Devils Daughters
The Aftermath of A Stupid Decision
"Where are we going?" I asked Andy once we were down the hall. We didn't want to be around the guys or the guards right now. I knew he was feeling the same as I was.
"IHOP," he more said than suggested, so I shrugged and followed him.
It was after two, so we couldn't get anything to drink. It's just as well though, we needed to clear our heads and figure out the next step. We drove silently up the street to the twenty-four hour restaurant and were seated almost as soon as we arrived in a corner booth we requested so we wouldn't risk anyone seeing or over-hearing us.
"What should we do?" I asked after a few minutes of silence.
Andy stared at his soda he had in front of him, intently watching the bubbles.
"I don't know. On the one hand, they blew up a building and lied to us. On the other hand...I've sort of fallen for her," a look of frustration and confusion swept across his face.
I let out a sigh, "I know. That's what makes it so difficult."
We sat there thinking again.
"Well...they may have lied, but they are definitely creative," Andy let out a small laugh at my statement, nodding in agreement. "And they have been pretty honest about everything else," I continued.
"At least they didn't shoot at us," he added.
"True," I played with the food that sat in front of me. I don't even know what or why I ordered. I'm not even hungry.
"What was that other chick doing there, though? That's what I still don't understand," Andy wondered aloud.
"One problem at a time, man," I replied, not wanting to even think about her. She was a crazy bitch and a total mistake. And that's something I don't say that often.
"Right. I don't want them to go to jail," Andy's words were stressed with his thoughts.
We both had a million of them clouding our heads, but neither of us could seem to form words or a plan of action. Clearly those girls are not the only ones bordering insanity.
We were both broken out of our minds when Andy's phone rang.
"Jake," he said afer looking at the screen, then answered.
"Hey Jake, what's up?...we went to get food...yeah we're fine...no...what?!" His sudden panic had my full attention and my stomach immediately went into knots. "Okay....no..okay we are on our way," and with that he hung up.
I had already pulled out my wallet and thrown down more than enough cash for the food and tip and I followed Andy to the car. Once we were inside the vehicle he started talking.
"The cops just came and took Ali and Jesse. I have no idea why, they wouldn't tell Jake anything. The security guards won't let them leave or tell them what's going on," he spoke quickly.
The situation made us realize what we wanted to do without a doubt, to say the least. Unfortunately, though, what we want may not matter.
