Our faith will silence the doubt

Kaili laughed as Valentin started to chase her down the street. He was about to catch here when she jumped onto a small wall. Valentin froze and looked at her. “Wow. That’s was awesome! Are you an athlete?” Kaili shook her head, “No. At least I don’t think I am.” Valentin looked at her confused. “What do you mean?” “I have, I guess you can call it long time memory loss.” “I don’t think that-“ “I don’t know if it’s a real disease either, but I got something like that. I can’t remember anything from my childhood. I have a hard time remembering what I did a while ago.” Valentin frowned, “That’s weird.” They walked to Koishikawa Botanical Garden . “Yeah, but it’s okay I’m taking medicine for it.” “How long?” “I can’t remember. I think half a year.” “And it hasn’t helped?” “I don’t think so.” Valentin stopped at the entrance and looked at her. “Do you know what the name of what you’re taking is?” “Not really. I haven’t really seen the bottle or anything, the school nurse usually brings it to me every month.” “Just the pill.” Kaili nodded. They walked into the garden and walked close to each other. “It must be hard…” “What do you mean?” “It must be hard not remember your childhood, all those happy memories, the sad memories, who your friends were.” “Well, I guess it’s not so bad, because I don’t remember anything, not even their faces, and I don’t dream about anyone I don’t know. “ “Still.” The silence went on for about ten minutes. That was something Kaili hated, so she decided to end the silence. “Want to play twenty questions?” “Sure.” Kaili thought as they walked onto the bridge. “What’s your favorite color?” “Red.” The questions went on and on as they walked aimlessly through the garden.
“What would you name your daughter?” Valentin thought for a moment then smiled, “Zoey.” Kaili grabbed her head, movies Friday… sneaking out… Valentin grabbed Kaili as she fell. “Are you okay?” Kaili nodded, “Yeah I just got a head ache, a big one.” Valentin frowned , “That’s odd. Can you walk?” “I think so.” Kaili started to walk but fell. Valentin picked her up bridal style, “We’re going home.” “Ugh…” “No buts, you didn’t really eat well, so you must need some protein or something.” “You’ve been watching me.” “Well, you were spacing out a lot…” Kaili chuckled, “I guess I was.” “One more question.” Valentin walked silently waiting. “Do you have a girlfriend?” Valentin smirked, “Why are you interested?” Kaili rolled her eyes, “Are you going to answer or not?” “I don’t have a girlfriend, but I do have a girl I like.” “What’s her name?” “Her name is Elizabeth. I know a common name for a European girl. But she’s great. She’s been my friend since elementary.” “Aw that’s so cute!” Valentin shrugged. “Are you planning on asking her out?” Valentin frowned, “Well she’s not really rich…” Kaili nodded, “got it, parents won’t approve right?” “That’s not-” “Yeah those snobby rich jerks that our parents work with.” “I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable, or for them to do something to her. I wouldn’t be able to stand it.” Kaili thought for a few minutes, “Well you have to fight for what you want right? You don’t have to care what others say. With our parents in this business it’s like knives and pens.” Valentin walked into the building, “Isn’t that a song?” “I’m not sure.”
Kaili was about to open the door when Mrs. Pennington and the Sumpter´s walked out. “Look they’re practicing already!” Kaili and Valentin looked at their parents confused. Mrs. Sumpter shifted uncomfortably. “What’s going on?” Mrs. Pennington grinned, “Congratulations you two.” “Mom?” Kaili looked at her mom frowning. “You and Valentin are getting married!” “What!?” Mr. Sumpter smiled, “Yes we’ve already talked about this and we’ve arranged for you two to be married on October.” “Mom, you can’t do this.” Valentin nodded and looked at his parents. “This isn’t the 60’s you can’t do this.” “We’re both legal adults now. You can’t make us.” Mrs. Pennington stared at her daughter. “Of course I can make you Kaili.” “No, I’ll leave.” “And how do you plan on surviving?” “I’ll look for a job.” “Not if I can help it.” Kaili stared at her mom, “You won’t-” “But I will. If you don’t agree to marry Valentin I swear that I will move all my influences so that you never get a job in your life and without a job you’ll be nothing.” Valentin looked at his parents and he saw that his parents were clearly in the same plan. “So that’s your plan; marriage or never having a job in our lives?” “Basically ruin our lives.” “Do you know how great it would be for our family if you two married each other? We’d have more power because once you two get married our business will unit and we’ll be one of the greatest industries in the world.” Kaili asked Valentin to put her down. She walked towards her mom, “That’s all you’ve ever cared about, right? Money, power, you’ve never cared about me.” “You made me that way and you know it.” “What are you talking about?” “Of course you don’t remember, but I do. You made one of the worst mistakes in your life and that changed everything. To pay for what you’ve done you’re going to marry Valentin and be happy about it.” Kaili couldn’t believe this! She wanted to find someone she really loved, Valentin was a great guy, but he wasn’t the love of her life.
