An Angels Last Fall

I stared at my desk, focusing everything I had onto lighting the little candle on the edge. Everything I would use to keep a fire from roaring out of control was being reversed. I had done it before to save a life once. It was so easy then. But with what little essence I have left it was taking all of my strength to light a candle. I was certain that I would have fallen with no essence left. But that car stopped like it was a toy. I had to light this candle. My heart was racing. My limbs were going limp and numb. When The candle did nothing I raised a hand and brought it down on the desk hard making everything on it jump up and move or fall down.

I had never let my anger get the best of me. I had always been able to control it. Raphael once told me that my anger could drag me to hell. I believed him but yet here I was. Angry at a candle.

I fell to my knees and rested my hands in my lap. I whispered a prayer to help me with my anger. I expected an answer like always. But silence filled the room. I took a deep breath and went into the kitchen to get some water. I got a cup out of the cupboard and filled it with water from the sink. I started to drink it when Juliet’s phone started buzzing on the counter. I looked around to see where Juliet was. I was going to pick it up and answer it for her.

I set the cup down and picked her phone up to see a familiar name. “Juliet?" I called out.

“What?” She yelled back from the other end of the house.

“Who is Jiel?” I knew who he was.

Juliet came running through the hall and grabbed her phone ending the call. “My…” she put her phone in her pocket lifting up her shoulders. “Brother. He owes me money and he’s a lady’s man so stay away.” She wiggled a finger at my face and walked back into the hall.

The Jiel I remember was cast out of Heaven only months after I was made. He was sent to work with the Devil. After he had betrayed his creator. How could Juliet know him? I looked at the hall Juliet disappeared into and wondered if I ran into her on mistake the day I fell. There has to be other people on this planet that are named Jiel. It was just coisidence…right?
