Remembering Yesterday

The song ended and the guys looked up as they heard a girl’s chuckle. “Wow, I cannot believe I just saw my sweet boyfriend doing the hoedown throw down.” Juliet Simms walked out of the shadows laughing. Andy’s cheeks turned a light shade of pink. “What are you doing here?” She shrugged, “CC said you were here. I have a concert here tomorrow and I figured I’d come surprise you. But I think I’m the surprised one here.” Zoey looked at Juliet Simms and saw the way she looked at Andy. Zoey couldn’t help but feel jealous. She shook her head trying to shake the thought away. How could you be jealous? You barely even know Andy. Yet, as she looked at Andy she felt she had known him all her life. Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone ringing, she didn’t even pay attention to the ringtone, or the caller ID . “Hello,” she answered in monotone. “Where are you at, missy!?” She felt the blood draining from her face. “Mom,” she managed to choke out. James ‘eyes went wide and he told everyone to quiet down. “I’m at the barbecue at school.” “Don’t fucking lie to me Zoey Parker. I happen to have gone to your school after the game and you were nowhere in sight! Do you know what time it is?” Zoey looked at James and pointed at her wrist. James took his phone out, but her mom answered her own question before James could. “It’s twelve thirty at night!” Zoey felt her heart drop to the floor. How could she have not paid attention to the time? “I’m not even going to try and guess where you’re at right now. You went to the concert without my permission and not only that, you’re out at early hours of the morning!” “Mom, please.” “No, you listen to me Zoey. Your father and I have given you everything! Do you hear me!? And you go off and disobey us!” “I wouldn’t have had to do it if you would have just let me go to the concert!” “Don’t give me that! I didn’t let you go because those boys, the way they dress. It’s obviously a bad influence!” “You think everything is a bad influence! But oh no, your friends and their sons and daughters aren’t a bad influence at all. Why do I have to like your friends, and there stupid jokes, but you can’t like my mine?” “Those boys, or whatever they are, are not your friends! They’re just some druggies who play stupid music!” “Don’t say that about them, you don’t know them at all! They happen to be very down to earth guys. They’re just like you and me.” ”Don’t you dare compare them to us!” Zoey opened her mouth to say something but her mom interrupted. “I want you home now.” “I don’t want to-” “I want you home in twenty minutes or I’m calling the cops and reporting those, whatever they are! I’m going to say that they kidnapped you.” “You wouldn’t dare, and you have no proof!” “I don’t need any. You know I have influences don’t you dare try to challenge me Zoey Parker, because you will not win.” “You can’t do this to me!” “Twenty minutes.” With that her mom hung up the phone.


James wrapped his arms around Zoey. She pushed him away in frustration. “She can’t do this to me!” Ashley held Zoey and looked at her, “what happened, who was that?” “My mom.” Jinxx laughed, “Ah an angry parent, what a surprise.” Jake smiled, “Let me guess, she wants you home, or you’ll be grounded for life.” “No, you guys don’t know my mom. She threatened to call the police and say you guys kidnapped me.” CC stared at Zoey, “She has no proof; she can’t do that!” “I know!” Zoey wiped her tears away shivering with anger. James rubber her shoulder and looked at the guys. “Zoey’s parents work for a big company and they have a lot of influences, so she can do that.” Jinxx frowned, “Sorry about this Zo, but you’re mom’s a total bitch.” Zoey choked out through tears. “I know. We have to go. It was great meeting you guys.” Jake grabbed Zoey and hugged her, “We’ll miss you too. You’re a great kid, considering you’re a cheerleader.” Zoey laughed and looked at him, “Was that supposed to be a compliment?” Jinxx took her away from Jake and hugged her. “What he means is, that you’re not one of those snobby cheerleaders we used to go to high school with.” Zoey wiped her tears away hugging him back. “Of course not, not all cheerleaders are like that; besides you guys are great, there’s no reason why I should be like that with you guys.” Ashley picked her up pulling her into a tight hug. “Don’t forget us Zo.” “Of course not.” “Write our numbers down.” Zoey handed her phone to Jinxx and she smiled at CC. He smirked and opened his arm for a welcoming hug. “Come here shorty.” He hugged her rubbing her back. “I’m not that short.” He chuckled, “I know.” James exchanged numbers as he said his goodbyes and Zoey hugged John, “You’re a cool manager, don’t change.” He laughed, “Thanks. You’re a good kid, keep up the good work.” “Thanks.”
