Remembering Yesterday

Dreaming about a dream?

Zoey looked around not sure of where she was. She looked at a small girl who came running out of a house. The house was beautiful two stories, it appeared small, yet she knew that the interior was huge. Zoey blinked confused, how did she know that? She looked around and saw that the neighborhood was full of fancy cars. Zoey turned her attention back to the girl and smiled. Kathie, she was a nice kid.

Kathie looked at the ant walking on the edge of her front porch. She reached her index finger towards it wanting to feel its skin. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Those are poisonous ants.” Kathie looked up and grinned. “Denny!” The boy frowned. “Don’t call me that.” Kathie stood up and swirled ignoring her best friend completely. “Looky Denny, I gots a new dress, isn’t it pretty?” Dennis stepped back admiring his friend, she had on a white dress with flowers of all colors. “Yes you look very pretty.” “Tank you.” “It’s thank you.” Kathie shrugged once again and grabbed his hand as she skipped into her house. “Come, come, it’s time to watch Barney!” She stumbled back as Dennis stayed in place. He caught her and laughed, “Silly girly.” She looked at him confused, “what wrong?” “Don’t you member? I start first grade today.” Kathie frowned and looked at her dirty white princess heels. “Ohs..I forgotted.” Dennis patted her head and smiled, “I come back as soon as I come home, okay?” Kathie nodded and kept looking at her shoes. “I’ll draw you a picture.“ Kathie looked up and her eyes lightened up, “Otays!”

Kathie sat in front of the TV and let out a soft sigh. Not even Dragon Tales could make her happy. She felt empty without Dennis sitting next to her. “Kathie, sweetie, don’t sit too close to the TV.” Kathie continued to look at the TV not seeming to have heard her mother. She wondered what Dennis was doing at this very second. Would he have new friends to play with? Kathie was happy, but she was also sad. If Denny had more friends that would mean he would spend less time with her. She let out another sigh and looked at the clock for what seemed to be the billionth time. “Kathie, move away from the TV, you’re sitting to close.” Kathie rolled her eyes and crawled to the couch sitting in front of it. “Good girl. Now come on, you have to get ready, remember we’re going out soon.” Kathie shook her head and crossed her small arms over her chest. “Me no wanna!” Kathie’s mom let out a soft sigh and walked towards her. “Come on sweetie, Daddy will be here soon.” Kathie’s eyes lit up as she got a great idea. “Can Denny come too!?” Kathie’s mom frowned and shook her head, “I’m afraid not sweetie, he has to go to school.” Kathie stared at the TV once again and shook her head, “Me no wanna goes.”

Kathie screamed and kicked as her mom picked her up. “Kathie, that’s enough! Denny can’t go with us everywhere we go. You have to make new friends!” “No, no, no! Denny, mine, he can’t have fwends! No!” Kathie’s mom set her on the bathroom counter and started to undress her. “Ok, ok. Well how about this: you take a bath and let me dress you in your prettiest clothes, that way when Denny gets home he can see that you’re all pretty. Then I’ll talk to his parents and invite them to the party. How about that, do you like that idea?” Kathie grinned and nodded, “Otays!”

Kathie opened the screen door as she saw Denny jump out of his mom’s car. “Denny, you home!!” Dennis smiled and hugged Kathie, “I missed you, princess!” “Princess missed Denny!” Kathie took Dennis’ hand and they walked inside.

Zoey smiled and watched Kathie run into her house. It wasn’t the first time Zoey met Kathie. It all started about a month ago, Zoey was dreaming of nothing in particular. She walked through a door and then, suddenly, she was there, in front of Kathie’s house. Zoey still wasn’t sure who Kathie was; perhaps a figure of her imagination? Kathie reminded her of someone, but she didn’t know who. She had beautiful golden locks, and her eyes were an amazing blue, like a mixture of the oceans waves and the clouds on a sunny day. She was caucasian nothing out of the ordinary. She looked a lot like her mother. Then there was Dennis, Kathie’s best friend. He had the same beautiful golden locks and the same amazing blue eyes. They could have passed as brother and sister, the only difference was that he was paler than Kathie.

Dennis was Kathie’s warrior, protecting her from spiders, mean kids, and from anyone and anything that tried to hurt her. They would hold hands and say that they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Zoey had laughed the day they had announced their relationship. Of course they didn’t have the slightest clue what a boyfriend or a girlfriend was, but there parents had been happy. Zoey heard them talking about how great it would be if there kids ended up together. Zoey hoped so too. They made a great couple.

Zoey looked up startled as she heard Kathie scream. She ran inside and stopped dead on her tracks as she saw…Zoey shook her head. No...It couldn’t be. Zoey watched as her mom took Kathie away from Dennis’ firm hug. “No, you no take her!” Zoey’s mom laughed and walked out the door with Kathie in her arms.
