aaron said.

“Thanks, you’re getting quite tall yourself, young man.” Andy laughed.

“Great.” He said and jumped onto the couch next to Andy.

“Want a drink?” I asked in general, walking into the kitchen.

“A beer?” Andy asked innocently.

“Sure.” I said and opened the fridge.

“Yeah, same here.” Aaron said then burped.

“Aaron! No!” I gasped, quietly laughing.

I looked and saw Andy bite his lip, trying to prevent the giggles from escaping his mouth. I grabbed two beers, one for me, one for Andy. I handed one to him, then sat down on the other couch and watched as Andy and Aaron watched cartoons for the next hour and a half. I slowly started to close my eyes, not realizing it, but soon I was fast asleep.

I woke up with a loud gasp, another nightmare. The same one as usual.

“Are you okay?!” Andy said, standing up quickly.

“Yeah, yeah… I’m fine…” I said and motioned for him to sit back down.

I looked over and Aaron was fast asleep on the couch, he was obviously before laying down on Andy, the thought of that made me smile for some reason.

“What happened?” Andy asked, concern in his voice.

“Nothing, I just had a bad dream…” I said, looking down.

“Oh, okay.” he said, sighing in relief.

“Hey,” I stood up. “how was Aaron? Sorry, I just kinda passed out.

“Oh, he was fine. He fell asleep almost as soon as you did. But I learned something…” He said, his face suddenly looking serious.

Oh shit…

“What is it?” I asked, I was getting nervous now.

“I learned how to say red in Spanish. Thanks, Dora.” he laughed.

“Oh.” I said, nervously laughing.

“Sky, now that he’s asleep…” he started.

“Yeah?” I said, but I knew what was coming next.

“He’s five, right?” he asked.

“Yeah…” I dragged out.

“H-How-… Can I ask you something, please?” he had need buried in his eyes for an answer.

“Shoot…” I said reluctantly.

“Why uhm… Why’d you leave, Sky?” He asked and bit his lip once again.
