Bullets in a Music Box

Barcelona, Spain

There was a flurry of activity surrounding me. People were running around, getting the room ready for the interview. A recording label in Barcelona decided they wanted to talk to me and my band, which for some reason they think we are a full band. I was sitting on top of a box with one foot dangling off and the other was pulled up my my chest. I was scrolling through my phone at twitter, smiling at all the nice things people were saying when someone wrapped their arm around me and almost knocked me off the box.

"What the fuck?!" I exclaimed and gripped the person tightly. When they laughed I knew exactly who it was.

"You're face was hilarious," Jackson said and I smacked his arm.

"You don't do that shit when I'm not paying attention. If you haven't noticed, I am small and very movable," I said. He chuckled and sat down next to me.

"So is Andy in meetings again?" He asked.

"No, but they have their own radio interview then they have a photo shoot or something like that," I said.

"Don't you get annoyed at that?" He asked.

"At what?" I asked.

"Andy always being preoccupied with something else to spend time with you," he said.

"No, I understand what he has to go through. If you remember, I was a crew member person on the other legs of the tour, I know all the shit they do. This time, I just have a few things to do myself," I said.

"Like get your name out there?" He asked.

"Exactly," I said. Jackson looked down at his hands and cleared his throat before talking again.

"What do you think about then calling us a band?" He asked. I shrugged.

"I was annoyed at first, but now I couldn't care less," I said. He nodded and looked at his phone.

"Dude, I think we should consider that," he said.

"Consider what?" I asked, what the hell is he implying?

"Being a band. We all work great together, and on stage, you act like we are a band instead of it being your show," he said,

"That's because I'm a nice person," I said.

"Just think about it, I can talk to the other two and we can have a meeting or some shit to give our answers," he said.

"Fine, but don't be surprised when they say no," I said. He rolled his eyes and then someone walked over by us.

"We are ready for you Sadee," the lady said and she had a mic in her hand. I grabbed it and walked over to the chairs. I sat down and looked at the CEO of the label. She looked fierce. Her hair was pulled back into this tight bun and she had dark red lipstick on.

"Hello," she said with a surprisingly good American accent. I smiled at her and crossed my legs at the knees.

"Hi," I smiled.

"Thank you for talking to us today," she said. I nodded and held the mic in my hand.

"It's no problem," I smiled and she nodded before looking at her note card.

"Our first question has to do with your fame, or rise to fame," she said. I nodded and she cleared her throat.

"Do you attribute your fame with being the daughter of Lori Ann Christian?" She asked. Of course my mother is being asked about.

"Um, well, at first maybe. But now I have clearly shown that I have my own view and plan for my 'fame' as you call it. I write all my own songs and being on tour with Black Veil Brides is extremely exciting. But no, I don't think I do attribute my mom to my fame, or the other way around, she just kinda was there and, yeah," I chuckled and she nodded.

"So you're saying that you attribute your fame to your own self?" She asked.

"Exactly. I have worked hard over the last year on songs, music, and the decision to become my own artist. My mother had nothing to do with it," I said.

"You are signed with Universal Republic Records in Los Angeles, CA, were you signed because your brother owns the label? Or because of your talent?" She asked. Wow, these are hard hitting questions.

"Well, I like to think it was because of my talent. I was technically signed to the label before my brother became owner. My contract was originally to be a lyricist, but it was changed to being a recording artist," I said.

"So, your brother had nothing to do with you being signed?" She asked.

"Not that I am aware of. When I got signed to be a lyricist, I didn't even know I had a brother, so," I answered and she nodded.

"Are you working on an album?"

"I do have a few songs, and I am definitely writing more, but as of the moment, no I'm not working on an album. But I will hopefully be releasing an EP at the end of the year," I smiled and she nodded. What is up with these questions? I glanced to the side and saw my band standing there, all of them having the same expression.

"It says here that you are in a relationship with the lead singer of Black Veil Brides, Andy Biersack. Did he have anything to do with your rise to fame?" She asked me and looked me in the eye.

"Well yeah. Um, when I was hired at the label I was hired to help him write songs for a side project, and he was the one who got me to record my song The Day You Left and he is also the one who made me consider being an artist, so yeah, I do think he helped me," I answered.

"Now, you are known around the world as the daughter of Lori Ann Christian, or at least online you are. And a lot of articles are criticizing you because you chose a different genre of music from your mother. Has it been difficult to get a footing in the rock and alternative genre?"

"Oh God yes. I think it's not necessarily that my mom is who she is, but more because I'm from Tennessee, I'm a southern girl. Not many artists who come from Tennessee, or any southern state in the US, go for rock music. But I think I'm doing okay with it," I said.

"Where do you get your inspiration for songs?"

"I usually take my personal experiences and write about it," I said.

"Okay, we are going to call out the rest of your band out here," she said and motioned for the other three to walk out. Zara sat down on one of my sides, Callum on the other and Jackson next to Zara.

"Welcome. These next few questions are for all of you. When did you all meet?" She asked.

"We actually met only three or so weeks ago in the studio in LA," Zara said.

"Really? You all seem to work so well together," the lady seemed surprised.

"We just clicked I guess. Sadee is a cool chick to work with and I've worked with the other two for a year or so, but only as a touring band," Zara said.

"Oh, so you aren't a full band?" She asked.

"No, Sadee is the singer and we are her touring band," Callum said. I looked at Jackson and he bit his lip.

"You guys are seriously close than, because we all thought you were a band," the lady chuckled and I smiled.

"Like Zara said, we clicked. We all have similar personalities, we love music and we all live on the same bus, so we have to get along," I laughed and the others did as well.

"You all share a bus with Black Veil Brides, right?"

"Correct," I said.

"How is that?"

"Well, I'm used to sharing a bus with them, but I think the other three here are all good," I said.

"I love touring with them on the same bus. I've grown close to them over the last week," Zara said.

"It's kinda weird, cause there are like seven or eight guys on the bus with two girls, but I'm getting used to it," Jackson said.

"I'm fine with it. I spend most of my time in my bunk on Skype with my wife and daughter so I don't really pay attention to the others," Callum said.

"You're married?"

"I am," Callum said proudly. I tapped his knee a few times and smiled.

"Let me tell you, his wife is extremely attractive," I laughed and the lady smiled.

"How come she didn't come on tour?"

"No room. And I didn't want to bring my three year old daughter onto a bus for that long, so Lucy decided to stay home," he said.

"Okay for these next questions, you name the member of either Black Veil Brides or one of you who you would choose," she said.

"Okay?" I chuckled nervously. She smiled and flipped the notecard.

"Who would you go out on the night drinking with?"

"Either Andy or Jackson," I said.

"CC and Ashley," Zara said.

"Andy and Ashley," Jackson said. I dropped my jaw at him and he laughed.

"Um, Jake and Jinxx, cause you all give them no love," Callum laughed.

"Who would you go to if you were having relationship problems?"

"Um, CC or Ashley," I said.

"Jackson or Zara," Callum said. "Or Sadee actually."

"I'm not in a relationship at the moment, but I would go to Jake," Zara said.

"Sadee," Jackson said. I smiled and did a happy dance.

"Last one, who would you take with you on a vacation, and you can only choose one," she asked us.

"Andy most definitely," I said.

"CC," Zara said.

"She has a thing for him," I smiled and she smacked me.

"Andy," Callum said.

"Sadee," Jackson said. I looked at him.

"I hope you know we would do nothing but swim," I said. He shrugged and laughed.

"Who would you say are your greatest musical influences?" The lady asked.

"I think mine would be Fall Out Boy or Panic! At the Disco," I said.

"I take a lot of influence from Jimmy Sullivan. He was a legend at drums," Zara said and I nodded to her.

"Going with the whole Avenged Sevenfold vibe, I take the whole band really, but Synyster Gates, or even his dad Brian Haner Sr., is really the one who I take influence from.

"Any bassist really," Jackson said.

"You are so boring, damn," I said.

"Imagine you’re watching a concert and one of the band members spontaneously combusts. You get called to the stage to replace that band member. Who’s the band?"

"Mine would probably be Black Veil Brides, since we're on tour. And I would replace Andy," I said.

"Dude, Falling in Reverse and I would replace Seaman!" Zara exclaimed and I rolled my eyes.

"I don't really go to concerts so," Jackson said.

"I would probably be watching All Time Low and I'd replace Jack," Callum said.

"Good answers guys. One more question before we have to wrap it up. If you had to give up music – what would you do to be creative?" The lady asked.

"I would probably write something. I'm a good writer so," I said.

"To be creative? Um, maybe paint," Zara said.

"Arts and crafts with my daughter," Callum said. I laughed and he smiled.

"I have no idea," Jackson said.

"Man, you are boring today," I said. He shrugged and the lady smiled at us.

"Thank you all for being here. Look for this interview in our next volume of the magazine," the lady said and I looked at her.

"What magazine?" I asked.

"We work with Kerrang," she said. I nodded and walked away from her.

"That was kind of fun," Zara said.

"It was. Now, sound check then concert!" I exclaimed and we all ran through the hallway and outside. I love this band. And maybe Jackson is onto something, we would make a good band.

Notes

I wanted to do something other than a show or meet and greet. I hope you liked it. And yes, if you caught it, I am hinting at something. Not gonna tell you what the hint is, but yeah. Next chapter will be a signing and the meeting with Sadee and her peeps. We go to Moscow next!!!!!

Question Time: What do you think Sadee does? I wanna know if you guys can guess it. Do you think I should make them all a band? Cause I'm considering it. They just work so well together! And, should I do more interviews like this one? Oh and, can you all give me more examples besides Kerrang for places to print the interviews? I would love you forever!
